Bad Business Practice
I've been researching doctors and having consultations for a procedure (or procedures) I want to have done next year. I'm interviewing several doctors, because I want to make sure I choose the best. While researching I came across Dr Nathan. I did my usual research, verified his background and made sure he was board certified etc. although his online presence and social media presence is weak, without many verified personal reviews, I still decided to give him a "looking into" (even though it seems his practice is relatively new). I called his office for a consultation and the receptionist told me it was a $100 consultation fee. Now, I've been around the surgical community for a while and I have no problem with the $100 consultation fee, but that is normally with very well established, routinely booked "popular" doctors. I have been to several consultations already with high profile Miami doctors that were completely complimentary. We are talking about doctors who you can go on RealSelf or Instagram and easily find years and years worth of their work. Anyways, back to the call for a consultation, the lady on the phone said $100 fee to ensure my appointment, I was fine with that and was going to schedule. Then I mentioned to her that I also want to talk to the Dr Nathan about another procedure (minor in-office procedure) that I may be interested in having with him, and the lady told me them the consult Jon fee would be double. So I would need to pay $200 to have just one consultation with him?! To further the insult, she said if I decide not to have the procedure, I would just lose the $200. Are you serious? Firstly, a consultation fee in miami for cosmetic surgeons are normally only in place to ensure that you make it to your appointment (these consultation fees are typically only for high profile surgeons, as their time is limited). Dr Nathan is still very new, and doesn't have an established reputation so the fact that he would even charge a consultation fee to begin with is off-putting. Also, typical doctors will advise you, if you don't elect to have the surgery they apply your consultation fee to something else like Botox, fillers etc. But my biggest gripe with Dr Nathan's clinic, is that he would try to double dip and charge (double) $200 for a consultation simply because I have multiple procedures I was interested in possibly scheduling with him. The audacity to say to a client, I'm going to charge you an extra $100 for a minute more of my time is a disgrace. Literally, the additional procedure would take him less than 2 minutes to access and tell me if he can do what I'm looking for. I mean, not even Dr Miami charged $100 per minute. This type of practice seems very unethical to me. He lost a potential client who was looking to have a procedure which easily costs over $10,000. My advice to the Doctor is to change your practice procedures regarding consultation fees . If you have a client wanting multiple procedures and you're going to see them in one visit, do not try and and charge double for a consultation fee - it's not typical in Miami and it's highly offensive and unethical.
