Rude and hostile medical assistant
At my breast explant consultation on 1/3/23 with Dr. Becker he seems like a very kind and knowledgeable doctor. I've been to two doctors for explant consultations and I was very strongly leaning toward choosing Dr Becker to do my surgery. I received a call the day after my consultation from Dr Becker's medical assistant, Iwana (not sure of the spelling) with a verbal quote. BTW, she was very kind and personable during my initial consultation. I would have preferred an emailed estimate, but I guess that's not how they do it. A couple of months have gone by and I could not place my notes from the verbal quote Iwana gave me. An email to refer back to would have been helpful. Since my initial consultation I’ve done more research and have learned more about the procedure so I had additional questions. I called the front office and asked for my quote to be emailed to me. I explained I am doing further research and will have some questions organized soon. I asked the front desk gal if she knows if the doctor performs fat transfers to the breast after the implants are removed. She immediately transferred me to Iwana. I would have preferred if she asked me if I wanted to talk to Iwana, but instead she just transferred me. Since I was transferred so quickly and Iwana was now on the other end of the line I explained to her that I was working on organizing some questions about the implant capsule removal. She wanted to know what my questions were then and there. So I mention a couple that were at the top of my list, i wanted to know more about fat transfer and total capsulectomy. After a short discussion she asked me why I had so many questions and the capsule removal was clearly discussed by Dr Becker during my original consultation. I told her I have memory issues (which, by the way, is a symptom of Breast Implant Illness). I told her I'm 66 year old and I've been seen by a neurologist and have had 8 hours of testing with a neurologist for my memory. And I've been prescribed a memory supplement) Instead of showing compassion and understanding she continued to shame me for asking questions. I found it humiliating and hurtful. She also told me I was unkind. Three times I asked her how I was unkind, what did I say that was unkind. Each time she answered, I'm not gong to get into it with you. Not nice to accuse me of such a thing but can't tell me what I said that was unkind. I have never been treated so rudely by a medical assistant before. The sad thing is now she stands in the way of me choosing who I thought would be an exceptional doctor for me. I told her I think the doctor is excellent but I don't know how she and I could work together if I she's so offended and responds this way by me simply asking questions. I’ve now schedule my explant with an exceptional doctor in Miami. I believe my negative experience with this practice was a blessing in disguise.
