Start of week 3

As I am changing aligners weekly I will try to take progress pictures and update every 2 weeks, but this post was a little delayed due to the holiday! These pictures were taken after tray 2 just before starting aligner 3/week 3 of treatment. The first week was tough.. I was sore from the propel and aligners for about 5 days taking Tylenol around the clock. I had a check up a week after starting to make sure everything healed okay. I honestly now feel no real discomfort even with changing aligners. They feel tight when they first go on, but in a good way.. and I put them in before bed and by morning I feel good. I've noticed some slight movement with the top front tooth, and the bottom front teeth.
My only concern at this point is the little black triangles starting to form between my bottom front teeth. I can't remember if these were in my clincheck or not but after some research I'm wondering if my tooth shape will make the black triangles unavoidable. I did have IPR mentioned at a previous consultation, so I will be sure to ask my provider at my next apt if that will be something that can be done to correct this or if it will resolve on its own. I will also ask to view my clincheck again.

I am scheduled to go back on January 8th and will update then!

My propel experience

The day I was scheduled to get my first set of aligners I also received my propel treatment. I took 1 gram of Tylenol before leaving the house to help with any discomfort. While I think the treatment was worth it to cut my treatment time in half I can't say that I would go through it again if I had to as my experience was not the most pleasant.
The staff was great at preparing me and talking me through everything. To start I rinsed with chlorhexidine for one minute. Next came the numbing gel which involved the dental assitant coving gauze with a blue bubblegum flavored gel and placed it firmly along my upper and lower gums. She warned me that some people get a headache from this or nauseas but that it would pass shortly after. She also warned me not to swallow at all. The gauze stayed in place for about 3-4 minutes and I felt fine through that time. As she was removing the gauze I started to feel some chest pressure and tightness. As a nurse I was starting to wonder if it was an allergic reaction but assured myself it wasn't my airway. Then all of a sudden my head felt like it was going to explode. This was a million times worse then any headache I've ever experienced. My head was pounding, heart racing, I was diphoretic, my chest hurt and I felt like I was having palpitations. I honestly think this is the worst I have ever felt in my entire life. They helped by placing a cold wet cloth on my forehead but it took probably 10-15 minutes for the feeling to pass. After that no headache no chest pain just a little nauseas.
Then we started the actual propel.. The drilling into my gums. This part was fine, I did not feel much except for the last couple holes on the bottom hurt a bit but was tolerable. After they placed gauze to control the bleeding, and then I rinsed again with the chlorhexidine. This stung a bit with the new holes in my mouth. This rinse also seemed to have left my mouth very raw, almost as if I had burned it everywhere with skin peeling off.

The procedure itself was tolerable and Worth it to shorten my treatment, but the reaction I had to the numbing was so terrible I don't know if I would choose to experince that again. Thankfully I'll only need it the one time during my treatment!!

This was all yeaterday, I took Tylenol every 6 hours and my mouth was pretty sore until I went to bed. today I woke up without any pain at all, but my mouth is still raw overall.

Never had braces growing up always had pretty...

Never had braces growing up always had pretty straight teeth but ever since my wisdom teeth tried to come (but didn't have enough room) all my teeth shifted. My top teeth a still fairly at straight with the exception of the left front tooth being slightly rotated and overlapping the right front tooth. The bottom teeth have some moderate crowding, but this doesn't bother me as much as the top tooth as you can't see my bottom teeth when I smile.

Today I went in and got my propel treatment, which involves numbing the mouth with a topical gel and then drilling a series of small holes into the gums and bone which will allow for quicker movement of the teeth. As a result I get to change my aligner a weekly.
I also had my attachments put on and got my first 6 aligners, although I am scheduled to return next Tuesday for a check up.In total I will have 17 aligners top and 17 on the bottom so treatment will take 17 weeks (4 months).
I'm excited to have finally gotten started and can't wait to see my results! My invisilign treatment costs 3495 and I paid an additional $500 for propel to cut treatment time in half. I will write another post re: my experience with propel treatment.
