WORTH IT
Hi - So I’ve been really interested in reading all the great posts on this site since I found it 3 months ago. Thanks to everyone for sharing. Figured I would pay it forward a well so her is a quick summary.
Just like everyone on here I’ve been dealing with large breasts since my late teens. Lots of back pain, but in 2013 it became much worse and I’ve been disabled by chronic sciatica since then. Always wished for a reduction but finally decided to take action after recommendations from my PCP and the neurosurgeon who performed my spine surgery. I started out as a 42G bra size. Had surgery 5 days ago. So far very pleased with results and has been a good experience with my PS, Dr Anthony Terrasse. Looking forward to seeing the long term results and being done with wearing a bra 24/7.

Re pain - Right now still pretty uncomfortable and lots of swelling under my arms. Was taking 6 Norco per day for first 3 days. Down to 3-4 yesterday. So far haven’t taken any pain meds today. While pain is much reduced I am very tired and running a low fever. Saw PS yesterday and he saw no issues so said I need to keep resting and let him know if fever goes up over 101. So that’s where I’m at. Here is a before pic and some pics from a few days ago. Will post again with final pics once I’m healed up.

Post op day 6

So - tomorrow it will have been exactly one week since my BR surgery. Things look pretty much the same as last set of pics. Unfortunately I feel about the same too, maybe worse. The first few days were uncomfortable but not terrible as long as I was taking pain medicine. Had a low fever but it’s gone now. I switched to plain old Tylenol during the day. All seemed ok, but yesterday afternoon the itching started and then the flu symptoms came back, and today I’m about as uncomfortable as I was the second day after surgery. Perhaps I am lucky enough to have actually gotten the flu within days of the surgery, but either way I’m so frustrated to be as uncomfortable as I still am. Flu symptoms added to the itching and chest pressure are making me so miserable, and pain medication just makes me feel more sick right now. I’ll stop whining now. Anyone else deal with this rebound effect or flu symptoms?

Day 7 post op pics

Here are pics of how things are looking one week post op. A lot of swelling under my arms. Apparently I’m a complete wimp because everyone else seems to be feeling well by 7 days post op but I’m still very uncomfortable. I think part of discomfort is due to my chronic lumbar spine issues being exacerbated by having to sleep on my back, and me conveniently catching a flu after surgery. Miserable now but I know it will all be worth it in the end. Advance warning- I’ll probably continue to whine until I can sleep on my side again and this flu is gone. Every time remove dressings I’m really happy with how much Dr Terrasse was able to remove. Working with his office continues to be great.

Thanks for your comment. Flu is gone so I am definitely feeling a little less sorry for myself. :-)

So glad flu is gone! Small favors, right?! How is the pain? I have had a lumbar back surgery as well... And oh...laying flat is the worse! Rats... I was hoping things could get better before things got worse lol!! So, two wks post surgery for you? I've been on pain medication for so long.. It's hard to control my pain after surgeries

Yes! I’ve been wondering if the long term pain medication was the reason my pain hasn’t been well controlled by the prescription my PS gave me. Before the BR I had been on 2400 mg of Ibuprofen per day and 5- 10mg of Norco per night for the back pain for 5 years. Since the BR I have been so much more uncomfortable than it sounds like most people here are, and it seems like the PS is doubtful about my level of pain. Pretty frustrating experience so I have been doing some research on it. I read that patients under long term treatment for chronic pain develop a tolerance to rx pain medication so can sometimes require as much as four times more pain medication as an average patient to achieve the same level of pain control for any surgical procedure. I fear this may indeed be the situation I find myself in. Sounds like this may have been your experience as well?

Yes Ma'am, it is exactly my experience! I had a colonoscopy and was told post procedure it took three times the amount over what she usually uses to get me under. I don't remember any of that.. Thank goodness but yes..our tolerance is so high.. My husband has said i can't take any pain at all...

You look fantastic! I hope the pain is getting better. Have you tried ice on your back? I would definitely ask Dr first but I'm a big believer in ice and mild heat. I don't use a lot of heat but it helps to encourage relaxation. Just gotta be careful with it. I have a date for my consultation and so excited!!

Interesting about the anesthesia. My husband says the exact same thing about my pain tolerance. I wish our brains would build a tolerance for pain as quickly as a tolerance for pain medication! Thanks for advice about ice and heat. I hav done some of it. Seems to help a bit. The biggest help lately has been a new PT I’m seeing. I’ve been in physical therapy for my back for 5 years and tried 4 physical therapists and two chiropractors with little luck. Then I came across information about “postural restoration” in my research so found a physical therapist in my area who is certified in it. Very different approach that really does seem to be helping much more than the older methods. Congratulations on setting date for your consultation! Keep me posted on how it goes.
