18 Years Old, Insecure, and Was Never Able to Get Braces

So I'm 18 years old, in college, have a boyfriend, all of that... but I'm still very very insecure about my smile. I have a gap, overbite, and a crooked top front tooth, and I've been fussing over it ever since I realized that wasn't the "norm". When all of my friends got braces, my parents couldn't afford it, but now that I've found SDC I figure "why not give it a shot"?

I had my 3D scan appointment today at their Brooklyn, NY SmileShop. The technician was very nice, though the office seemed a little strange (no one there was an actual dentist, it was located in a swanky gentrified business complex where there are like twenty businesses shoved together with all hipster workers). My boyfriend and I were sort of offput by the location, but everything was very professional. I was also surprised by them asking for my credit card information and how I wanted to pay upfront (and on a sheet of paper) with the promise that I'd only be charged after I was approved and my plan was created, but we'll see how it goes. My dad was very surprised for the request of his credit card number by phone, haha.

The technician was fairly certain I'd be approved since it's not A LOT of work I need to get done (her words; I'd disagree) but I'm hopeful! She said I'd find out in 1-10 business days, so I'll update once I find out!

I'm a little late in updating but I received my approval and treatment plan the day after I went in for the 3D scan even though they said that it would take anywhere from 1-10 business days! Very fast! Also, the final result of my treatment plan looks amazing! They straighten out my teeth a lot, fix most of the jaw misalignment, and close the gap, among other things! They're fixing things that I didn't even know existed! The 3D scan also showed me just how bad my teeth really are from all angles (even the back) so I'm really glad I'm doing this.

They said my aligner sets should be here in like four weeks, but I've seen other people say that they often arrive in two. I don't really mind, but it'd be really cool if they came early! I'm going to need 19 aligners, and it's going to take 38 weeks (or 9.5 months). My boyfriend's very jealous because his braces took four years, haha.

So I am currently live chatting with a representative asking about my treatment plan, and she messaged me about "my orthodontist" so I just thought it would be alright to ask who my orthodontist was, seeing as they were overseeing things going on in my mouth. I received the response "Benjamin Burris," who I proceeded to look up because I wanted to know his credentials. I find out he gave up his orthodontic license after an 18-month court case with the dental association. I don't feel comfortable knowing that SmileDirectClub has paired me with a not-orthodontist regarding orthodontics. This is fairly unnerving. The representative, Olga, is "getting me information from her supervisors" but hasn't found out anything in about 20 minutes, so she has taken down my email address and said she will email me once she finds out information regarding the situation. However, I doubt she will. But we'll see.
