WORTH IT
I want to give my honest opinion of how things look and also how I feel. Physically I feel so much better, can sleep on my stomach and the burning sensation is gone. I am relieved to have the implants out.
Since I had the implants in for 29 years and the skin got thin I ended up with the creases across both breasts, I hoped that would go away but it didn't. During the healing my left nipple got infected because of thin skin I think and after that healed it is gone. I really get sad about the way I look, I wish I would never have gotten the implants all those years ago. I don't mean to scare anyone off about doing explant surgery, because I saw so many of you have very nice looking results. I don't want to post pictures but I think I described it well enough and I did see that some other women had similar results.
My husband is so supportive and he said he is fine with how I look. He always worried the implants would make me sick, and now we know I won't ever get sick from them.

Hi, I would really like to see your final results. I am someone, who has the removal still before and the first augmentation is 27 years ago. I have seen here so many results in any direction, so I can imagine how it will look, certainly worse;)..but that is the truth..:)

I don't see that you have shared any pictures? I don't understand your ;) wink. Or the reason for "truth. :). " It sounds like you've been through this site and "seen many results" so your curiosity to see mine is quite curious??? Especially since you haven't shared any pictures or surgery stories.

Hi, I just got my 31 year old silicone breast implants removed Oc 8th 2019. I don't regret getting them removed but wish my results were better too. I realize its just been 5 weeks today but after reading your results a year later I'm not too hopeful. I too have a strange crease on the left breast with the right nipple is still sunken in. My PS said at my 2 week visit I should see significant improvemnt 3-4 weeks from that point but I just have not seen anything significant in my opinion. My next appointment is 11/18 so will see what he says then. Yes better then day 2 when the compression bandage came off but nothing significant thus far. Like you I wish I had never gotten them either in my 30's.

Hi, I read about some ladies here doing massage and when I asked about that at my post op appointment I was told it didn't help anything. I wonder now if massage could stop crease from forming. I was A cup before and was hoping I'd have better results since I only had C cup implants. Maybe ask about massage at next appointment. I'm not regretting getting implants removed because the burning and sensitivity around implants is gone. I don't want to do fat transfers but if a surgery to remove creases is an option maybe I'd do that. I really don't mind being small breasted because it's sexy or in style once again,it's just the creases that sadden me. The spots where implants sat that made dents are gone now. My chest is still tender. It seem like women who had larger breasts before had better explant results. Think of the good things now, when we get chest X-rays because of flu the tech won't see that you have implants. When we hug people don't have to wonder if they feel the firm boobs. So many other health reasons now that I'm older I don't have to worry that breast cancer will go undetected because implants are in the way. I don't know your body shape but I'm happy with my lean athletic shape. I'm exercising more now. I quit smoking a month before explant surgery so I'm all about looking and feeling healthy. Smoke free over a Year!! We just need to embrace that we are healthier with the implants gone. If your PS tells you how we could improve the creases without new implants or fat transfers please share. You are early in your recovery so be hopeful ok Be proud you made right decision.

i am scared because I am having 32 year old implant removal Jan 2020....and i have no natural breast tissue of my own. the radiologist at the time of mammogram remarked that in all her years doing that job she had never seen a big girl like me so flat chested. I was sarky back saying "well why do you think I had augmentation". Then my surgeon said " do you realize you will be horribly disfigured after the explant. Howz your Head Space ??". So i am sure I will look way worse than you coz you do have your own breast now and a dinky waist. The surgeon that will be doing me is top in her field, just a pity I cannot afford a lift or fat transfers but HEY YEH I will be HEALTHIER !! thank you for posting your story...gives me hope.

Hi, That comment from the radiologist was so unprofessional!! I'd of found something less than perfect on her and said maybe you should consider a ex: nose job lol And then for the surgeons bed side manner telling you now disfigured you could be. I'm so sorry you had to have people talk to you that way. I didn't have much breast tissue either to begin with that's why I went for augmentation too, like you. I feel the description of disfigured would apply to me now too. I just had an MRI and the radiologist asked if I had any implants in my body and I got to say 'Nope!! It's the little things that will make you happy once your surgery is over. Anyway I'm glad you stood up to that radiologist. Don't let people get away with that.

Hello Prairie.....well done on your PURE U MRI !! I wont get that as I have plenty nuts n bolts in my spine LOL. Yep the radiologist was amused by my lack of mammies, which i thought quite cheeky. The surgeon however was trying to make me face reality and she asked if I want to do reconstruction, as she works with cancer patients mostly, but I said I do not have $16K to do fat transfer etc. so she changed the subject. Maybe I may wake up with Dolly Partons by some miracle, but I doubt it ! hahahaha.

My PS said I did not have much natural breast tissue which I agreed with cause I was a 32A before implants but his nurse said youd be surprised how much you really do have at my age 64. After removal I do have some breast tissue and I think some excess skin. I'm just 7 weeks post explant and I can tell you its worth it no matter what you have left. I am learning to cope with with I have left which is all we can do. No more surgeries for me.

I am faced with the same situation-mine have been in 31 years and have to come out, both are actually torn open. I didn't and don't have much breast tissue, hence the reason the surgeon originally put them on top of the muscle I have been told by current surgeon that will be removing them. I have thought about having these horrible "bricks" replaced with new smaller ones along with a lift but the more I read from others they opt to not have replacement implants...I'm afraid I will end up looking like "Olive Oil" from the Popeye cartoons...I do know that I haven't felt good for several months now and with silicone floating around my tissues I can't help but think it's the reason I haven't felt good. I plan on having them out in late January 2019.

hi! I too had the over the muscle implants. There were small indents where the implants set but thankfully those do go away. I would suggest maybe to take a look at a online company " Athleta", they have post mastectomy bras and inserts. Also a company "LuLalu".
Good luck in January, you will feel better getting them out of your body.

Dear Diligent, mine too have ruptured and they are solidly hard and burn all the time. I laughed at your Olive Oil mention...hahahaa....it is that sense of humour that will carry you through. I am trying to focus on how "free" i felt prior to augmentation....wearing what we liked, being healthy and all goods things, but I am worried as living in a hot climate with pools and beaches how i will hide being an ironing board in a costume. Never mind we are resourceful and will make a plan. My thirty plus daughter is having hers removed on the 16th Dec and she was surprised to learn that the silicone has invaded her armpit lymph glands and so her surgery may be a little more intricate. She has had hers in for 10 years but has lovely skin tone, unlike me, so she will be fine. I am sure that you have not felt well due to the breast implants just like my daughter and I. Hopefully we will all feel terrific, have a lot more energy and less aches and pains in the future. Keep us in touch with your healing journey. Good luck Diligent xx

Yesterday I got the drains out. I don’t have to wear sports bra for the reason of compression anymore. Remember I had very little breast tissue before implants so that could be why. My breasts are not pretty right now but in time they will look almost like before i got implants is what I’m told by PS. I go back for a 6 weeks check up. I’m doing well, it’s so great to have those things off my chest. I’m glad it’s Fall/Winter so I can wear layers as I get use to my new look. I’m shopping online for camisoles and bras with pockets for inserts in case I feel like I might need something like that.
In December I have to repeat an MRI on my spine. A calcified tumor was found on my T10 near my spinal column. 2 Drs don’t think this calcification came from implants but I do. Too much of a Coincidence don’t you think??? This isn’t only area calcification is being found. This was another reason I got my implants removed. I want to be as healthy as I can.

Day 4 since explant surgery

I use an ace bandage around waist area to safety pin drains to. Sports bra from Walmart brand Aviva size Large. Before explant bra size was 36C. I’m not brave enough to post a picture of my bare breasts yet. I think most women waited until things looked better. I’m hopeful I won’t have too much drooping which I’ve written about already.

Congratulations Prarie56, sounds like your recovery is going quite smoothly and you are happy with your decision! That’s encouraging for those of us who are not quite there yet ;) I had my consult today and will update my journal in the next day or two once I’ve had a chance to gather my thoughts and reign in my emotions. Thank you for the updates and please continue to let us know how you are doing.

Yes, thank you, Prairie56, for being brave and sharing your story with us! I am wanting my 18-year-old saline implants out for the longest time, and finally met with 2 PS and am considering a third. However, my significant other is going in for a prostate biopsy this week and we are pretty sure we are going to being dealing with a cancer situation, so I am having to put my removal on the back burner. Hopefully, January or February at the latest. I will be following your progress. I know my breasts are going to be very deflated and saggy when the bags come out, but I am not doing anything more than having them and the capsules out...I just want to be me again! Good luck in your continued journey ~ I'm so glad you are feeling better and you are content with your decision. Brava!
