Implant removal after 20 years.

WORTH IT
Hi all! Best thing I ever did was remove these implants. I’m more confident and comfy in my clothes. Makes me look more svelte. The only problem is that I don’t have much fat, so after removal we tried to add fat to fill them out, but it didn’t work, so they are quite deflated. I’m married and my husband doesn’t care, so I’m not making a big deal about it. I do wish there was some way to fill them just a little bit though.

Got the consult appointment!

Hi everyone! So I just booked my consult with Dr. Pozner in Boca who has received stellar reviews here on Real Self. He has done quite a number of removals under local and all is patients have been satisfied with their results. My appointment is in 3 weeks. I’m so thrilled! If all goes well and I’m a candidate for local removal, I pray he can get me in the next day!

Does anyone know why one would not be a candidate for local removal of the implants? Mine are 320ish cc saline under the muscle and I do not have capsular contracture. Just curious if anyone knew.

Capsular contracture would be the only think I can think of. If you do not have capsules removed you should be able to have a local.
1 thing I will mention is when my friend had her implant removed he deflated her implants then he took them out. Her scared were very tiny . My doctor did not deflate and took mine out whole and my scar is a lot bigger. Also ask him about muscle repair if needed.
Depends on the thickness of tye capsule. Tye risk is that it wont close and may refill with fluid (seroma), which would he painful, can lead to infection etc. Chances are after 20 years yours arent super thin, but it all depends on your body and how it has responded. I uad mine removed and capsules not completely removed. I had several layers of capsule and ky surgeon was too lazy to do tue work. He tolde they were out. Ill tell you i felt the scar tissue in tyere. I went in for a lift 7 minyhs later and tyat surgeon said he removed tue capsules...i mever told him my former dr said he removed them intil after..smh. i also noticed significant uptick in energy amd less inflammation when the capsule was out. If you have any autoimmune issues in your family ive found tye silicoje in the capsule can be problematic. Aside from all of that i think if you arent experiencing health issues there seems to he a greater chance of a better post surgical aesthetic outcome if theyre left, especually of you yave thin or little breast tissue.
Sorry about all of those typos. Wow...
Yes I agree with above post...capsulectomy is best. From what I have read the muscle repair is better and the breast tissue can re-attach to your chest wall better . Of course the doctors don’t like to do it because it’s a lot of extra work my plastic surgeon explained it like “pulling wet tissue paper out of your rib cage and pec muscles” and I have heard a lot of women say that they had to go back and have surgery again just to get the capsule out because they had problems with it so I chose to have Capsulectomy with my ex plant. I am two weeks postop today and I cannot be happier that I did this . Went to pick up my implants today from pathology and they are covered in aspergillus mold and the implants themselves are cloudy and yellow. And I only had them for six years ! Anyway if you’re having any problems like mine had then the mold and other issues are embedded in the capsules so I would recommend having the capsules removed as well. I have had back pain issues that have resolved as well as anxiety and other mental issues resolved even just in two weeks . Migraines have not resolved however... hoping that with time and detox migraines will get better ! Anyway good luck to you I cannot express how glad I am that I got mine out I look and feel 10 years younger. And my husband likes my new old boobs even better.
I had mine removed almost 1 year ago. They were 300cc saline under muscle and I had them for 7 years. I did. Not have any problems with them but just did not want them anymore. They removed under general anesthesia Incase he felt any capsule needed to be removed. It was very thin and did not need to be removed. I have had no problems and have healed very well. I workout out regularly and have returned to same intensity as I did before I had them removed.
Even though it might not be enough to cause pain, It looks like you do have a bit of contracture around your implants. If you suspect health issues get the capsules out. I had two surgeries. My capsules were removed the second one and my symptoms are 99 percent resolved. Also gets rid of the risk of seroma down the line. If the pockets don’t close they can become fluid filled and need one or multiple manual aspirations to drain. Congrats on your decision. It feels so good to be natural. I’m excited for you. Good luck.

Implant removal after 20 years

Hello everyone. I am looking to obtain some feedback on removal of my 20 yr old 320cc saline implants. I’m in my late thirties, tall, slender and briefly breast fed my kids. I’m a little concerned about breast implant illness and whether it is the source of the chronic neck pain I’ve been experiencing for the past 18 years, as well as depression and anxiety that all pretty much started 3 years after I got the implants (and i still struggle with this today). I know there isn’t much medical data supporting breast implant illness, but so many girls who’ve explanted have described improvement in their mental state and chronic aches so I’m very hopeful.
I can’t wait to get these foreign bags out of my body. For the past 10 years, I’ve been covering them up by wearing high neck sports bras and halter top swim suits only. I have tossed all v-necks, round necks and string bikinis out the window. It’s all about minimizing and hiding these lumps that no longer feel “normal” to me. Who would have thought I’d come back full circle toward embracing my once-so-hated little tatas? I guess it was something I needed to experience. II’m very interested in getting them removed under local anesthesia as some members here have described. I do not want a breast lift or smaller implants.Major concern: Having a mega anxiety attack if i see two deflated floppy sacs hanging down my chest immediately post-op. It seems skin tightening tends to occur in most women at about 4 weeks, so I’m clinging on to that hope.Any support, advice and surgeon recommendations would be greatly appreciated. I’m in South Florida. Thank you all!

Hey I have had the same symptoms, had mine done back in 2009, 7 months later became ill, anxiety moody fatigued suffered candida bacterial infections numbness puns and needles dry hair and skin thinning hair the list goes on, I went to see a breast surgeon yesterday who said everything looks fine and that she's heard about bil and she hears me but to have further tests with a neurological surgeon but I just want these out, I would never of thought it was caused through my implants but I'm pretty sure it stems from them
Your story could have been mine. We seem to have similar breast size and experiences of health issues as well as wishes for our outcome after explant. I’m scheduled for september 11th (horrible date). Haven’t had the courage to write down my story just yet as I’m not living in an english speaking country so the language is a bit of a barrier. My best advice is to read as many stories here as you have energy for and to see different surgeouns to get a second opinion of their advice.
Tloop good luck with your surgery!
I got my implant 2003 and I had my them for 15 year and just had them removed February 21,2018 under local. My neck pain, upper back pain and head aches are gone. Recovery was a So easy and my breast may be small but I love them and they look better than I could have ever imagined. How many cc’s are in your implants?
Never mind I just saw the size of implants.
Hi! I can’t believe your aches and pains are gone! I mean do you think it’s legitimately physical or psychosomatic? Whatever it is, I hope I get the same relief you got. How deflated were your breasts after the procedure? Was it worrisome? I’m concerned, I’ll feel extremely frightened with my appearance soon after surgery. But I really don’t want a breast lift.
It was legitimately physical. For 15 years I had this constant burning from my bra line up into my shoulder, neck and head. I had headaches almost on a daily basis. I also could not hold my shoulder back because of the pulling and heaviness of the implants. I did not know that explant was even an options until my friend had hers removed. She told me because she knew I would notice and she knew I had implants...lol!
I kid you not since the day I walked out of surgery, the issues I had is gone. I have only had couple headaches but nothing major.
I am 5’3” and 100 lbs. and yes I was concerned that I would have no breast tissue left and yes they were very deflated pancakes at first and very squishy. I was pleasantly surprised with time how much they improved and changed for the better and they continue to change. I was more concerned about being seriously deformed but I wanted them out of my body.

FYI...I bought Genie bras small and I take out the pads. Also at Kohl’s they sell jockey bras and they are really nice too. Jockey brand are costly but they are actually my favorite.

I wish I would have done this years ago.
Omg! Your story makes me so optimistic! I want to get this ASAP! How heavy were your implants? I would imagine the back and neck pain being the result of very large breasts (like double D’s), but then again extra weight on your chest is extra weight pulling against your neck and back so it could make total sense. I really hope my story unravels like yours. As I write this right now, I am begging my husband to massage my neck again. He is very frustrated with my aches that no doctor can seem to figure out. I think at this point we are both willing to do anything. Did you have your implants out under local or general?
Now it was like a nightmare and I finally woke up...lol! The first time I got my implants was February 2003. PS talked me into High profile and put 375 cc’s. I hated them from day one. December 2003 my right implant deflated. He opened up the left side and reduced the amount of saline from 375 to 325 and replaced the right deflated implant. After the surgery Every time I layed down my right implant went to the side by my armpit. I had a very difficult time shaving my armpits...lol! I was so dissatisfied I went back to see what could be done. July 2004 I had surgery again and he completely replaced implants with mentor smooth round 325 cc’s. He tried to repair the pocket on the right breast with no luck. Not only did the implant fall to the arm pit when I layed down it now dropped down on my rib cage and it hurt. I had to wear a sports bra too 24/7. I could not sleep without a bra because I had to hold them in place.

The day he took them out he said they weighted around 2 lbs. i think the reason. They felt so heavy was 1) I do not weight very much and 2)the left implant was kind of stuck and was hard to moved and the right implant was a floater which made them feel heavy.

I refused to be put to sleep. I wanted a local. They will strap your arm down so you can not move but I could not be strapped down because I was to small. He numbed me up and used a tool that cut and cauterized at the same time and he got a hold of them with his fingers popped them out. I was out of there in 40 minutes. For 10 days you can not move your arms or as little as possible. I wore sport bras for 3 weeks so fluid would not fill in the empty space. I did not have drains but some doctors use drains. Best decision I ever made and I say go for it.

The doctor that took out my implants I found on this website. Keep me updated.
A big huge thank you for sharing enya21 and kennabug. I have the same burning feeling around my bra line and shoulder and have been trying everything from massage to physiotherapist and a naprapath who put electrodes attached on my muscles for stimulation. Nothing have worked. I have learned to live with this constant feeling of pressure and nagging ”sensitivity” inside my body. The other day I spoke to my husband about it and tried to describe with a pen and paper where and what it feels like in my body - everyday - and he was amazed. He could not belive that I simply live with it but it has become my normal status and I have thought Im out of hope to get rid of it. I was so Happy to read your Stories! I do Wish I will feel the same in 2 weeks after explant!
Tloop, my husband is also in awe of how much pain I’ve been in all these years. I’ve gotten pretty accustomed to it though. I chucked it up to bad posture, stress and depression. I almost came close to taking medication for fibromyalgia because anti-depressants and ibuprofen every day were not cutting it. Now I manage it with massage, cold and heat therapy and occasional muscle relaxants combined with anti-inflammatories. It’s a normal “abnormal” for me. I think explant is a double win. If it can improve these symptoms AND bring our boobs back to their normal and NATURAL state then why not? Are you getting yours out under local? You can’t imagine how self conscious I am about these bags. I never wear anything that may show an inkling of cleavage. Only t-shirts and high neck tops and dresses. Bikinis are out of the question! More like long sleeve surfer rash guards! And, although no longer an issue I face, having to tell a new boyfriend I have implants before he figures it out is overwhelmingly humiliating. I’m so done with all of this...
I have capsular contracture so I must have an anesthetic procedure. Unfortunately. So scared of the mere thought of being put to sleep. Reading about your way of dressing down the breast size and feeling ashamed of the implants could also be mine. During the first years after my enlargement I enjoyed the perks of having bigger boobs but as soon as my mind grew into it I started to feel embarassed about it. Today I’m self conscious and afraid to be judged for my shallowness. Especially since my values have changed over time. Not meaning to be mean to anyone else having implants and being happy as a clamp about it but I feel like a more stupid version of myself, not a more beautiful one with these toxic bags. Today I look at women with small/petit chests and feel envy. I do not think I will regret taking them out as long as I wont look totally deformed. Is there anything one can do resultvise except of hoping for the best?
There is a ton of data on BII. These devices maie a lot of people a lot of money so... Removing mine made the mosy dramatic improvement in my health. No more blurry vision. My mental clarity improved multiplicatively. No more achy joints, puffy eyes, sinus amd yeast infections.... No more sleeping for 9 hours every night and waking up tired. Its literally unreal. I have nothing to profit from my story. I swear if i would have known 26 years ago i would jever have made thst uealth trade off. The wprst part is, i knew i felt bad....i jist didnt realize how sick they were making me until they were out and i felt 20 years old again..good luck on your journey.
Hi lisa0714, what are your thoughts on BII? Do you really think it’s a true disease? Did you have your capsules removed? Does that make a difference with BII? I want your option please. Thanks!
The new MD Anderson Cancer Center study couldn't mirror my thoughts better. Yes for me it was real. I trusted my replant surgeon would remove capsules amd he did not. I would never have known had I not had a different surgeon perform a lift six months later. He told me he removed several capsules during the 4 hour procedure. Anyways all symptoms resolved almost immediately.

Chronic sinus infections
Virus magnet
Joint pain in fingers wrists and feet
Blurry vision
Foggy brain
Debilitating fatigue
Systemic inflammation
Yeast infections
I literally thought I was dying of some cancer tgey couldn't identify. I felt 25 again... Maybe 20 and it happened quick. Two years out now and not one sinus infection. I didn't even get the flu when it hit our house hard last year. Everything better. Poison they are. I felt half hetter after surgery one but 100percent with capsules out.
