DIEP Flap surgery - Fat/tissue was transplanted from my abdomen

Getting a diagnosis of breast cancer is overwhelming. Everyone’s story is different. I knew when I was diagnosed that I was going to be aggressive as possible, and decided to have a bilateral mastectomy. Finding a team that would do what I wanted was so important, as some of the doctors I met with encouraged saving the breast, no matter what I wanted.
When I met with Dr. Bedri, his patience, willingness to explain details, and calm demeanor were exactly what I was looking for. He is a kind, sympathetic surgeon, with a great sense of humor. But most importantly, he is a PERFECTIONIST. My reconstruction looks amazing. I wasn’t interested in implants, so after the breast tissue was removed, Dr. Bedri did a DIEP Flap surgery, where fat/tissue was transplanted from my abdomen to my breasts. I was fortunate to have been able to save my nipples, and can honestly say that chest looks very much like it did prior to the mastectomy…with a little more shape and plumpness. I didn’t want anything drastically different, and I couldn’t be happier with the results.
It is a major surgery, and the recovery is a lot. There’s no way around that. But after talking to many women who have had DIEP Flaps, and hearing their stories, I know that I chose the best surgeon possible to reconstruct my breasts. I would recommend Dr. Bedri to absolutely anyone who needs reconstruction….without hesitation.
