Sigh. My surgery didn't quite turn out as planned...

Sigh. My surgery didn't quite turn out as planned and I need a revision on my left nostril. It's very upsetting even looking at these photos and I'd like to have the surgery in August and hopefully be done with this. Any advice would be appreciated, and any recommendations on surgeons in Brisbane Australia or surrounding areas!

Hi there, I am planning on having a revision too. I have researched some surgeons in the Brisbane area but it has been challenging to find ones who specialise in revisions and there's many surgeons who do not have before and after pictures or patient reviews to view online - so booking consultations seems to be the only way to see their work. My advice would be to book a consultation with a Plastic Surgeon (FRACS) who preferably specialises in revisions. Be cautious of ENT Cosmetic surgeons as they do not have the years of experience as Plastic surgeons. In consultations ask to view before and after pictures, even ask if you can contact previous patients for reviews if possible. See a few different surgeons before settling on a decision. Your GP might be able to refer you to a specialist.
I have had one consultation with Dr Raymond Goh in Fortitude Valley. He was easy to talk to and he gave me feedback about my nose. Another surgeon I am yet to see is Dr Paul Belt, also in Fortitude Valley, I cannot give my opinion on him yet but I have been told that he is "good". I hope this helps a bit :-)

Thanks for your advice. I went to a consult with Paul Belt initially but I didn't go with him in the end. Oh dear, could be pretty awkward going to him now to fix someone else's surgery.

Good luck, hope u find a good surgeon. I feel like its so hard finding a good revision surgeon in australia. Most of them are general plastic surgeons who do it all. I am almost 3 years post op and in melb and ive given up on searching for a surgeon here. My initial surgery was with one of the better ones and it came out terrible so i just feel like i have to live like this with my deformed nose. I hope you have better luck than me :)

So sorry that you've had the same experience as me. I'm also 3 years post op living with What I consider a deformed nose. It's better when I don't think about it, but I really think I need this fixed for my self esteem. Now thinking I may need to go to America to have this done right. Have you heard of any good ones there?

I agree. Best to go overseas. Wish I had done this the second, third and fourth time!

I recently had a revision from on of the top specialists in the US. His name is Dr. Andrew Frankel. Be extra careful with revisions---it's a complicated procedure and should only be performed by a specialist. Even going to one of the best revision specialists I still don't have and will never have a perfect nose. Some Drs that I think would be worth looking into in the US would be Dr. Frankel (Bev. Hills), Dr. Kim (San Francisco), and Dr. Grigoryants. Best of luck to you Jane. :)

i agree that it should only be done with a specialist. I would never making the same mistake twice. Frankel, kim, hilinski would be worth going to.

My only advice is - go to the US and get it fixed by a revision specialist. There are no decent revision specialists in Australia.

Yep, that seems to be the consensus. That will make things more expensive and difficult, but I'd really like to get an acceptable result this time around

Having had a primary rhinoplasty and 2 failed revisions in Brisbane I would advise going to the US if possible. That is where I am looking now as don't have any faith in the surgeons here.

I agree. Dr Frankel looks pretty good, but I will have to do a lot more research before deciding on anything

UPDATED FROM Jane Foster

Warwick Nettle?

Jane Foster
Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on Warwick Nettle for revision rhinoplasty? It would be so much easier to have surgery in Australia rather than America.

Hey. Dr Nettle is one of the surgeons that I plan on seeing. He has good patient reviews and before and after pictures of revisions on this website and his own. Hope you can find a surgeon soon :)

You need to see him in person to make up your mind. If u want to go to the UK, Mr Ion is the absolute best. In the US, seems Dr Richard Davis is the one. All the best. x

Howard Webster is highly regarded in Melbourne, Victoria. Free consult if u mention Realself.

Andrew Frankel?

Hi again, I'm leaning towards Dr Frankel in Beverly Hills. I really like his pics- very natural and not too extreme. I hear he's very experienced with revision rhinoplasty. Anyone have any experience with him? I've already scoured the reviews but would love some input. This is such a tough and unsettling decision!!

I have yet to see him, but he is in my top 4 right now as far as virtual research and speaking to/emailing other patients.
Have you emailed him your pictures? I did and his assistant sent me back his assessment.
The problem is, he wouldn't answer any further questions until I came in person. But I live all the way across the country. So that was a little disconcerting. Plus, I've read that even though he does really good work, he doesn't like too many questions (even in person) about procedure from the patient. And he won't give you a game plan of exactly what he's going to do inside your nose as far as grafting and technique.
And I'm not okay with that, personally.
I hope that if I travel there for a consult, he doesn't shut down all my questions. Because that would be a huge wasted effort on my part, to come there and then leave unfulfilled.
It's a shame, because I think his skills and aesthetic is great and looks a lot like my old nose, maybe even better. But I just don't understand how he can just not explain to a revision patient what he plans on doing with their anatomy. (if it's true)

Hi there, just wondering if you ever went through with your Revision? If so, I'd love to hear more.
June 30, 2017
Hi sorry for the delayed reply! I wanted to get a couple of photos together for you. Yes, I ended up going to Dr Frankel about 6 months ago and he's turned my life around! I can smile again and look people in the eye with my new normal looking and symmetrical nose!!! So happy I did the revision. I will have to update this review soon...

Kls I just had a look at your review and I can see you are after nostril symmetry. To be honest mine are not perfect now, but compared to where they were ( significantly significantly worse than yours- will put up photos) they suit me just fine now. So since yours are not so extreme I would expect an even better result from a revision expert x
