Two week post of for capsular contracture in left breast. I am feeling great and the surgery went well. It still sitting a little high but it’s more round and looking much better. I am hoping the swelling goes down soon and it falls in the pocket. I am also experiencing a lot of numbness in my left breast. I have read that is normal. I will give it another week or two and the contact my PS.

Capsular contracture
So talked to my PS about my left side not dropping and he is thinking it’s a capsular contracture. I knew something wasn’t right. Looks like I will have to have surgery to fix it. Has anyone under gone surgery to fix it, just wondering what I am looking forward to?

Sorry to hear about your left side not dropping. PS treat capsular contracture differently, so it would be best to ask your own PS what he plans on doing. That aside I had cc with my right breast. My PS treated it by removing the entire implant capsule and replacing the implant; and from I’ve read this is the proper “standard of care” (i.e. removal of the entire capsule and replacement of the implant) for treatment of capsular contracture. Some PS simply score (i.e. cut) the capsule and replace the implant which may not be sufficient according to studies, since it is believed by some that cc is caused by a bacterial biofilm that needs to be completely removed. I also took Singulair (an “off label” treatment) for the first three months PO as a preventative for the cc returning. For other opinions on the treatment of capsular contracture you may want to post a question in the doctors Q&A here. Good luck. :-)

Left still not dropping
My PS said that I can aggressively massage and if by 6 months it hasn’t dropped he can do a procedure to make it come down. I’ve tried looking up what the procedure would entail but cannot find much. Does any one know or has anyone on here had a revision to help one drop?

Hi there, sorry to hear about your left side. I will say that your issue is not really noticeable in your photo from front view. Perhaps a side profile collage (comparing one side to the other) would show the difference between the two breasts. In any case I don’t doubt that you may be seeing something in person that’s not noticeable in photo. I’m not an M.D. but imo what needs to be done to resolve your issue would depend on what’s causing it. A couple questions: does one side feel firmer than the other side? I had grade II capsular contracture which gave my right breast a slightly different shape and made it slightly higher than the other side. I’m not saying you have capsular contracture, but if that’s what’s causing the asymmetry the treatment for (i.e. standard of care) for cc would be removal of the scar tissue (implant capsule) and replacement of the implant. Some PS say the muscle could also be holding the implant up higher; however I’ve seen other PS (in the doctors Q&A) state that muscles don’t hold implants up only scar tissue (cc) does. If both implants feel completely soft (and the same) I would speculate that perhaps the pocket placement was different on each side; or your natural crease may be higher on one side (pushing the implant up more) and your PS overlooked this factor during surgery. Have you thought of posting your question in the “ask a doctor” section here? I recommend you do so. And be sure to post pics from different angles not just from the front. I hope you find a resolution. Please keep us posted.
Have you one the regular massaging ie: pushing them together, hold for 10, repeat 10x’s then do the same pushing them up?
yes but I don’t think it’s gonna drop anymore. My surgeon said if it’s not dropped by the 6 month mark in May he will have to go in a pull it down.
I may be due for a revision on my right as well. If I end up needing it, I know the recovery won’t be what it was the first time since the pocket is already open. What kind of “aggressive” massage did you end up doing?
I was hold up and push down as hard as I could. I would also stand against the wall and have my husband push down as hard as he could. I asked my doctor to clarify aggressive massage and he didnt really day anything. He won’t talk about the revision process until I am 6 months. Do you know what they do to pull it down?
Whoa! Sounds intense. I guess just pushing down and holding. My right is lower, but it’s the inframammary fold. I was only pushing up an in to keep the pocket open and prevent capsular contracture. PS didn’t tell me to, but I also massaging with my fingers making circles all around. I did that at the beginning when they were achy, but it could help. I’m just not going to worry about the difference in mine for 6 months and then go from there.
waiting is the hardest part! I am at 4 months post op and I don’t really see any movement in mine possible. I hope everything with yours work out.
Thank you! My right now has a flat area. Maybe that is where swelling has decreased? I have another P.O. this week. In the mean time they look great in a bra and my t-shirts fit way better!
I’m in the same boat, I’m 2.5 months post op and my left won’t drop. my surgeon said wait til my next follow up at 3 months post op and I’ll be having the same procedure as you. has yours dropped yet?
No it has not. I feel like it is starting to get higher and harder. But I can’t have a revision until like November. Only time I can be down for a few months.
