Explant After Breast Implant Illness

I have been suffering with random health issues. I went to many specialists for the various health issues (heart palpitations, stroke-like symptoms, chronic fatigue, autoimmune like issues, sinuses issues, neurological issues, hair loss, and many more). I narrowed down the source of my problem to my breast implants. I went to see Dr. Marc Polecritti and booked the surgery right then. I knew he was the one for me. I had consults with others and they did not believe in breast implant illness. He does and he is amazing. I am one day post op.

Hi there! Happy healing to you! I am 13 days post op. I had 23+ year implants explanted with total capsulectomy. I too have many BII symptoms. I am already seeing changes. I am keeping a journal, so that I can remember exactly when some of my symptoms went away. Take it easy after surgery. I’m 50 and days 1-3 were the worst, but tolerable. I’ve had my days full of energy, followed by days needing only rest. Even on the days you feel your best, limit what you think you can do. My husband and children have been so helpful and supportive. This website has been great to read other women’s reviews. The best supportive group I have found is on FB “Breast Implant and Healing by Nicole”. Lots of information there, and support. Good luck to you on this journey and God bless!

I am 6 days post op today and I have experienced the same as you. Days feeling fantastic and days feeling just as bad as before. I am grateful for your response and support! I started to cry reading your message. This Breast Implant Illness is real! The day of my surgery as I got into my car I noticed I could breathe out of both nostrils and have been ever since. I know the healing is a process and will take some time and I look forward to that. Keeping a journal is actually very smart. I believe I will do that as well. Thank you so much! Please keep me posted on your progress. I pray for your full and speedy recovery!

Yes, I believe BII is very real! I’m not sure how many of my symptoms are from BII, but am very excited to see which ones actually do go away. My implants were saline over the muscle. My post op pics showed that the implants looked to have mold inside of them. My left side ruptured in March, (during the COVID scare in full swing) so I wasn’t able to see the PS until May, explanted June 10th. (So I’m thinking, great, all of that moldy looking fluid has been running through my body! Yikes!) He did a total capsulectomy as well. I’m going to detox my body, not only from the silicon implant shell that held the saline, but also from mold. So many of my illnesses make so much sense now. I don’t have any autoimmune diseases, but many others, from rashes to unexplained weight gain, headaches, joint pain, heart attack symptoms, shoulder blade and collar bone pain, gastrointestinal issues, and the list goes on. So far I’ve noticed rash, headaches, joint pain, shoulder blade and collar bone pain is gone. My fingernails are growing like crazy and are really white now (didn’t realize my nails were affected until I saw the change in color and growth!). My biggest concern is waiting to see if it helps with the “heart attack” symptoms I was having. It would feel like someone was standing on my chest, arms, jaw, back would hurt. I’ve had EKG’s, Echo Cardiograms, Stress test 3 different times over the last 8 years. All came out normal. Dr. was thinking panic attacks, gave me meds for that, which I never took, not even one. Then Dr said sounds like gastrointestinal issues and I could be having esophageal spasms. Put me on Nexium. It helped, but still had episodes. I learned to just focus and breathe through them. I think it had everything to do with my implants, maybe my chest muscles, or the scar tissue causing problems my pressing on something it shouldn’t have been?? But I too noticed how good it felt to take a deep breath after explant. I didn’t realize that until after explant either! Also my sternum literally hurt to touch it, like it was bruised, and the bones near my implants ached, but that is no longer happening either! Initially, I chalked a lot of my health issues to getting older, and just dealing with it, but even though I’m 50, I’ve stayed active, exercise 3-4 times a week and eat very well. Couldn’t figure out my weight gain of 35 ponds and why the scales weren’t moving. Hormones tested and I was low on estrogen, was also going through menopause with hot flashes. Started taking estrogen and progesterone orally. Helped with the hot flashes, but didn’t touch my weight issues. After the rupture in March, I started researching it and came across BII. Showed my husband and he was like, wow! For me, I know my breast implants have been the culprit, just not sure how long it’s going to take to get my health back. Months? Years? But after already seeing results, I’m very hopeful!
Btw, not sure if you had/have drains, but I was super scared to get those removed and it was so quick and easy! So rest easy if you have them and are worried about the removal, as many women have been from some post I’ve read!
Thank you for your prayers and am praying for you as well with your recovery and a healthy and happy future! We are more than our breast! :)

I had my silicone implants put in in 2012. In 2016, I was diagnosed with GERD and allergies. I thought the same as you, that it was just aging and body changing. I went on medication for the GERD and over the counter allergy medication. I was fine until 2018, when I got pregnant with my fourth baby. He was born in August, I somewhat breastfed (mixed breast milk with formula) and decided to stop torturing myself after one and a half months. I wasn't really producing milk and the pumping was extremely painful. November 1st I was sitting on the couch and felt like I was dying. My oldest son drove me to the urgent care. They thought I was having a stroke. I was devastated. I was 41, in good health, always have been healthy and active, and now I was faced with this with a new baby. I was admitted into the hospital for observation. I, too, was tested for everything EKG, brain scans, etc. All normal results. I felt physically terrible ever since. I bounced around from GI doctors, to primary care doctors, to Neurologists, etc. I've had MRI and CAT scans, blood was tested for pretty much everything, autoimmune test, all normal results. The GI doctor thought that I had Celiac (gluten intolerance). I had a colonoscopy and an endoscopy and wore a heart monitor for 14 days. I started getting new food allergies, which I never had before. My finger tips would get hot and numb. Hair would fall out in enormous clumps (some of this may be related to childbirth). I suffered with autoimmune like symptoms. I felt like I was dying. I went to the ER three times. The last trip to the ER I swear was my first full blown panic attack that mimicked a heart attack. I had inflammation of my lower abdomen that the ER doctor could not figure out why I had that. Goodness, my list could go on. My sister kept saying look into Breast Implant Illness. I blew that off thinking I had something more sinister. I took Breast Implant Illness seriously after my colonoscopy and endoscopy came back with all normal results. I had had it by then. Every time I thought I this is it the doctors are going to find the reason I have been in a living hell...normal results. I started researching BII and found Dr. Polecritti and had them out when everything opened back up from this virus. I am looking forward to the healing.

I do have drains and on day 7 of having them they are driving me nuts :). Thank you for your support! I am here for you as well. I will listen to your feelings etc., because Lord knows I have been told "it's all in my head" or "I am suffering with anxiety" and I've been given anti-anxiety meds (i refused to take them). I also had a consultation with a doctor in Tampa. When I heard her basically say she didn't believe the illness is related to my symptoms, I hung and said to myself - you are not the surgeon for me.
