Diep Flap Reconstruction

I had recurrent Dcis breast cancer that became invasive. I was forced into the Diep flap surgery by the hospital and they had an 11 week wait time for the operation. I wasn’t shown any pictures of what it would look like and the recovery was horrendous. Even though the breast feels natural it’s a full size smaller than other breast and horrible scars that I’ll have to have tattooed over. Not happy with the extra scarring caused during operation due to previous radiation affecting skin and clamp being used. No apology given. So now I look like a freak. The breast team was Ms Jane Rothwell , Mr Colin Morrison and Dr Damian Macartan. Very difficult surgery even for a young woman. Wouldn’t advise it.

This is six months later. Still have to go through radiation so I’m really upset about the state of reconstructed breast. I don’t think I got the best option for me. It was oversold on the outcomes and I’m not sure the team were qualified. I wish I had gotten a second opinion probably a different hospital.

Still healing slowly but it’s getting there. After care is good putting my mind at ease about scars . Asymmetry being addressed and second surgery arranged to fix that. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. The team at St Vincent’s private excellent.
