I had an old root-canal tooth (left upper bicuspid) flare up in May for the second time in a year. It had always felt strange, slightly tender. My NHS dentist had previously recommended another root resection to clear up the infection & I had a consultation with a periodontist who said he could carry out the procedure but the risk of the root cracking was about 40% & the cost would be in the region of £800. This seemed too risky to me. I'd also read that root canalled teeth never actually heal; the infection lies dormant and can cause other health issues. It would need to come out eventually. When the tooth flared up again & was utter agony for a few days with a big abcess and required two different antibiotics to get under control, I asked (begged) my dentist to extract the tooth. Instant relief!
This left a gap but at that point I was just delighted to have no more pain & a restored feeling of well-being.
I researched dental implants as a bridge didn't interest me. My four upper front teeth are crowned so I'd like to preserve the upper left cuspid. A London dentist quoted me £3k for an all-ceramic implant & crown. Another implant centre quoted £2k for a titanium implant with a porcelain and metal bonded crown. Both seemed very expensive and for aesthetic reasons I only want an all-ceramic crown.
Research led me to consider travelling abroad & Budapest has a good reputation for high-quality dentistry. I arranged a consultation with Vitaleurope in London & was impressed with the dentist, customer service & the price.
For a top range Nobel Bio Replace implant, surgery etc. and Procera crown I was quoted in the region of £1800. Flights to Budapest are about £50, expenses there are minimal.
I flew on Monday 16th, had my surgery at 9am on the 17th & flew back to London on the 18th following a check-up.
The clinic is modern, welcoming, the staff are genial. I had local anaesthetic & the procedure was over in about 90 mins following a scale and polish with a hygienist. My little farewell pack contained antibiotics, icepack, painkillers, soft toothbrush & mouthwash. Once the local wore off it was very painful but the painkillers worked a treat & as of today the pain is minimal.
I have an appointment here next week to remove the stitches & will update then.
So far so good!

I'm very curious to know how you do as time passes. I've recently had trouble with a tooth and may need an implant.
Please keep us posted!
Absolutely! This site really helped me when I began researching implants. I'll continue to post. If you have any questions just let me know.

Thanks for sharing your story with this community. I hope you'll keep us posted on your progress.

Thank you! I definitely will. I know dental implants are a long process so I'll update when necessary up until the crown is fitted in 20 weeks.
