I have had my braces on for over 10 months now, the approximate time quoted was 8 months so I'm feelin disheartened at the moment as I hoped to be brace free for Christmas! I have found the procedure relatively pain free, just a little uncomfertable. . I'm due to visit my dentist tomorrow so I will update my post shortly.

I am amazed they were able to take your case for fastbraces.  It looks like you started with a class III malocclusion as well as severe crowding and crossbite.  The improvement that you have had thus far is truly stunning, and I don't think you should feel discouraged.  I've never seen such an amazing result from fastbraces with a case like yours.  In any other type of braces, you would have had a treatment longer than 8 months as well.

Is the price you paid in dollars or GBP?  Because that's an amazing price for the work you're getting done if it's in dollars.  Actually, it would be in GBP as well.  I really am completely stunned.  Are you going to a cosmetic dentist or a regular dentist?

Thank you for your wonderful comments, sometimes I forget how they were in the first place. The price is GBP, I paid for a root canal, bone implant for future i plant and a couple of fillings etc so I have spent quite a lot overall at the dentist this year! I have used a NHS dentist all my life and at 51 I went to the private dentist to enquire about an implant as my dentist had given me an awful false tooth. I filled in a questionnaire at the dentist, in which I stated I was self conscious about my teeth. He asked if I had thought of Invisalign, I thought I was too old for any treatment but we submitted my case to Invisalign. They said I would need trays for at least two years and it would still be difficult to turn some teeth, the dentist then suggested the brace and I thought why not? so this is the result. Dr Powell runs a regular local dental surgery - I have felt confident in his hands and your comments confirm this.

I'm glad the dentist didn't let you keep thinking you were too old for treatment.  You're never too old!  We have community members in Invisalign in their late 60s.  Getting your teeth straight improves your overall quality of life, because you chew better, and you can clean them better and take care of them better.  So happy for you, and I sure do hope that you'll continue to update us on your treatment.  The reviews for fastbraces are quite mixed, so it's good to see what the differences are between a treatment that works and one that doesn't.

Thanks again, and I wish you a Happy New Year!

I don't know what Fastbraces are. I am a little older with traditional braces. I was quoted 18 months. You don't want to move teeth too fast or you may have problems. Hang in there. Time is going to go by anyway and you are well on your way to a beautiful and confident smile. Good luck!!

Fastbraces are a brand of braces with a differently-shaped attachment to the tooth.  If you look carefully at Budefraser's pictures above, you can see that the attachments are triangular in shape, instead of more square like with regular braces.  The triangular shape is supposed to be able to force the entire tooth to move at once, including the root, instead of just dragging the crown of the tooth in place and waiting for the root to follow or addressing it in a second step.  So the speed of the treatment is supposed to be from moving the root right away, not from moving it extra-quickly. :)

Wow! Definitely so worth it. Your smile looks great! What are fast braces?

Did you have an underbite?

Fastbraces are a trade name which. Are supposed to work faster than traditional metal braces. Not sur if I had underbite, just very crowded teeth!

Did you have to extract some teeth?

A band has now been fitted to my top teeth for the next four weeks.

It's a little hard to see past the band, but it looks like you've already had amazing progress!  What is the band going to do?  Also, with your teeth so straight now, it becomes obvious that you've had some uneven wear on your central incisors.  Are you considering any remedies for that?

I'm not sure really, I'm just taking one step at a time now. I do think that there is more work in store for me! The area where I was supposed to have my implant has now closed in so that will also need discussion as Mr Powell says it is now too small for implant. This is going to be a long journey I think!

As far as I know, this is not at all what fastbraces are used for, LOL!  I am just fascinated by your case.  I've seen others who are creating spaces for implants, but, once again, never with fastbraces.  Was that something that you discussed with the doctor beforehand?  I mean, making space for an implant?  Since your teeth were so crowded to start, do you still feel like you need the implant?  Will your midline be off without it?

I think I have confused things! The original reason I went to the dentist was for an implant. Then we discussed the braces, so the implant was put off until the braces were finished. The braces are only on the front six teeth and the dentist says they are not the reason for the space shrinking behind them. I am pleased I won't need the implant now. Hopefully!

OHHHH!  LOL!  Sorry--I'm pretty jet-lagged.  I probably just misunderstood you.  Does he know what's causing the shrinking?

He said he didn't think it was connected to the brace, he will probably have a good look at the photos before my next appointment. Hope you get over you jet lag soon!

Hi, I too am pretty amazed how much your teeth have improved in such a small amount of time. I had braces put on in June 2012. My top teeth weren't that bad, it was my bottom teeth that were very crooked and overcrowded. I still have the braces on!!!! It is my 50th birthday in June, and I am desperate for them to be straight and brace free. People ask me if its been worth it? I withhold my response until I see the end result. I know they look better than they did, but almost 3 years is a long time... I have had some painful days and even weeks. I think I will be pleased with the end result.. I had better be anyway.

I never thought my bottom teeth could move so much! I thought my top teeth were a 'little' crowded! And they have been the slowest to move. At first the dentist could only fit the attachments on about 4 of my teeth. Have you payed pictures on here? I have found reading about everyone's journeys really helpful. Some comments have made me feel vein - like oh I couldn't be bothered at you age!, but on here people seem to understand. Like the community manager says on here .. Age shouldn't be a barrier. I hope you reach your goal of having your braces off for your 50th, please keep in touch

I am also amazed by your good results! Congats, I think your teeth looks amazingly good, especially considering what they looked like before...
March 26, 2015
Wow congratulations! Your beautiful teeth! I have my teeth underbite like as same as yours...I wonder where your dr place I can find it? Thank you thumb up

March 27, 2015
Yay! I can't wait until I am. Oath said my teeth are moving like a 14 year olds so I am happy and hopefully won't be in them as long as he expected.

That's good news, I was disappointed not to have mine removed for Christmas, but the extra couple of months have been worthwhile. It's amazing the amount of people who said they never noticed I wore braces (including my brother) especially when I felt so self conscious of them. Keep showing your progress on here, seeing other reviews really helped me persevere.

Wow, fantastic! And such fast results (really, for the amount of crowding you had, 13 months is FAST!) Congratulations :). Are you still having trouble removing your retainers? Usually it gets easier once you've broken them in, so about a week :D.
User Avatar
March 28, 2015
Yes your right, they are much easier after a week thanks. I'm determined not to let my teeth slip back!
User Avatar

Whew! Glad to hear they've loosened up for you. Don't forget to replace your retainers regularly, as they get too loose!

March 29, 2015
Thanks, my next appointment is not scheduled until September, do you think that would be a good time to renew?
User Avatar
March 29, 2015
My doctor always said two-six years per retainer, depending on a lot of factors. You can ask in September how long they estimate the life of your retainer to be. Essix retainers are pretty strong :).

Thanks everyone. I'm getting used to my retainers now and they are much easier to remove after a weeks practice. A little bonjela has eased my sore gums! I'm enjoying eating the foods that used to get caught in my braces!
