Highly Recommend for DIEP Flap
WORTH IT
I met Dr Mathew about halfway into my breast cancer experience, as my original surgeon resigned right before my scheduled DIEP flap. My DIEP flap was after having a DMX with tissue expanders with my original surgeon.
In a time where I had so much anxiety, meeting with Dr. Mathew put me at ease. Not only is he an extremely knowledgeable professional, but he is sincere and honest about what the procedures entail and the anticipated outcomes for your body type. He took time to answer all of my questions and I felt comfortable and like I was in good hands with him for my surgery.
My DIEP flap surgery had both better cosmetic results and easier healing than I expected from reading about the procedure, both of which I credit to having a good surgeon, especially given the microvascular aspect of this surgery.
Dr. Mathew really went above and beyond with my abdominal area to give me a smooth flat stomach that transitions seamlessly to my pelvis (no "Ken doll"), a low scar, and a cute new belly button. He maintained the curves of my waist and hips to preserve my hourglass shape. The work he did on my breasts look natural, with small round flaps where my nipples used to be and a nice scar pattern that is mostly hidden. After meeting with him post-op, I am confident with my upcoming revision he will be able to fix the small dog ears and cosmetic issues left from the surgeon who performed my tissue expander reconstruction. Seeing how beautiful Dr. Mathew's work came out in comparison to what I had previously, I am looking forward to the revision as I know he will make it look natural.
I would highly recommend Dr. Mathew for his professionalism, the precision and beauty of his craft, and his sincerity/compassion. While he wasn't my surgeon at the start of all this, I am so grateful he ended up being the surgeon for my DIEP flap. I am starting to feel confidence again with my new body after feeling like cancer took so much away from me so young.
