Continuing to Improve the New Me!

Ten months ago I was searching for a surgeon to explant my severely hardened 33 year old implants. I was recommended to Dr. Holcombe from the radiologist who had performed my mammograms. I had been suffering from capsular contracture for many years and it had become unbearable! After meeting Dr. Holcombe I knew he was the right surgeon for me. On September 13, 2018, Dr. Holcombe performed a bilateral capsulectomy, mastopexy, and areola reduction. I felt better I immediately in recovery after removing the rock hard implants out of my chest. My discomfort was minimal and my breasts were greatly improved!! I went from a 38D with implants to a much smaller 36 A-B. I knew that after healing I would like to further the improvement with a Breast Fat Transfer. Because of the severe capsular contracture, Dr. Holcombe wanted to make this a two part surgery. He felt that limiting the fat from 100-150 cc’s per breast gave the fat a far greater chance of survival. I had the first fat grafting from my abdomen just 11 days ago. Very little bruising and discomfort. The worst part was the incredibly tight compression garment that I wore 24/7 for the first week. I now have to wear it for 12 hours a day for the next 1-2 weeks. I now have upper pole fullness where the was none and a flatter stomach! So excited to continue this journey and look and feel better than I have in many years!! For the record I am 60 years old, 5’6.5” and 150 lbs. I will be posting photos soon! I hope this is helpful to someone considering this for their health and happiness!! Dr. Holcombe is amazing and a wonderful Dr. to work with!!

Hi Shezzy23! I did two separate surgeries. I removed the implants and capsules and did a lift September 2018. I waited and did a fat grafting July 2019. My fat has held very well and it has now been almost 2 months. I am thinking of doing a second transfer . Wishing you all the best!!!

I have a few very small bumps that the P.A. feels will be absorbed. They have gotten smaller. Other than that I think that I have retained all the fat after the swelling went down. My stomach has really smoothed out from the liposuction the past couple weeks too! :)

These photos illustrate the journey which began 33 years ago with my first breast augmentation of double lumen silicone implants over the muscle. Over the years with two pregnancies, the appearance of my breasts went from bad to worse. Capsular contracture developed several years ago with my breasts becoming harder and harder. As you can see from the photos, not only were my implants encased in malformed shells but one implant turned black.

Hi there. You looked amazing day 1 of explant!! Even without the fat transfer, your breasts looked great. Congratulations on your journey. I can’t wait to be in a position to explant mine which are 23 years old. It’s time. Just getting up the nerve. Thanks for sharing.

Do you feel like you regretted getting them in the first place ?

Hi Jojess1200! I had no idea when I put the implants in 1985 that they had an expiration date. I am so grateful to my surgeon for giving me youthful looking breasts at this point in my life!

I am scheduled for my surgery on the 5th of October ! And I know that they have an expiration date, am afraid I might regret it later on! That's why I was asking for your feedback

I am sold on fat transfer. It is your very own tissue that does not give you the problems that implants can. if you look at my photos you can see what a very old (33 year old) implant can look like. I am very happy to answer any questions you may have!!

I met with my Plastic Surgeon yesterday to review my fat transfer and retention. I do have some small lumps in my upper pole area. I am very lucky to have retained almost all the transferred fat. Dr. Holcombe would like to see me in 3 months to see if the lumps have resolved. I am interested in a tummy tuck to tighten some loose skin in my mid abdomen area. We would likely do this when I have a second fat grafting done in late spring to early summer. My next fat grafting will be taken from my thighs. :)
