At age 45, after 15 years of seeing a cosmetic dermatologist for botox and fillers, my dermatologist mentioned that I might consider seeing a plastic surgeon for more permanent and effective results. I was really surprised at the time - after all, I thought I was "young" . But... my brows and eyelids kept getting droopier, and I was developing jowls. Partly due to genetics maybe, and definitely due to excessive sun damage throughout my life. I waited two years, and when I finally had the time and the budget for it I set out to find the perfect doctor. I wanted to look young again, but I also wanted to look natural. I interviewed 4 plastics surgeons in the Nashville area, and immediately knew that Dr. Michael Boggess would be the perfect doctor for me.
I decided that in addition to a lower facelift I should go ahead and have a brow lift and upper eyelid lift at the same time. After all, if I was going to go "under the knife" I might as well do it all at once. I am so happy I made that decision, and I am SO, SO, SO happy with my results. I look years younger, and it is such a joy to be able to see my eyes and jawline again. The results are very natural but honestly - transformative. I get comments all the time now on how young I look or how lucky I am to have amazing skin. Someone once thought my teenage daughter and I were sisters, and someone else thought that my 30 year-old realtor was my husband. BUT, no one has ever once asked if I have had plastic surgery which is exactly what I wanted - to look young, but in a natural way.
I think the best part of the surgery has been that I really don't worry about how I look anymore. I used to always compensate for looking and feeling "middle-aged" by wearing lots of make-sup (with lengthening mascara to hide my droopy eyelids) and making sure my outfits were pulled-together. Now, I have the confidence I was lacking before and often will head out of the house with just a light dash of foundation. I often don't even wear eye makeup anymore because it is such a pleasure to see my eyes again! So interestingly, after plastic surgery I am much less focused on my appearance now and it has been so freeing.
