So Happy with my Reduction!!! 30G > D

WORTH IT
Had huge breasts for my frame thanks to genetics and wanted a reduction for years. I had a great experience with Dr. Bergman and her staff. From the moment I woke up from anesthesia my back/neck/shoulders have been healing and steady improving. The permanent grooves from my bras in my shoulders are gone. I actually have a torso and enjoy trying on clothes again! Dr. Bergman went to bat for me to get it covered by insurance (luckily mine provides coverage) and ultimately I didn’t have to pay a dime. I would go into detail but I think my results speak for the themselves. Very smooth and uneventful recovery. My incision scars are still healing but, just like my C-section scar, I imagine they’ll be nearly invisible by the time I’m a year post-op. If you are considering a reduction I highly recommend the r/reduction community on Reddit, it was a massive lifesaver for me before/after my procedure.

I'm sorry if this is too personal but have you gained any sensation back in your nipples ? It's really the only thing holding me back. Also congrats! You look fantastic

Not too personal at all! I’m a nurse so nothing is tmi for me haha. My right side was numb for the first 24 hours (which was actually welcome, because the left one HURT!) but it came back after that. Both sides have full sensation and honestly it’s probably even better than pre surgery. there’s no guarantee but I think most women retain sensation. dr Bergman is a great surgeon so if you used her I’m sure she’d give you her honest guess based on your goal size and how much tissue needs to be removed

That reduction community on Reddit is super helpful if you have more questions or concerns, it really was amazingly helpful for me

Would you mind telling me go much he reduction cost you?
January 14, 2021
As I mentioned it was fully covered by my insurance. I am unsure what the full cost of the procedure was as I wasn’t billed for it

Omg I love your results. I've been researching for almost 3 years now and your results actually have me ready to get mine done. If you don't mind me asking how did you go about getting your insurance to pay for it. Did you go to your primary care doctor first or did you go to the plastic surgeon?
January 16, 2021
So it really depends a lot on your insurance...mine (Anthem BCBS) didn’t require a referral, I was able to just make an appt with a plastic surgeon. I had a consultation visit with her where she reviewed my history (they wanna know about back/neck pain, PT, chiropractic treatment etc) and did an exam and took photos of my chest, my skin irritation, etc. She submitted everything to insurance for me. They approved it right out, but she also told me that if they denied it she would personally appeal it. Some docs are more willing to go to bat for you. Luckily mine was. Ultimately a lot of insurance companies use a calculation called the Schnur sliding scale that looks at your body surface area (BSI - there are calculators online you can use to find yours) and tells you what the minimum required amount of grams they would have to remove for it to be covered.
Ultimately the minimum requirement for my BSI was way lower than what I wanted removed so it worked out great.
Good luck to you and I hope you can find a great surgeon and get coverage!

Some insurance may need you to get a referral from your primary.

Hi, what is your age? How long did it take to recuperate fully?
March 9, 2021
I was 34 at the time of my surgery. And in pretty good health overall. It’s hard to say exactly when I “fully” recovered because the full healing and recovery process takes quite a while, really up to six months. I was up and walking within the first few days post surgery, but still very restricted especially with arm and chest movement, and was fatigued for a few weeks. As far as when I was back to my typical functioning, I would say about 5 to 6 weeks, when my surgeon cleared me to start exercising again. But I still had some residual soreness and itching etc. even after that. I’m over six months out now and really now feeling like I don’t have any residual pain or discomfort.
The actual incision scars will take probably at least a year or more to fade, and some individuals’ incision scars never fade fully.

More info: pregnancy/breastfeeding

Forgot to include in my original post: I have had one kid and I breastfed him for almost 2 years. My breasts got so huge right when I got pregnant with him and I hoped they might shrink a bit after breastfeeding, but never did. It seems to be genetic as my mom and sister had the same experience. My mom also had a reduction years ago and very pleased with her results. For me, I am not planning to have more kids so being able to breastfeed again wasn't a concern of mine.
