Insurance Mess

WORTH IT$9,000
Understand that even though you are given a quote... it’s incomplete. This was never explained to me by the staff but shame on me for not reading what I signed. When my first bill for $700 came in I was angry but decided to take it on the chin as a lesson learned for not being a responsible consumer. When the $9,000 EOB’s came in the nightmare began. Understand that it’s your responsibility to call the anesthesiologist with the procedure codes and get a quote from them. Then, you need to call your medical insurance company and find out what is covered, your deductible, and if this particular doctor is in network. I specifically asked the staff if my medical insurance covered my procedure and I was assured it was. This was a half truth because although HIS office was in my network...the anesthesiologist HE chose was not at the time. This is why I started receiving outrageous claims with me liable. It took days of phone calls back and forth to his office, my insurance company, and the anesthesiologist to untangle this web. Why on earth would you place all of this work and stress on your patient who is paying a premium for your services? His office washes their hands of it. I had to speak to several people at the anesthesiologist’s office to get them to fight my insurance company. Unbeknownst to his staff there is a legal loop hole that requires insurance companies to treat out of network doctors as “in network” when the patient has no choice in selecting him or her. So, because he chose the anesthesiologist and not me things change in my favor. That said, I am still liable for my deductible and this entire thing is still being fought. In total it’s about $1,400 over the original “quote”. I’ve had two other plastic surgeries and never had to do any of this and my other quote with a different surgeon had everything included.

Overall I’m healing very nicely. My nose is still swollen, spongy and numb on the tip. I’m very happy with my side profile and a lot of the bulk is gone! I’m looking forward to seeing more definition on the tip as I continue to heal!

Hello ! You look really beautiful! I was wondering what made you tag the operation as “ not sure “ ( worth it ). Can you let me know why you are not feeling it is worth it?
Thank you !

Thank you :) I put “not sure” when I had my cast on but now that I can see the result it was definitely worth it!

Ah ok! Great! I looked at this Doctor website and indeed he is VERY talented. I think he kept the uniqueness of your face and nose and your personality. It is incredible how it “opens” your face and makes it appear even younger. Best wishes!

Cast removal
kbee88May 21, 2019
I just received my anesthesia bill for $700 if you need a general idea of cost. I had my cast taken off, packing removed, and front stitches taken out. He placed tape on my nose that I have to leave on for a week. I could breath really well right afterwards and can finally sleep at night. Im very swollen but I can already tell my hump is gone and tip doesn’t hang down :)

I've recieved a friend's recommendation for this Dr., too and am researching. I have to get a septoplasty and I want the hump and bulbous tip gone, too. Would you feel comfortable sharing the cost (or a range, thereof)? I'm going to start scheduling consultations and will go see him because yours looks great! I appreciate the brutal photos, too. haha! It was an honest review and prepares others. Thanks!

Hi :) the cost was somewhere around $8,700 for him and I believe an additional $700 for anesthesia. My insurance did cover part of my surgery so these numbers are after that coverage.

Correction: I just received a $9,000 EOB from my insurance company denying the anesthesia charge for the medical part of the procedure (turbinate reduction and intranasal lesion) I was not aware that I had to do all the leg work to get a quote myself from a separate company (although it’s my fault for not reading this section at the bottom of the quote). I made serval phone calls back and forth and basically I have to sit around and wait to see what happens while the anesthesiologist resubmits my bill. I’ve lost sleep over this and canceled my families summer vacation until it’s sorted out.

Oh, my gosh - I just saw this...I had notifications turned off and after Covid I'm ready to start this journey. Did you get this sorted? Was the $9,000 all you had to pay out of pocket?
