18 Years Old, Insecure, and Was Never Able to Get Braces

Received my first box of aligners today!!

aoifebennett
WORTH IT$1,799
I was sent an email that they were shipped on Tuesday, the 13th, and they arrived today (the 15th... I'm writing this after midnight). I now have my first two months of aligners, but unfortunately I have to wait to start using them, as I've been told that I may need to get my wisdom teeth out and SDC told me that I should get that done first in case my teeth move once the wisdom teeth are gone. While it sucks that I have to wait when the aligners are tempting me, I'd much rather get this done first than get them out afterwards and have all of my newly straightened teeth move into another misaligned position. It's for the best! I'm going to another dentist on Saturday, hopefully, to get a second opinion on whether or not I need to get them removed.

Fortunately, SDC told me that they won't halt my shipments so if I can start later I'll still be receiving them. And if I start up again and can't fit into my aligners because my teeth shifted with my removal, they told me that I'd get another 3D scan and a new plan/set of aligners at no charge to me. Thank God! So I don't think I have anything to worry about. It's very comforting.

Are you thinking to not use SDC because you are unhappy with the ortho they paired you with?
June 19, 2017
A couple of days ago I spoke with a representative who called back in response to the online chat, and even though they gave me a non-answer and were very vague, I looked at the Facebook support group and apparently many other people using SDC have spoken to him and talk about him so I don't think he's sketchy, I just don't know why they'd label him as an ortho when technically he no longer is. I will still be using SDC -- at least I will when I get my wisdom teeth out! I've seen some concerns about receding gumlines and exposed roots, though, which slightly worries me.

Problematic Update???

aoifebennett
So I am currently live chatting with a representative asking about my treatment plan, and she messaged me about "my orthodontist" so I just thought it would be alright to ask who my orthodontist was, seeing as they were overseeing things going on in my mouth. I received the response "Benjamin Burris," who I proceeded to look up because I wanted to know his credentials. I find out he gave up his orthodontic license after an 18-month court case with the dental association. I don't feel comfortable knowing that SmileDirectClub has paired me with a not-orthodontist regarding orthodontics. This is fairly unnerving. The representative, Olga, is "getting me information from her supervisors" but hasn't found out anything in about 20 minutes, so she has taken down my email address and said she will email me once she finds out information regarding the situation. However, I doubt she will. But we'll see.

Got my treatment plan!!

aoifebennett
I'm a little late in updating but I received my approval and treatment plan the day after I went in for the 3D scan even though they said that it would take anywhere from 1-10 business days! Very fast! Also, the final result of my treatment plan looks amazing! They straighten out my teeth a lot, fix most of the jaw misalignment, and close the gap, among other things! They're fixing things that I didn't even know existed! The 3D scan also showed me just how bad my teeth really are from all angles (even the back) so I'm really glad I'm doing this.

They said my aligner sets should be here in like four weeks, but I've seen other people say that they often arrive in two. I don't really mind, but it'd be really cool if they came early! I'm going to need 19 aligners, and it's going to take 38 weeks (or 9.5 months). My boyfriend's very jealous because his braces took four years, haha.

Excited!!!
