I got implants after exclusively breast feeding 3 kids. I was very small before that and only sz 34a while breast feeding. My first saline set ruptured within 2 years, although my surgeon said there was tissue in the valve (partially true, but my surgical report that I obtained 17 years later indicated a tear as well). I was told to get silicone after the saline set, although I wanted them out without replacement. I was somehow convinced under pressure and entered in a “study” and implanted with the double-lumen McGhan 153’s, which I later learned were removed from the market due to their high rupture rate. I was never notified of this. The revised rupture rate is currently 49%, and I had them for 12 years. They were also textured, which put me at a higher risk of ALCL. I went to my surgeon and requested removal without replacement because they were 12 years old. (At this time I still didn’t know they were removed from the market. I learned this much later during a Google search). I was told this would be like a mastectomy experience and was implanted with smooth Sientra implants. I asked if the McGhans were ruptured and was told, to my face, no. A few years later I learned I could obtain my surgical report. I received the reports for all 3 surgeries, and according to the notes, my McGhans were ruptured. Not only that, but the capsules were not removed when the Sientras were implanted. He also noted that “patient wanted them removed without replacement” and I was still encouraged to get another set. I immediately found a new surgeon and had the Sientras removed, along with the capsules. The surgeon stitched my muscle down, which he said was important so I wouldn’t have the animation you show in your video. (Just wanted you to know about this). I am extremely small now and my bra size is 34aaa. I had 3 sets of implants over 19 years, and the Sientras were the only ones not ruptured after almost 5 years. You look great! I’m so glad to be rid of mine.
Why did you remove your Sientras? Where there any issues with them?
I am looking to get some implants and the Sientras come highly recommended.
Thank you.
I removed the Sientras because I was constantly stressed about another rupture. I also don’t want to get surgery every 10 years to replace them, since they are not lifetime devices. My second set was the textured McGhan 153’s with a 49% rupture rate and also the type that causes ALCL cancer. My new surgeon indicated that the cancer may start in the biofilm of the capsule. He said the capsules needed to come out, so I had the Sientras removed without replacement, along with the capsules. I am currently size 34 aaa but I’m happy without the stress!
PS The breast implant illness Instagram gives tons of info, pics, and stories from many women. It is very informative and helpful as you make your decision!
They honestly look so much better.
Do you have any recommendations for a 2 weeks post op bra
