Spitting stitches at almost 5 weeks post

WORTH IT$18,000
Yesterday I noticed what appeared to be a blood blister on the underside of my right breast. When I got out of the shower I saw some pink drainage on my towel. When I looked at my incision I saw a little hole where the blood blister place had been. I was totally freaked out! I called my PS and he didn’t seem too worried. I’m putting gauze and Bacitracin to the open area three times per day (as directed) and I am going on for a follow up tomorrow.
From what I understand, spitting stitches” is a pretty common thing, but I honestly was not prepared for it. I was supposed to be going on a beach vacation with my family as extended family, but I am thinking I will be forgoing the trip. I cannot sit and swelter on the beach for a week in July and not be able to swim. I am feeling pretty disappointed that I am missing a major family event (and being out some serious cash as a result). I wish that I had been informed that there was a likelihood (common place) that I would continue to have open wounds on a long-term basis. I’ve read where people have these spitting stitches for up to a year after surgery.
My post-op instructions said no swimming for 6 weeks, but it looks like that’s not happening for me.

Hi! You look great. I only had 2 stitches come out of one breast. Maybe you will only have the one. Im sorry that you will be missing the family beach vacation. I would feel disappointed too. Yep...I read about someone who was spitting stitches for a year as well. I was also told I couldnt swim for 6 weeks. But, I wouldn't go in the water if I had a little open wound on my breast either. I think you are making the right decision to forgo the trip. You gotta take care of yourself, and heal up. You look great. Take care. Happy Healing!
Your incisions look great and you look like you are healing very nicely

My scars are looking a little more red this week but still looking good. I’ve started using Silagen, as per my PS’s post op protocol.

Today I finally got the staples and steri-strips taken off and I am pretty excited about my results. I feel great. Still having occasional discomfort but I don’t even need to take Tylenol. I am hoping to start some light cardio with a very supportive sports bra!!
