No I was never going to age, I wanted it done now and nothing you could say to me would change my mind.
Plastic surgeons say you need to be the "right candidate" for buccal fat removal, but what I KNOW is no one is a good candidate. They say Asians are usually good candidates... NOPE! Your fat is in your cheeks for a reason. When you age and your upper cheeks lose fat and your skin and body say okay now your lower cheeks will be relied upon to keep you looking young. Your genes depend on fat being in your cheeks. If you have cheek fat, you are blessed by the youth gods. Removing the fat will make you more insecure down the road. Fat is liquid gold in the face.
I am half asian. I got buccal fat removal 7 years ago (I was 21). I had chipmunk cheeks and when I smiled my face looked big, shiny and bright. I looked 15 years old. I wanted a more relaxed looking face, to look older, and to look thinner. I was not over weight, but I wasn't in the best shape either. After getting my fat pads removed I'll say for 5 years I never thought twice about it. I really loved the results. I did look thinner, older, and the shape was nice. When you are young, you never believe you'll grow old or what you will look like when you are old.
I looked great until 28. That's the magic number. OVERNIGHT, something changed and I didn't know what. I saw what I'd look like when i was old, I looked old. My fat was flat, my cheeks were hallow and not in a supermodel way, and my face looked gaunt. I developed nasal fold lines and I felt so ugly. I just looked like I was angry.
I went back to my original plastic surgeon not even thinking it was my cheeks, I thought maybe it was my skin and lips that changed. They did change with age, but my lips looked different because my upper cheek fat was gone and I had no lower (buccal) fat to hold my lips wider. I just looked like I was starting to prune.
I put cotton balls in my mouth where my buccal fat used to be and instantly I looked 21 again. My nasal fold lines were gone and my cheeks looked youthful. Asians aren't supposed to age! I aged myself.
I PROMISE YOU WILL REGRET REMOVING YOUR BUCCAL FAT. It will cost you more money and insecurity down the road. EMBRACE your cheek fat. You will age, your skin will change, and you will thank this review years from now when you realize you're still youthful because of your cheek fat.
Since I have had to get fat injections. It's thousands of dollars and there is no guarantee the fat will stay. If only I just loved my face when i was 21.

Thank you for this. I'm 23 and was seriously thinking about this procedure. I've heard other's thoughts about this procedure and have largely ignored it because it was hard for me to grasp that I will get older (and will lose the face fat). I really appreciate the insight and wish you all the best.

I'm Latina, i had buccal get removal myself months ago, it's something i absolutely regret. My doctor actually took out more on one side than the other, i hate it. How many times have you received fat injections? Do you like the results?

Wow thank you so much for this post. I was seriously considering getting this procedure done and I am 25 years old. My mother has been saying the same thing. That I will regret it down the line and a fat face is a youthful face. I should start listening to the woman more often! I'm sorry you have to deal with and wish you the best!
I'm 23, Caucasian, and I absolutely HATE my buccal fat :( I don't want to touch my checks though... Would you say just getting the buccal fat removed would end in the same result of looking way older when I age? I would also really like liposuction or something to help slim my jaw line. I only weigh 120lbs at 5'6, but it's a hereditary thing on my mothers AND fathers side with the double chin. It's not awful but definitely makes me self conscious to turn my head and look over my shoulder because my "jawline" disappears -_-
