Alberta Healthcare Coverage
I started my journey June 2019. I asked my family Doctor for a breast reduction referral and it took 9 months to get my first appointment in March 2020 with Dr Diana Wong from Camrose. She said I was a good candidate and told me Alberta Healthcare should Cover my total cost and they would send all paperwork for approval. I then went on the wait list for surgery. Saint Mary’s hospital called with a pre-op appointment for sept 8, 2020. Pre-op very detailed talking to pharmacy, nurse and anesthesiologist. Saint Mary’s hospital called again two days later to set up my surgery for Oct 2, 2020.
My surgery was scheduled for 0730am Friday morning but I had to arrive at 5:55am. Admittance was very quick and over to Unit 1 I headed. Once there a nurse named Carson showed me to my room. I had the room to myself and my husband was allowed to stay in that room all day.
Nurse Carson did all the paperwork, IV, and set me up with a heated gown(felt fantastic!). I put on my stockings and by the time I knew it I was wheeled down to surgery where I met Dr Wong and she made her markings. I never knew nothing until I woke up with very little pain. I never got out of hospital until 4:30pm. Dr Wong likes to see her patients at the end of the day before they are released. So be prepared to stay in hospital all day if you are first for surgery.
I was released from hospital and had an hours drive to home. Bring a pillow to place between the seatbelt and your breasts.... Although I slept most of the ways!
The first 3 days I was in pain and needed tramadol. I woke up on morning number 4 with very little pain and have not needed any meds since. I went from a 36E to what I’m thinking a 36C. She took off 2lbs which I can definitely feel on my neck.
I must say the whole process was extremely smooth. Dr Wong is very nice and she explained everything in detail. Very sweet woman to talk with. Nurse Carson at Saint Marys was fantastic. Walked me through the morning process and came to surgery with me. I am very happy with my results and healing very well. I have to keep the breast binder on for another 30 days....until my second follow up. It’s not that uncomfortable though.
