Breast Augmentation With Lift Left Severe Scarring and Asymmetry — Results Still Visible 7 Years Later

Procedure: Breast Augmentation with Lift
Date: January 21, 2019
Doctor: John Kirkjain
Location: Fort Worth, Texas
I had breast augmentation with silicone implants and an anchor-style breast lift performed by John Kirkjain in Fort Worth on January 21, 2019 after my right saline implant ruptured during a mammogram.

The surgery was intended to replace the ruptured implant and improve the overall shape and symmetry of my breasts. Unfortunately, the results were extremely disappointing. All photos were taken March 14, 2026.
Once the sutures were removed, the scars were very large, jagged, and extended far past the underside of my breasts. My nipples were left uneven in both size and placement, my right breast areola was pulled down into the suture line, and my right breast began bottoming out.
Looking back, there were early warning signs that made me uncomfortable. During pre-operative bloodwork, an office staff member came in to draw my blood and appeared extremely nervous. When I asked if something was wrong, she admitted they had just started having her draw blood and that she had never done one before. I declined and asked for the regular person. Eventually another staff member came in to do the draw, but she seemed irritated and had the new employee watch her.
On the morning of surgery, Dr. Kirkjain marked my chest for the procedure. Before leaving the room, he asked if I would allow a medical student to observe during surgery for educational purposes. I agreed to observation only.
At first I believed everything went well. The sutures were covered and difficult to see. At my follow-up visit I was told everything looked great while the sutures were still covered.
Once everything was removed, however, I was shocked by the results. The scars were extremely large and extended far past the underside of my breasts. They were jagged rather than smooth. My nipples were different sizes and positioned unevenly. The right breast appeared to be bottoming out, and the areola on that side looked like it had been pulled down into the suture line.
When I returned to discuss these concerns, Dr. Kirkjain initially suggested I must have lost significant weight since surgery. I told him that was not the case and even offered to step on a scale. He then suggested that my breasts must have been that uneven prior to surgery. I told him I had numerous photos from before the procedure and would gladly show them.
After that conversation, he offered to perform a corrective surgery without charging his surgical fee (though I would still have been responsible for hospital costs). I declined. After the results I experienced, I was not comfortable allowing him to operate on me again.
I also asked directly whether the medical student participated in performing any part of my surgery. He told me they did not.
These photos were taken March 14, 2026. The scars are now over seven years old and still look severe. The appearance has caused me embarrassment and significantly affected my confidence.
I strongly encourage anyone considering cosmetic surgery to thoroughly research their surgeon, ask detailed questions, and trust their instincts. I still have my operative records, pre-surgery photos, and documentation from the procedure if verification is ever needed.
