Day 3 — Bandages are off, and WOW

I had a follow-up appointment with Dr. Iteld yesterday, and he cut off the thick surgical bandages I was wrapped in. And there they were! I was thrilled from the moment I saw them — I've looked at enough pictures of other women's implants before they dropped to be able to tell how fantastic they're going to look in a few weeks. I was given a very soft bra and an implant stabilizer band (which should encourage them to drop) — see attached pics for what they look like.
Dr. Iteld told me he ended up going with 325cc in one breast and 345cc in the other.
I was more sore on day 2 than day 1, but it was an extremely manageable "I went too hard at the gym' kind of sore — no sharp pains, and the incisions didn't hurt at all. I took the day off of work and needed a nap in the afternoon, but I was feeling well enough to run some errands during the afternoon and to go visit some friends for a movie night in the evening.
I slept great on both the first and the second night — as a side sleeper with insomnia, I was concerned about sleeping on my back, but it's been totally fine. (The Vallium probably helps with that — it completely knocks me out.) I bought a wedge pillow and have another memory foam pillow on top of it, and then I kind of build myself a nest out of other pillows so if I want to roll my head over I can. No back/neck pain during the day either.
I woke up today (day 3) the sorest I've been yet, although once I got up and started moving around that subsided pretty quickly, even before I took any meds. I was cleared to shower (although not with hot water) today, and I was very prepared to have the incisions sting a little but I couldn't feel the water on them at all. Woo hoo! I didn't experience any dizziness or anything in the shower — it felt GREAT to get clean after surgery.
I'm a little more tired today, but all things considered, I'm feeling great. Most of the time, I'm in no pain at all, aside from an occasional jab here or there and some occasional soreness at the tops of my breasts. If anything, I almost feel TOO good and have to keep reminding myself that I'm recovering from a pretty major surgery and shouldn't be raising my arms / lifting heavy things, etc.
One thing I WILL say is that, if you are considering this surgery, think about doing regular yoga for a few months beforehand. I'm not especially good at yoga or anything, but having good balance/control of my body/core muscles has been extremely helpful in moving around without assistance or relying heavily on my arms.
Lots of pics included! I'll post my next update after my 1-week follow-up.

Day of Surgery — Shocked at How Great I Feel!

After 75-80lbs of weight loss (over 190 down to 115 at 5'3), the girls looked like two sunnyside eggs stapled to a plank. No bueno. After I turned 30 and worked two jobs for most of the year to pay down some debt, I decided my present to myself was getting my boobs fixed. I chose Dr. Iteld because of his fabulous reviews and narcotics-free recovery, and I'm extremely pleased at how pre-op and the surgery went. My first appointment was in late August, and I asked what was the latest I could schedule surgery in order to be able to go out for Halloween and on a work trip to Toronto in mid-November, and we decided on October 3. Perfect.

We landed on a breast lift (mastopexy), most likely with a lollipop incision, and likely 325cc high-profile silicone gummy implants placed under the muscle. I haven't spoken to Dr. Iteld since he performed the surgery, but I have a follow-up doctor appointment tomorrow morning where I will get more specifics on what was done.

I've never had surgery before, and even though I knew I was making the right decision, I expected a LOT more pain. But after chatting with some friendly nurses and a final talk with Dr. Iteld where he drew all sorts of lines on my chest, they put some drugs in my IV and I was out in no time.

The worst part was waking up — I had an extremely vivid dream (hallucination?) that a girl who had bullied me in middle school was there taking pictures of me while I was unconscious but had just stepped out into the hallway, and I started shouting her name to get her to come back in the room so I could tell her not to post them. Oops. The nurse who came in was lovely and reassured my loopy self that nobody was taking pictures of me, and I managed to calm down before I had a full-blown panic attack. I also had some burning along the incisions when I first woke up, but they gave me something for that and it subsided fairly quickly.

And let me tell you — waking up and seeing your new boobs is a WILD experience. I was prepared for pain, for nausea, for stomach issues, but I could not prepare myself for that. It still doesn't feel entirely real.

I had some nausea on the elevator ride to the parking garage and on the ride home, but I took some Zofran and ginger tea when I got home and it helped immensely. (I also took Emend, another anti-nausea drug, prior to surgery — it was a little expensive at $80 for a single pill, but everyone I talked to recommended it highly.) I'm also on regular doses of 1000mg of Tylenol (although am hoping to cut down on that ASAP), Celebrex (an nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory), Gabapentin (an anti-convulsant that affects the pain receptors in the body), Singulair (another anti-inflammatory), Cephalexin (an antibiotic), Valium (a sedative that treats anxiety and muscle spasms), and Sinnech (a homeopathic Arnica product that is supposed to reduce bruising and swelling.) But no opioids, and I honestly don't feel like I need them!

Once my nausea subsided, I was truly surprised at how great I felt. I'd rate the pain maybe a 2/10 for most of the day, and now at night when some of the drugs are needing a re-dose I'm at a very manageable 3-4/10 — everything feels kinda tight and swollen, but I've had workouts that felt far worse 2 days later. I expected way, way worse, and tomorrow may be a rough day, but most of my concerns about recovery have subsided. If anything, I'm going to need to make sure I take it easy to give my body time to properly heal!

I have my post-op appointment in the morning, so I'll post some updates and new pictures afterward. So far, though, so good. It was an IMMEDIATE confidence booster fixing the thing that bothered me most about my body, and the surgery itself was really, really no big deal.

About to go try to sleep on the wedge pillow I bought — that's honestly going to probably end up being the worst part of all this. More updates tomorrow!
