WORTH IT
My experience with having a breast reduction with Dr. Lechtman and his team was nothing short of wonderful. After waiting since I was 15 years old (half my life) for a chance at a breast reduction, I was blessed to be referred to his practice, where his staff is just lovely. The doctor himself is kind and warm, with wonderful bedside manner that put me at such ease throughout the whole process.
I had my first appointment in December 2024, my official consult in January 2025, and my surgery in June 2025, which was a surprisingly quick time frame compared to my expectations (though this will obviously vary from patient to patient). Dr. Lechtman and his team helped me feel completely prepared for the procedure and what to expect in the leadup to it, as well.
When it came to deciding on my ideal breast size, I have always idealized the aesthetic of flatter chests, and knew I wanted to be much smaller (ideally a "small B", down from a G/H), but feared any surgeon might try to talk me into something larger or more "proportionate" to my body. Not Dr. Lechtman. When I told him I had always dreamed of being small, his immediate response was literally "let's make that dream a reality, then."
The day of surgery and the procedure itself went as smoothly as could be, and I felt well informed of each step by the surgical team. I was overcome with joy and relief from the moment I awoke, even shedding a few tears when I realized it was finally done. I felt totally informed of the steps of recovery, so there were no surprises I was unprepared to handle. The pain was very manageable, and the healing process was shockingly easy (though obviously, this obviously varies from patient to patient).
I think a large portion of the comfort factor I experienced can be attributed to the fact that this PS does not use post-surgical drains or require wearing post-surgical compression vests. He cited scientific evidence (even handed me printed studies) that there is no proof that external drains actually aid the healing process, and instead opts to leave a tiny, natural drainage point at the center point of the anchor incision. This is what he did for my procedure, and I obviously had no issues. He also does not espouse religious use of post-surgical compression garments, claiming that it has no real effect on the results in the long run. I'm glad I trusted him in that regard, because I was able to wear whatever was most comfortable for me throughout the entirety of the recovery period, and I still could not possibly be happier with my perky little boobs.
I was genuinely so prepared for severe, doubled-over pain, or having to do "t-rex arms", but that was far from the case for me. The dressings were removed the next day, and I honestly had an easier time reaching up to wash my hair as soon as I was cleared to shower than I used to, without any giant boobs bouncing around as I scrub! I also had no need for the multiple button-up shirts that everyone recommended I buy for the recovery period, as I was able to lift my arms to put on and take off a regular shirt within a day or two.
This breast reduction has truly changed my life. my body image, and my entire self-esteem. I feel confident and comfortable in my own body for the first time since I can remember, and no longer avoid mirrors, but admire my silhouette in them now, instead! I can wear whatever style of clothing I want (I've gone from oversize everything and granny bras, to going braless in crop tops and sundresses!), and only wish I'd felt this free and positive in my teens and 20s. But I can't change that anymore, so I choose to celebrate this gift of beautiful breasts that I have been given now.
Now, I am beginning the process of VBeam laser treatments to treat hypertrophic scar tissue from my breast reduction last year. When I complete these procedures, I will gather and post my timeline of comprehensive Pre-Op -> 2 weeks -> 5 months -> 1 year post op progress photos! :)
