I don't usually leave negative reviews, but after everything I've experienced, I feel obligated to share my story so other patients know what they may be walking into.
My consultation took place while the entire building was without power. The appointment felt rushed, and I left without feeling fully educated about the procedures, the recovery process, or how much pain and help I would need afterward.
Communication was a problem from the very beginning. When my first surgery had to be canceled because I was sick, my husband had already taken time off work and traveled from Colorado, and my sister had traveled from Montana to help care for me. I was later told the surgeon had never even been informed of the cancellation. That alone speaks volumes about the communication within the office.
The day of surgery was even more concerning. A nurse repeatedly called me by another patient's name and even placed the wrong identification band on me. When I expressed that it made me nervous, especially before surgery, I felt completely dismissed. I also overheard the nurse speaking negatively about me to another staff member, which only added to my anxiety.
Another major disappointment was the TRL laser resurfacing. I was told my neck would be treated as a courtesy along with my face. Instead, I had to return for a separate appointment where one of the technicians—not Dr. Hustak—performed the treatment on my neck. It was extremely painful, required additional healing time, caused significant hyperpigmentation, and ultimately produced very little improvement. Instead of helping, I was left with discoloration and another problem to try to correct.
After surgery, I discovered that procedures I believed we had discussed—including treatment on my neck during surgery and repair of my hernia—had not been performed. When I brought up my concerns during follow-up appointments, I left feeling unheard and dismissed rather than supported.
The most heartbreaking part has been what happened after surgery. I am still living with pain and unanswered questions. I sent Dr. Hustak three separate emails explaining my ongoing symptoms and concerns and asking for help. I never received a response to a single one.
No patient should have to beg their surgeon for a response while they're still suffering. The silence has been devastating. It left me feeling like once my surgery was over and my payment had been made, I no longer mattered. From my perspective, after my money was collected, I was simply ghosted.
The sad part is that I truly believe Dr. Hustak is a skilled surgeon for the most part. That's what makes this experience so disappointing. Surgical talent alone is not enough. Patients also deserve honesty, compassion, communication, informed consent, and follow-up care. A surgeon's responsibility doesn't end when the operation is over.
I sincerely hope this practice improves the way it communicates with and cares for patients after surgery, because no one should be left feeling abandoned while they're still living with pain.
