Wonderful Doctor, Wonderful Staff, and Wonderful Outcome!
From the moment I arrived for my consultation until I left my 3-month checkup, I felt like I was the only patient at the practice. The entire staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and they take the time to make you feel comfortable and answer every question, no matter how small. I never felt rushed and everyone I interacted with was calm and professional.
I went to see Dr. Coan because I had 15-year-old breast implants and I wanted them removed and potentially replaced with smaller ones. After menopause and a 40-pound weight gain, I felt they looked matronly and only added to my overall chubbiness. Dr. Coan asked me questions in order to hone in on what was most important to me and to determine how to accomplish it. He made suggestions I had never thought of. He was patient and gave me options. I never felt pressured to do anything, he seemed happy to simply give me the information I needed to make a decision, whenever I decided to make one.
I had initially planned to get several opinions/consultations before doing anything, however, I was so impressed with Dr. Coan and his style, I decided to move forward with him. Rather than do it all at once, he offered to deflate my implants so I could see what that would look like before deciding if I just wanted them removed, or if I would like to have fat grafting done. It was a quick and painless procedure in the office. When I asked where he would get the fat to inject into my breasts, he smiled and his eyes twinkled as he replied, "Oh, I have some ideas about where I can get it." We agreed my flanks, or saddlebags, would be the best place.
I scheduled the surgery for the following week. I received regular communications from the staff and even the anesthesiologist prior to my appointment. On the morning of, the staff was again warm and reassuring. Dr. Coan met with me to talk through what he would be doing one more time to be sure we were all on the same page. When they brought me into the surgical suite, Dr. Coan asked me what music I would like to listen to. It is a small thing, but it was very thoughtful and helped me relax. It seemed like only seconds later I was opening my eyes and it was over.
The recovery was easier than I expected. I followed all of the instructions and I only needed something stronger than Advil for the first three nights to keep the pain at bay so I could sleep.
Going into the consultation, I never thought about liposuction on my saddlebags, or fat grafting. It seemed like an aside Dr. Coan mentioned, but it has delighted me! Before I went to him, I would not look at myself in the mirror, even with clothes on. Now I stand before the mirror and marvel at the way my hips look. My breasts are smaller than some would like, but my clothes look great on me and it is EXACTLY what I asked for. Since the surgery I have been motivated to diet and I have lost 17 pounds. I still have a ways to go, but I am energized to do it. I never thought I would say this, but even if I don't lose another pound, I am happy with the way I look.
I want to say something clever, like Dr. Coan is a wizard or a magician, but he isn't. He is a highly-skilled surgeon, who listens to patients, and takes the time to understand exactly what they are looking for and then he executes it flawlessly.
