Terrible Experience!
On July 2019, I had a buccal fat removal procedure. Doctor Madnani saw me a couple of times before the procedure and stated that I was a good candidate for the procedure.
The procedure was supposed to last no more than 15 mins and all he had to was make a small incision and remove the fat from each cheek. Post procedure the doctor was not able to find any fat on the left cheek and ended up doing a second incision on the same cheek in an attempt to extract some fat. However he could not find any fat after all. He told me that it was strange, but not to worry because he could fix the symmetry on my face after seeing the final result. When I got home I had massive swelling on the left cheek, this lasted for several weeks but the doctor reassured me that everything was normal and that I just had to wait. I was very scared because I had developed a hematoma and it had to be drained a few times. As the swelling very slowly started to decrease a sudden “salty discharge” started to flow out from my left cheek. At a certain point I was not able to move my lip, which everything more frightening. Dr. Madnani insisted that everything was normal and that everything will get better with time. I decided to give it some time and wait until November, at that time I contacted the doctor again to let him know that I had an over production of a “salty discharge”. The swelling was not any better and now I had a mass inside the left cheek which was constantly rubbing against my teeth and was extremely bothersome. I also told him that I did not feel well aesthetically, and that this was not the result I was expecting. Additionally I let Dr. Madnani know that I was going to see a specialist because I was afraid any permanent damage, which might have gone unaddressed. I paid a visit to Dr. Madnani and he recommended me to a SALIVA GLAND SPECIALIST, and because I wasn’t happy with the results he gave me a full refund.
I went to see the specialist, whom turned out to be an ENT and was prescribed some antibiotics and some massages as treatment. There were no results from this treatment and I was told that I needed to see a different kind of specialist because he couldn’t do much more to help. The ENT states that time might heal the damage without any intervention. On September 2020, after waiting some time as recommended by all the doctors I looked up and booked a new ENT. I was told that the damage is very difficult to locate and even more difficult to see. This new ENT concluded that this situation was a very unfortunate outcome from the procedure and that my only option was to learn to live with it. This was heartbreaking to hear as I never expected this to happen or to become so complicated, I was always aware of the “minimal complications” as per Dr. Madanani and knew that all these procedures have risks but I feel that Dr. Madnani didn’t do much to help other than offering to refund the cost of the procedure.
I am not happy with the result. As time has passed the left cheek remains the same, has no noticeable improvements and it still has fat. It is obvious that Dr. Madnani caused permanent damage in my saliva ducts when he performed the second incision. The “salty discharge” is the result of saliva is coming out more frequently from the damaged ducts. On the other hand the right cheek is showing the results that I expected. However now my face is out of symmetry, I once again contacted Dr. Madnani and expressed to him my concerns. He asked for photos and promised to help with this issue, I sent him the photos but never heard back from him.
I am no longer expecting to hear from Dr. Madnani, which I think is for the best. I would no longer put myself on this doctor's hands. In the meantime I have been getting plasma treatments to help with the symmetry.
