Near death experience due to the doctor's negligence
ORIGINAL POST
Near Death Experience from Dr. A.J. Amadi Negligence
sprince202May 31, 2023
I selected Dr. Ahmadi toperform a browlift after interviewing 6 surgeons. I had many red flags with the office not scheduling appts, sending documents etc., but the worst was that on the day of surgery, I was released to my 73 yo husbands care, non-abulatory. Within hours my eyes were in excruciating pain, I could not open nor close them. My husband gave me a hydrocodone as perscribed and called Dr. Ahmadi. He perscribed eyedrops and my husband left to get the perscription filled. I got up to use the bathroom, passed out and struck my head on the corner of the dresser, and knocked myself out.My husband came home to me facedown in a pool of blood. He calls Dr. Ahmadi, who ASKED HIM IF HE THOUGHT I COULD "WAIT UNTIL MORNING" to be seen. He was hesitant. Dr. Ahmadi told him to put me in the car and drive me to Harborview - a 40 min drive - my husband was able to get me in the car, and Ahmadi called back to tell him that maybe he should drive me to Evergreen Hospital 3 miles away; which he did. When I arrived at Evergreen triage, I coded and chest compression were begun. Eventually I was transfered via ambulance to Harborview. ER doctors in both facilities told my husband that Xanax and Hydrocodone (prescribed by Ahmadi) should NEVER be used together.
My house looks like a murder scene with blood drenching the carpet, sofa, pillows etc., On my first aftercare appt, Dr. Ahmadi told us he would refund the cost of the browlift and pay the additional costs for 3 days in the hospital, cleaning the carpet etc., Today I had a second follow up appt and he told me that he reviewed his notes about the procedure, and he "did everything by the book" and would not be refunding any money etc.
I have a large "Harry Potter" scar down my forehead as a result of the fall, a concussion and irregular heart rate, as my blood volumne is low. There are no words to describe for me what a horrific experience this has been, the long term conscequences of his negligence and dishonesty.

Absolutely Horrible Experience - I Ended Up in a Level 1 Trauma Center from His Negligence
sprince202July 23, 2024
Absolutely horrible - He perscribed two countraindicated medications that resulted in my passing out. I fell and hit my head. My husband found me unconscious on the floor and he was unabe to rouse me. He phoned Dr Amani who asked him to "prop me up against the bed and take a photo" (see below) He then asked my 74 yo husband if he thought the "bleeding had stopped" and if I "could wait until morning to be seen." He had no idea why I was unconscious at that time, and did not suggest calling 911. Instead he asked my husband to drive to a hospital 40 min away. My husband instead drove me to the closest one. During triage, by heart stopped and I had chest compressions. I was later transfered to a Level 1 trauma center. The blood loss lead to cardiac issues...I continue to receive treatment for concussion related issues. Originally Dr. Amani took responsibility and agreed to return payment for my surgery and to compensate for having to recarpet the blood soaked room. He contacted me later to tell me he changed his mind. He gave his nurse the day off when my stitches were to be removed, and actually brought his 4 year old son to my appointment.

We always recommend that patients provide us with feedback, good or bad, so as to improve patient experience, so I appreciate that you have taken the time to share yours.
I take patient satisfaction very seriously, so it saddens me to see this post about medical care received at our practice. However, I strongly disagree with the characterization of my medical care, and with the comments attributed to me. For reasons of HIPAA Patient Privacy, I cannot and will not get into the specific details of your care. However, I do need to make one specific correction so that the readers of this online forum are not misinformed: Benzodiazepine anti-anxiety medications, such as Xanax, are routinely used to help alleviate anxiety and allow patients to get restful sleep in the perioperative setting, with specific instructions to be used at bedtime (QHS) WHEN NEEDED (PRN) as seen in the photo of the pill bottle you posted. As such, they are prescribed to patients at their Preoperative appointment along with their postoperative pain medications.
I was, and still am, sympathetic that you sustained a fall and injury in your home in the early evening hours after your morning surgery. However, after reviewing our medical records, as well as the records of the surgery center, Emergency Room, and post-surgical care at the hospital, we concluded that all the care provided to you was appropriate, and within the standard of care. Thus, the expectation that a surgeon should pay a patient money for events that were NOT a consequence of his/her care is NOT reasonable.
In conclusion, I am always happy to discuss patients’ concerns about the medical care they receive, and I encourage all of my patients to contact me anytime with any concerns as they all have my personal cell phone number. I will be happy to discuss this with you further, off line, at your convenience.
Sincerely,
A.J. Amadi, MD, FACS ”
Some patients are unaware of these options.
I was really annoyed after having day surgery with general anaesthetic, that the surgeon would only release me into the care of a competent carer after surgery. Hospital wasn’t an option. But thank god he did. I couldn’t even stand upright or carry my bag. No way could I have caught a taxi on my own.
I understand your reasoning but some sympathy and a degree of aftercare would be nice.
