Breast Explant and Lift

At 51 years old, I’m getting my 550cc implants removed and having a breast lift at the same time. I got the implants a few months before my 40th birthday, with no lift which I really needed even back then. Prior to augmentation I was a 34C but after breastfeeding 2 kids, and also experiencing weight gains and losses over the years, they were sagging! With the implants I am 36DD. The original surgeon did recommend a lift, but as I wanted to avoid too much scarring, suggested going with a larger implant to create a “ natural lift”. Ha! There wasn’t much naturalness to these oversized boobs! Hubby and I enjoyed them to begin with but for the past few years I’ve been fantasizing about getting rid of them. More recently I’ve developed some contracture of my left breast, so much so that I can’t comfortably wear a bra any longer. But for the past few years anyway, I’ve just not felt comfortable with how large my breasts are, not to mention that they just don’t suit my active lifestyle. I love to run and do yoga, both activities definitely hindered by having enormous boobs!
Things which have made me want them removed include back and neck pain, contracture of my left breast, and pain and stiffness in my hands and feet. All these things built up over the past 2-3 years, and as of late last year I reached the point where I cannot wear a bra for more than a couple of hours before having unbearable neck and shoulder pain. Most days I just go without one.
A couple of months ago I started researching explant and lift procedures as well as local surgeons. I went to a consultation at Toronto Cosmetic Clinic and Clinic 360 after seeing excellent reviews of both these clinics. I chose Clinic 360 because the consultation with Dr Plant just made me feel more confident that I’d see better results. Firstly, the consultation at TCC was with a nurse consultant, not the doctor. She was very knowledgeable however it felt a lot more like a sales job, and she measured me from the breast bone down to the nipple and spoke about the measurement they use to determine the lift part of the procedure. Fast forward to the consultation a week later with Dr Plant at Clinic 360, and although he measured me as well, he spoke about how he doesn’t use a standard measured distance to determine the lift, rather it is measured from the breast crease up. As he said, not everyone’s breasts/nipples start off at the same point, so it’s not the best approach for creating a natural result. Instead, he marks you up of course, and after he’s removed the implants and any capsule necessary (my left breast requires this, however likely not the right one) he then sits you up on the table to determine a more natural positioning of the nipple. Makes sense to me! Surgery is scheduled for June 10 with Dr Plant, and I couldn’t be more excited! Can’t wait to get my small boobs back!
