Breast Implant Removal

WORTH IT$1,000
I have had my implants for approximately 7 years. I am now 55, have gained weight, developed an auto immune disease and was uncomfortable with the size 36E. Based upon those factors, I decided on a consult with the Plastic Surgeon who performed the augmentation. After our meeting and careful consideration, I decided to opt to have them removed. I chose to have the procedure performed in office and not to include remove of the capsule. Procedure was yesterday and was very easy. I first received numbing injections to the base of the breast, which was a tight pinch. After 15 minutes, the surgeon came back in, made a small incision on my existing scar and removed the left implant. I only felt a bit of pressure and then relief when it was removed. I had the smallest implants possible to augment a lift in my 40's. However, when I saw that implant come out of me I thought "that is huge and I can't believe I carried that in my breast". It was a point of clarity for me. The right implant was a little more difficult to remove, but still was painless. A few stitches under each breast and I was on my way. The whole experience was approximately 30 minutes. I feel free and so relieved. I don't have any evidence that the implants were related to my current health issues (since no conclusive research exists). However, one of my physicians put it this way, what if there was a 1% chance it is related? That was the perspective I needed. I also felt since I gained 20 lbs after menopause (I was always very thin at a size 2 or 4 and now am a size 8) and felt my breasts were huge and tried to hide them under loose clothing and shirts. It became increasingly difficult to find shirts that fit and I will look forward to being able to wear my button down shirts again. Came home to catch the news and the FDA's official warning on the news last night affirming that implants should come with a warning. That reassured me I have done the right thing. I am concerned what my breasts will look like but have faith my surgeon is correct in that they will fluff up and look normal after time. No down time for me, back to work today, feel great, gym tomorrow. This was the perfect option for me and although I would not usually post something like this I felt if it helped one of you reading this to make your decision it was worth it, as I found real self reviews very helpful and reassuring in my decision process.
Will post pictures shortly.

I'm glad to hear your doing well. I truly believe my implants are causing me my health issues. My one doctor offered to remove them under local. Yet I'm still undecided because I hear your supposed to remove the capsules when your sick from them, but it's so expensive. I thought about just removing the implants awake and possibly going back later if I'm sick and doing the capsules. At this point I feel strongly it's my breast that are causing all my sicknesses. Hope you fluff up nice, that's what I'm concerned about.

I understand and share your concern. I opted for the most simple solution for removal. I have no regrets, my chest feels so much lighter and overall outwardly, it has had little effect on my overall appearance. I am back to exercising and feeling good. Some explants can be covered by insurance, especially if you have a physician that is willing to support that opinion. Best to you in your decision.

You don't feel that removing the capsule as well is necessary? Big difference between 1,800 and 4,800 dollars. They say you MUST have a capsulectomy but are you happy with just the implant only coming out?

i had a follow up with the PS today. She states that the tissue in the capsule is very healthy. She does not feel that removal of the capsule is necessary for everyone. However, she did state that she would recommend it for textured implants given the recent evidence presented on these. In addition to the cost, it was much easier with no down time. Surgery with general anesthesia, recuperation from the surgery and cost were all considerations for me. It has been two weeks, I feel great, lighter and happier with my appearance. No regrets, nor do I feel the need for capsule removal. My PS charges $500 per breast for removal. She made a small incision and cleaned up the scar from the implant surgery. This was a win win for me. Everyone is different, but if you are unsure, I would advise a second opinion. I also found other reviews on this site to be helpful and educational in my decision. Best to you.

Before and after Brest implant removal in office procedure. Minimally invasive and no down time. I am pleased with the results so far. Wearing a sports bra helps the odd feeling left from the settling and loss of volume.

Just a local anesthetic. It really was painless. Four days out and still no pain.
