Verdict Still Not in - Only 5 Days Post Op

I had breast reduction 5 days ago. My bra size was 36/38 H. My age is 63 but I’m very active and still work 50+ hours a week. The pain has been pretty severe. The worst part is the burning pain and not being able to change the dressing for 6 days! Itching like crazy and the ace bandage is so tight I can hardly stand it. No one I spoke to prior to surgery mentioned burning pain... like a blow torch ! Anybody else have similar experience?

I had my post op appt today. The doctor thinks that I will have a D cup —— I feel like I look flat and have no shape. I know everyone says to be patient...... but the first day out of the tight binding and I feel like I have no shape left at all. Is this a common feeling?

It made me as if now I need to work on my tummy. It's a normal feeling for me right now too. My doctor said that they will drop a little and start to form a more natural shape in about six weeks. Don't be discouraged. Use this time to work on your surgery scars, write in a journal daily about your experience and know that you always have us to talk to. Can you take Aleve for your inflammation? That helps me a lot with the pain and swelling.

Congrats! Don’t you feel lighter?
I think everyone has different reactions. I had my reduction about 18 months ago, when I was 59. I’m really not sure what my size was, at least a 34 DD, but I was stuffing myself into 34 D for years. I had about 1 lb taken off each side, plus lipo under my arms & upper back. Immediately upon waking I felt so light - it was a miracle!
Apart from the soreness from the lipo, I had NO PAIN for two weeks. THEN it felt like someone was twisting my nipples while simultaneously they had weights hanging from them. And the burning pain, too! Ouch! I never took the Rx painkiller because I hate the way they make me feel, plus I live alone & didn’t want any mishaps. It was it’s most intense lije that for 3 days, & the inly way I could deal with it was ice packs & sitting as still as possible.
I did not have tight binding. It was more taped on bandages, which I could remove after a week. I did wear a front-closing cotton sports bra 24/7 for about 8 weeks.
The worst pain did not last too long. Just don’t think you must soldier on & not rest. Rest, rest, rest!!!!! That’s the best advice I can give.
I’m still so thrilled every day. I would say I’m probably a small C. I haven’t worn a bra since my surgeon saw me at 9 weeks & I was still wearing the sports bra. “Are you still wearing that thing?” she joked. “You can take it off, & never wear a bra again if you don’t want to!” And I haven’t!

Hi. I can’t imagine why you’d have to wait six days to change the dressing. Excessive burning could mean an infection. I showered and changed mine after 48 hours. I would call your doc about this. Ace bandage sounds painful too!

I need some advice again please. End of day 9 and my breast are so swollen that I can’t even put my arms down straight by my sides. I’m still in a lot of pain too and the soreness is almost unbearable. One more thing - there MUST be an easier way than pads and gauze to wrap the breast while the incisions heal. I’d love to hear from someone with similar issues?

Where did you have this done? What state & doctor? I had a breast reduction done a little over 2 months ago. I saw Dr. Bennett in Fresno. CA. I went from 38dd to 34 b/c.. I was happy with my surgery as far as size. I had a lollypop incission, areola reduction. The cut under my breast extends out to the sides of my ribs. It was painful the 1st month but not unbearable. Took antibiotics for 10 days. Drains removed after 2 to 3 weeks. No bruising and closure was done with surgical tape so no skin stitches. It itched like crazy for 2d thru 4th week. Couldn't shower until after my 2 week followup. I had swelling too but it eventually goes down but can take a long time for all to go away.IHas your doctor explained your discomfort to you? Answered your questions? He should be able to tell you what you can and can't do to feel better. You should be able to put your arms down without excessive pain. Did he prescribe pain medication or anti inflamatory? Ask him if you can take Advil if it's bothering you. After you get rid of the ace bandage you will feel better. You might want to keep wearing a sport bra for awhile tho. And yes, padding is the best dressing to use. Seems like it wasn't all that long for me to be able to just go braless at home. Don't know if any of this helps. Be prepared for cuts to peel lightly for a few weeks after bandages removed and scabs fall off. I hope your scars are minimal and they will fade over months to a year or more. I bought a silicone based scar gel to put on the cuts. They sell it at Wal-Mart for about $10 $12 a tube. Has a rolletball applicator s o no waste or pain to use. Also had problem with pimple type bumps right on edge of areola by scar. Under it I could feel a pea size bump. Decided to squeeze it and semisolid white stuff came out. Had to do that very carefully. But as soon as I drained it the itching stopped.on next followup I told my doctor of course because it made a exit hole. That I put tripple antibiotic on for a few days. It was ok. He said i should have left it alone but the itching drove me nuts. So what size did you want to end up at? Hope nothing is wrong and you heal fast from now on. Good luck!...ps...I'm gonna be 60 in less than 3 werks. Small framed and very shor.

I forgot to answer you about where I had it done. I live in middle America, Cape Girardeau, MO. It was performed by a plastic surgeon on an out patient basis. No drains at all.

Okay here’s some pics to help visualize what I am talking about with the bruising and swelling, especially under my arms. I’m changing up my meds today to include Ibuprofen since it is an anti inflammatory.

When you take the Ibuprofen, you're going to notice the difference by day two. It's a good thing...
I hope you're feeling better soon! Please do keep us posted.
