Dr. Louie is Likely Not the Surgeon to Go with for AHS Breast Reduction

I was scheduled to meet with Dr. Louie the week of February 12 after several months waiting on a referral to surgeon for a breast reduction. I have had large breasts my whole adult life, which has made wearing and buying clothes challenging, purchasing appropriately fitting bras costly, caused persistent neck pain and headaches, and impacted my ability to engage in cardio. I was so exited when the appointment was booked, but when I arrived, I was left to wait for more than 30 mins in the exam room before Dr. Louie showed up. When he did arrive, he did not ask anything about my chief complaints that necessitated the referral. He did ask me what I do for a living, which currently, I am a University student. After measuring my breast and estimating that I would have more than a pound taken off (not sure if this was each breast or total), he concluded that my breast reduction would be more of a breast lift making it plastic surgery rather than an AHS-billed procedure. He left, and I was then told to talk to the scheduling clerk. I am student (something he was well aware of), so an $8,500 expense is not something I can pocket at this stage in my life. I told the clerk there was simply no way that I could afford that and went to my car to cry.

I had looked forward to this appointment as a means to alleviate pain, embarrassment, and the extra expenses all associated with larger breasts. I did not feel understood during this appointment (there was no discussion about my medical history beyond what was needed for a surgery). Now that some time has passed since the appointment, and that I have had time to about the whole experience and based on Dr. Louie's conduct, it appears that Dr. Louie is not interested in carrying out AHS-billed breast reduction and trying to funnel desperate patients into the plastic surgery and paying out of pocket for the expense.

This experience has wasted my time after months waiting for a referral, and I will be seeking a second opinion with someone who will actually ask me about my clinical history. If you are looking for a surgeon that understands your needs and will bill to AHS Dr. Louie is likely not the surgeon to go with.
