Breast Reduction Recovery Update
Recovery Update at 2 weeks and 3 days
I’m not liking how my breasts are not symmetrical like they used to be.. I hate how the areola are two different shapes. But I am still happy to not have back and neck pain, and that I don’t have to wear a bra. I look more like my size, so that is also great. I hope my breasts will even out...
Breast Reduction Surgery 38F to 38C
So I had developed breasts as early as 9 years of age. It was never fun for me. I was a C cup by 6th grade, and a D cup by 8th. I joined cross country when I was 14 going on 15 the summer before freshman year of high school. I already had grooves in my shoulders (I’m very petite; 5’1” 90 pounds at this time). I had to start birth control pills to regulate my hormone and ovarian cysts, which caused me to gain weight, especially in my breasts. So at 15 I had 32DD breasts. At age 18 I ended up with 36DD breasts and those stayed until I got pregnant, for which I don’t know what size I was while breast feeding because my F bras were too small and I was tired of buying bras, but afterwards I ended at a 38F cup. I had major pain in between my shoulder blades, shoulder grooves, severe shoulder/neck pain, redness under my breasts from sweat and rubbing, self-esteem issues, and a very hard time exercising like I used to which lead to weight gain and lack of being able to lose weight. I was miserable. It was fun making jokes and stuff and having a little extra attention, but nothing compared to how relieved I feel having gone through with the surgery (after MONTHS of literally fighting with insurance and doctors to recognize breast Reduction as medically necessary).
My surgeon was Dr. Hill from Loma Linda Plastic Surgery in California. He was a nice and funny old man. Very experienced and knowledgeable, so I trusted him. The hospital was wonderful and all the nurses were so kind and understanding of my anxiety disorder. I woke up from surgery in extreme pain, but the discharge nurse helped me with that and was very caring. It was very nice to feel so cared for (my c section surgery had the worst nurses possible who caused me constant pain and suffering as well as verbal attacks, so I was so happy I was not going through the same as before).
So far I am very pleased with my results. There is some asymmetry, especially with my nipples but also just where the tissue was moved on the sides of my breasts. Other than that, I am very happy. I was scared because one nipple is bruised pretty badly... but Dr Hill said that will heal and be normal color again. At my first post op appointment (day 7 after surgery) Dr Hill thought I had already been healing for 3-4 weeks because of how well the incision lines looked. That made me feel better. All was well. Now I am just waiting for my appointment in 6 weeks to get cleared to be able to work out! I hope it’s smooth sailing from here on out!
If you are thinking about getting breast Reduction surgery I highly suggest to do it, especially if insurance will cover it! All my pain is gone minus the pain from the knots in my back. My clothes fit so much better and I feel so much more confident! I am so happy and thankful to have been able to have this surgery done. It has already improved my quality of life even though I’m only 11 days post op.
