It has been a journey. Ive been trying to get a reduction for the past 5-6 years and was finally able to get it done today with help from my doctor and insurance.

A little background My breasts fully came in at about 16 and grew at least a cup size every year until I was about 23. I've been miserable with back pain, neck pain, and shoulder pain for years. I didn't feel like anyone was listening to me. This all changed with my primary care doctor.

She listened to me and understood my needs. After a month's long search, I found my surgeon. She was and is amazing. I felt so comfortable with the whole process. We hit some bumps due to COVID (me having to be tested and backups at the lap) but we got it done.

Attaching my before pics. Hopefully attaching "after" tomorrow. My SO has been so supportive through the whole process and says he can already tell the difference.
I feel lighter but I'm sore currently

I can not say enough positive things about Dr. Amaka. She changed my life. I've struggled with large breasts for years and always put off having the issue addressed. It really started impacting my quality of life in the past few years and I knew something needed to be done. I spent hours researching when I came across Maxwell Aesthetics. I read Dr. Amaka's profile and immediately knew that she was my match. I went to my consult and knew that I wanted to work with her. She made me feel so at ease. Fast forward after my reduction, I couldn't be happier. She really listened to me. She got me to the size I wanted and it was so beautifully done. I couldn't have asked for a better surgeon to work with.

Post op, what size are your breast now (Cup size)?
June 14, 2020
I'm still in a sports bra 24/7. I'll know about size at 6 weeks unless my PS wants me in a sports bra longer

Your issues sounds exactly like mine and I too have no kids and wonder who your primary is that helped you? Insurance paid for your reduction? How did that work? That is amazing and I am sooo happy for you! I have been miserable for so many years and have given up! I am a 44 DDD and one breast is considerably larger than the other and my back and neck pain is unbearable.

The best way to explain the doctors and insurance is to start at the beginning. I have BCBS and I needed a letter of medical necessity for them to cover the procedure. I went to my Primary (Dr. Jorif) who assessed my pain and symptoms and wrote me a referral for a breast reduction. I had already been looking at several offices and had the referral sent to my current PS office. After receiving the referral, the receptionist called me to set up a consultation. My PS Dr. Amaka took my measurements, assessed my symptoms, and sent pics to the insurance company. She also wrote a letter to the insurance discussing my pain and her recommended course of action. The insurance reviewed and approved!

My recommendation is to find out what your insurance needs in order to cover the procedure and advocate for yourself. My previous primary care doctors would not listen to me about my pain. They always tried to come up with options that didn't work for me. It wasn't until I found my doctors now, that I know what it's like for someone to take me seriously. I hope you can get some relief soon.

That is so helpful and good for you for persisting and finding the right primary care physician for you. I think a ton of women need the advice that you just gave.

Results with some swelling

Giving173583
I could not be happier. I was able to take off the surgical bra yesterday and looked at the results. I'm very happy with what I see.
I didn't add this in the first post but she used the anchor incision technique and i do not have drains. I'm thinking I'm having more swelling because i don't have drains.
As far as pain, I'm definitely feeling it when I get close to time to take another pain pill. The pain is a mix of burning and soreness from the incisions and some lipo that she did.

Thanks for the update! My surgery is 6/15. You don't seem to have a lot of scars, that's a good thing! I have my Pre op appointment tomorrow. At my consultation in March, the PS indicated I didn't need any drains as well. We'll see if he says the same thing tomorrow at the appointment.

I don't know what she used during surgery but my incisions are literally tiny. I have minimal bleeding and draining right now too. Knock on wood but I hope it continues. When I have pain meds working, I'm about 75% as far as range of motion and getting around and it's only day 3. Crossing my fingers for a good surgery for you. Only thing I would recommend is to ask if they want you to have a COVID test about 1.5 weeks in advance. My office asked for it 3 days before surgery and it caused me a lot of stress with trying to find one.

Yaaayyyyyyy they look good girl . So happy everything is going great for you .

Thank you! I hope things are going well for you too! How are you feeling?
June 1, 2020
i'm doing okay very little burning today but my drains are driving me crazy so i'm ready to see how ima feel after tomorrow ! how you feeling today ?
June 1, 2020
Still a little sore from the lipo but the itching has started from the nerve healing and the tape. I'm excited to be put in a sports bra tomorrow
June 2, 2020
yes ! i got drains out today everything taking off and got to see them .. OMG IM SO HAPPY ! i took a picture it's not the best but i'll post it .
June 2, 2020
Where did you have lipo? Had my pre op today and PS said he would do lipo in armpit area and upper back.
June 2, 2020
That's exactly where I had it and it's sore and swollen. Coming back from post op now and she said I can alternate 10 min on 10 min off for ice
June 2, 2020
Omg! You don't have any bruising from lipo? That's awesome! So do you think it made a difference with getting the lipo? I went back and forth deciding if I wanted it, but I'm going to go ahead and do it. And I guess I need to add ice packs to my list!
June 2, 2020
I do have bruising and it definitely hurts a bit. It was really noticeable the other day in terms of discoloration (some red bruising). My PS opted to lipo and I do believe that it makes my frame look a bit smaller
June 1, 2020
Thanks for the heads up! They did mention I would have to take a Covid test prior to surgery. I'll ask more about it tomorrow.
June 1, 2020
Definitely do. I got a pass because I've been quarantining for about 3 weeks before surgery but my results still aren't back and I took the test almost a week ago.
June 1, 2020
Your results are amazing. Which surgeon did you decide on? I'm trying to find a surgeon. And it's hard finding and trusting real pictures with similar before pictures that match my desired size.

Thank you so much! I haven't made time to do my provider review yet but her name is Dr Amaka Nwubah. Shes out of Nashville, TN. She is really amazing and I loved working with her. She made me feel 100% comfortable.

Do you know how many grams he removed? Your before pics looks a lot like my boobs.
June 7, 2020
I don't have the full final numbers yet but she said it was at least 1000 grams from each breast

1 week down

Not much to see in the pics posted. I'm still swollen but I feel like I'm healing. I'm only taking pain killers as needed and overall the pain level isn't horrible.
As far as sensations go, I'm feeling nerves healing, so tingling and occasional sharp pain. Feeling has returned to my left nipple but nothing from my right nipple yet.
I'm working on getting my appetite back. I'm not really hungry and I'm guessing it's the medications. I'm on protein supplements in the meantime.
Also, did anyone else have issues with their Steri strips? The ones under my breasts by my waist are coming up already. (Already talked to my surgeon and we're reapplying but I'm just curious)

Looking good and no scars! Amazing! Hoping my PS can achieve the same results! Thanks for addressing nipple sensation as that's my biggest concern. What kind of protein supplements are you taking?
June 5, 2020
The incisions are under the steri strips right now. I'm hoping scaring will be minimal but my PS made sure to cut where the scars wont be as noticeable.

Nipple sensation worried me too. I'm hoping that my right perks up in a few weeks or so. I know I'm still healing but it is weird to have one nipple at 100% and the other at 0%.

I was taking Ensure Surgery a week before and 5 days after surgery. I'm on Ensure Enlive for the next several weeks. My PS recommended protein supplements a week before surgery and 3 weeks after.

Good to know about the protein. I figured that the appetite may be affected, plus nausea can be a thing, too. I have some protein options on hand for after my surgery next week. In the back of my mind, I couldn't help but think maybe I'll even drop a few pounds, lol. Glad you're continuing to feel well!

I just looked at your profile for Tummy Tuck! Nice! I really want to get one too! Thanks for the motivation. I need to start saving my pennies now. Lol!

Thank you so much and you should totally go for it! The recovery wasn't nearly as bad as I anticipated. I bought a walker and everything, lol. Never even used it.
