Botched boobs 6 months update

$8,055
So there is some improvement to my botched boobs but obviously they still need further surgery given the shape, 2 cupsize size discrepancy.

I am waiting for my new surgeon to review my images to deliver the verdict on what he recommends to fix them. Fingers crossed its more positive news!

So sorry to read what you have been through, as someone who was abandoned to my post ba deformities, pain and discomfort by a surgeon who just dismissed me, abandoned me and couldn’t care less, I appreciate the emotional aggravation on top of the undeniable cosmetic issues.
My surgeon told me he had ticked all the boxes and mine was a beautiful result so any issues with my surgery outcome were simply all in my head, or in any case it must be my fault for being slim if anything had gone wrong; the clinic tried to dismiss me claiming that I didn’t look “hugely unnatural”.
I was lucky enough to find a fantastic revision surgeon who showed proper skills and compassion.
I am glad you seem to have also found a caring new surgeon who will be able to help with revision.
Wishing you all the very best, will be following your updates x
Hello Antibes, thank you and the cosmetic surgery company I was dealing with questioned my mental state in a complaint decision to me when I asked for my implants to be removed entirely and my damaged breast repaired! Speaking to other botch victims this is a common cruel defence cosmetic surgeons/companies use to further attack their victims. They said they decided against removal of my implants as it would be too psychologically distressing and was in my best interests to wait for continued post operative changes, to decide IF further surgery would be needed!

They made no comment on the huge size discrepancy which is preventing me from wearing any fitted clothing and preventing me from living my life.

Can you imagine me walking down the street like this in summer without a breast insert, or going swimming? I would leave people in hysterics!

My new surgeon very much cares about the surgical outcome and is happy to discuss OPTIONS to ensure I am happy with the outcome. Unlike my original operating surgeon, his way or live your life deformed love!

I have looked at your review and pictures, I am so sorry you went through that xxx

Botched Boob Job UK

So I thought I would share some comparison pics from day 2 & 1 week then 4 weeks and 3 month post op.

Don't be fobbed off by it will settle or you need to wait for post operative changes. You know your body and when it's gone wrong, you know! It's not in your head, your not crazy, your not being too fussy, difficult or inpatient and it's not OK!

I have completely had the mick taken out of me by my operating surgeon and the cosmetic surgery company that performed my surgery. Don't be me, check your surgeons reviews over at least 3 years (including before and after pics). Don't go to an independent surgeon through a third party company, only ever deal direct (or their own practice). If you have your heart set on a surgeon with a third party company, check the company out first. You can do this for free with their company registration number from their website by searching for their company registration details on the Government site, Companies House. Also, look at the company directors and what other companies they own (if applicable). What are their reviews like? These are the people you are dealing with for your hospital admission, aftercare and revision.

I will update with 6 month pics when my mum can next get to me. Then 9 months for revision with new surgeon, counting down the days!!! This could have been the best 6 months of my life, instead it's been the worst. I Massively regret my decision!

I wish I had booked surgery abroad rather than the UK

Following on from my original review I accepted the settlement/NDA with the surgeon/cosmetic surgery company in December 23. This was my only option as my surgeon refused to discuss revision unless I received a second opinion and the cosmetic surgery company refused to allow me to receive a second opinion unless I deleted all negative reviews.

Prior to accepting the settlement I was told by 2 cosmetic surgery companies and 1 surgeon that they would be prepared to take over my care at 6 months. Once I accepted the settlement and made further enquiries, they all changed this to 12 months. I received a second opinion from one of these surgeons on 30th Jan 24 (4month) who told me I require staged revision surgeries due to my left breast requiring reconstruction, he also advised me that I had an abnormal chunk of breast tissue that may may always now make my left breast look abnormal. I have since been seen at an NHS breast clinic, the chunk of tissue is cystic which is why it's still so painful and has been caused by the breast trauma. I previously had very small breasts, with no lumps ect.

The surgeon also told me that my right implant has flipped and is facing the wrong way round, which is why it so much smaller and underfills my breast.

I have now booked my first revision surgery abroad, which is for explant, reconstruction of my left breast, removal of capsules and full uplift. I will then need a second surgery to reaugment. The first surgery will have the same psychological impact as having my breasts removed as I have no breast tissue plus I will be covered with scars. If I had been taken back to surgery early on, my augmentation could have been corrected and I wouldn't be going through this!

I have cried everyday for the last 5 months, I am off sick now for a second time due to mental health and am having counselling arranged by my employer. I have 4 outfits that I can wear outside of the house that I feel hide the size discrepancy enough, so have been isolated for most of this. It's Mother's day soon and I cooking for my mum and sister as I don't want to go out of the house as I feel the lowest I have ever felt in my entire life.

I will never understand my operating surgeons motives and wish I hadn't trust him just because he was an NHS consultant. He specialises in breast surgery which I personally feel is questionable at this point! I have hidden my breasts for 16 years and had an augmentation to finally feel better about my breasts. My surgeon knew this and allowed me to wake up with both implants flipped, one breast torn and overall deformed in an appearance. It takes a special kind of evil to not only allow someone to wake up like this but to tell them it's normal and leave them like this knowing they can't even go to work and they are alone!

I was suppose to be returning to my career this year, that got put on hold as a lone parent and childcare. I now have another 2 surgeries to go through plus recovery which means I won't be able to even consider returning until 2025! I also wanted to start dating and can't! I am at rock-bottom and there are no repercussions for the surgeon or the company. My life was already so hard I didn't need it to be completely destroyed.

I personally wouldn't recommend anyone have cosmetic surgery in the UK based on my experience and knowledge of the lack of action that is taken by regulators and governing bodies. Its a false sense of security, we are no safer here than Turkey!

I’m so sorry you have had to go through this. I know too how hard it is. I chose a specialist breast surgeon who was on tatlers best for breast reconstruction list. Oh the irony. I was meant to have bilateral breast implant removal, total capsulectomy, mastopexy and fat transfer. He left the capsules in, I was left with huge asymmetry from the mastopexy, the fat transfer failed and I was left with a lump of fat necrosis. The company offered revision after a 6 month fight but no surgeon within the company would take on the revision, as they didn’t want responsibility for the poor result. When they say revisions are covered for 12 months, it’s not true. If understandably you don’t want the original surgeon, then you are reliant on another surgeon in the same company wanting to do the revision. I eventually found an amazing surgeon elsewhere who spent 6.5 hours reconstructing my breasts. He is such a perfectionist and has done such a great job. It was very hard to have to such extensive revision after 8 months, to trust someone to do so. I too am taking legal action but there are no guarantees it will be successful. I in no way wish to influence your choice to have surgery abroad, but if you did want a further consultation in the UK I would highly recommend Mr D Macmillian at the Park Hospital, Nottingham. He is very experienced and will go above and beyond for you to get the best result. I am 6 weeks post op, and I finally feel I can move on. I do very much hope you get to do the same soon x
Hello Jill,

I am so sorry to hear about what happened to you and am glad you have had your revision successfully elsewhere.

I was about to litigate against my surgeon but then they oferred me a settlement offer which I hoped would be enough to cover revision elsewhere. It can take 3 years to win a claim against a surgeon for medical negligence. In hindsight I wish I had declined and proceeded with litigation as I my surgeon has got away with literally ruining my life.

The surgeon and company knew I had no money for revision elsewhere and used this to their advantage. I had wanted the surgery for 16 years and took out a loan as I was so desperate to not hate my breasts as they was preventing me from being in an intimate relationship due to self confidence.

They promised me "return to theatre" surgery on 29th October, then cancelled it 4 days before by email with no warning. The complaints manager then spent 3 months telling me I have no evidence that I require further surgery and that in my surgeons expert opinion no further surgical intervention is required. They kept throwing lower settlement offers at me, all the while pretending to try source a surgical second opinion from within the company. My surgeon refused to consult with me unless I had received this opinion, despite not having seen me since 3 week post op.

I have had to seek help twice from an NHS breast clinic as there was zero aftercare despite the company boasting it was industry leading!

I was scared and desperate for help so I buckled and accepted. I was then messed around until mid Feb by UK surgeons which meant I couldn't arrange surgery until late June after my child exams.as I can't go during mocks ect. Its almost summer and I won't he able to leave the house with these boobs in summer clothes!! I have booked surgery abroad and wouldn't be able to afford staged surgeries here I the UK. My surgeon has done quite the number on me!!!!
I have so much sympathy for your situation. You have been treated appallingly. I always thought those people that got poor surgical results hadn't done their research and had chosen a cheap or poor surgeon. Then it was me. Like you, I chose a reputable surgeon with an NHS post as a breast reconstructive surgeon in a centre of excellence. I ensured he had all my health history and asked all the right questions. But it didn't help. He did a 3-3.5hour operation in 1.5 hours and it showed. When the dressings came off at 2 weeks I wasn't allowed to view the result and was bundled into a bra. When I got home and looked in the mirror, I just cried. I can't add photos at this stage due to pending legal action, but it was awful. One breast at least a cup size different in size, 4cm difference in height between the areolas, one areola was tiny, less than 2cm wide. Incisions poorly stitched with gaps filled with surgical glue. When I saw the surgeon at 3 weeks he said breasts aren't symmetrical in nature! He felt the result was 'within normal limits', and that the problem was my concept of symmetry. I was wearing a mastectomy bra with prosthesis on one side so I looked normal in clothes, but he still said they looked the same to him. He offered a crescent lift of one nipple under local. I realised I could not let him operate on me again.

I spoke to the complaints team and they arranged a second opinion at the same hospital. Waste of time. The second surgeon had been briefed and was also adamant it wasn't a bad result, just needed very minor revision. But he was leaving the hospital and wouldn't do it. He also 'lost' the clinical photos taken. I saw another surgeon at the same hospital. She initially said she would perform a minor revision, which being desperate I accepted. Then she cancelled my surgery date by email, saying she didn't feel what she would be permitted to do would meet my expectations and advised me to return to the original surgeon. This was 5 months after surgery and I had had enough. Despite the hospital accepting there was a poor surgical result and offering revision, no other surgeon at that hospital would go against the opinion of the original surgeon and take it on. I asked for help from a doctor friend and she recommended Mr Macmillan. He wasn't at the same hospital group and was a few hours away so I thought I would at least get an honest opinion of what is needed.
Mr Macmillan was such a breath of fresh air. He gently told me everything that was wrong with my previous surgery including several details even I missed, and suggested a plan to improve things. He was honest about what could be done, and I have ended up with lots of scars. But they are so light and fine even now at 6 weeks with no scar treatment, they are barely noticeable, particularly the vertical incision. I know needing a lift is daunting to fix your breasts, but shape is more noticeable than scars in the hands of a good surgeon.

Anyway, to anyone else reading this. If you have a poor result, get another opinion from another hospital group. You will not get an honest opinion from surgeons who work together. I went back to the original hospital with my second opinion from Mr Macmillan. They were unwilling to pay for my revision by him and suggested another hospital in the same group. So I travelled further and met with yet another surgeon. She was truly horrified at the result and would have been willing to perform the revision surgery which would have been covered, but was leaving the hospital so I was back to square one. The original hospital suggested travelling further but I had had enough. It was 6 months of deformity and they didn't have a surgeon willing to perform the surgery. So I decided to go ahead with legal action and to pay for revision surgery. Luckily I had taken lots of photos as I was going to leave the original surgeon a real self review before I saw the result! This was really important for the legal case as it shows that the deformity and asymmetry was there post op, it didn't develop due to poor skin quality causing the breast to bottom out or the other nonsense the surgeon would claim. To anyone with a poor result, take lots of photos - as 'clinical like' as you can. Surgeons may try to get you to wait for the result to mature, drop, settle etc. Asymmetry doesn't correct itself over time. They are just waiting to get you out of the 'free revision' time period because they don't want it to affect their return to surgery figures, or that any problem can be explained by changes over time due to patient characteristics such as poor/thin/loose skin, particularly breast lifts. As soon there is a problem, photos, document everything, and get a second opinion elsewhere. You may choose to go back to the original surgeon, but with an honest opinion from another surgeon you are in a much stronger position with the knowledge of what is wrong and how it should be fixed.
Practical, this is probably not my place and I don't know how much your staged surgery may cost in Turkey but I am worried for you that it may not be the best solution. I wish you didn't have to go abroad for surgery as I'm not sure how you get the aftercare you should even if the initial surgical result is ok? I know you may have financial and time restraints, but perhaps you could afford surgery in the UK if it's not staged? I sent a lot of photos and enquiries to Mr Macmillan's assistant, Kara before meeting him. You may be able to get an idea of what is possible? The details are on his website. I'm sorry if I keep harping on about him, it's just I know he could make you look amazing and an honest, highly skilled surgeon isn't always that easy to find.
On a immediate practical front M&S post surgery crop top bras are padded, supportive and allow an extra pad in the pockets if needed so you look nice in summer clothes. It allowed me to pass for normal which helped a bit whilst I was waiting for revision.
Best of luck xx
Hello Jill

Thank you, I am still horrified that my surgeon performed such a basic procedure, by comparison to his skill set to receive such a poor outcome. I didn't even know it was possible to require staged surgeries following augmentation!

I knew something was wrong from the moment I woke up, but listened to the nurses reassurance as I was too scared to accept that it had gone horribly wrong. My surgeon was initially dismissive of my concerns too, which made me feel completely "gas lit". He was a completely different person post surgery. It was terrifying as I had put my complete trust in him and foolishly really believed he wanted me to have a good surgical outcome and be happy. Heartbreakingly, he didnt care in the slightest which made me feel so vulnerable, scared and alone.

It's a similar feeling to abuse survivors as you blame yourself. You go through all the research you did and choices you made to lead you to that surgeon. I felt so stupid for choosing him and the company.

It sounds as if your surgeon used the same tactics as mine! The complete lack of accountability from our surgeon's as NHS consultants is shocking! I personally don't think they should be allowed to use their position with the NHS in their advertising whilst in private practice. It would obviously need to he disclosed with credentials but it gives a false sense of security to people as you believe you will receive the highest standard of care.

I am so sorry that you had such a poor outcome, that is genuinely horrible! Mr MacMillan sounds fantastic and had he have been recommended to me in January, I may well have made contact with him. I have booked and paid for my first surgery abroad (not Turkey) which is at a very reputable hospital to be performed by a very experienced surgeon. I genuinely can't go through another consultation, I struggle with body confidence and having to get my deformed boobs out so many times, has completely destroyed me!

I was never someone who thought I would post pictures of my breasts online, but this experience has totally stripped me of my dignity and self-respect. I will never understand how these surgeons can do this to people (mainly women), it's no better than FGM!

I completely agree with your advice re: pictures or videos from the outset. Also try to communicate via email so you can evidence what has been agreed.

I hope you win your claim and from what you have said, I think you will. Good luck xxx
Hello Jill

Yhe weather is lovely here so I am looking at Mastectomy bras and inserts online. You are the second person to mention M & S do Mastectomy bras with removable inserts on one side by my local stores don't have them and they are not online. Did you get the pockets and if so what dud you fill it with? The have inserts too but they range in size from small to large and don't say home many cupsizes they are. Which one did you get please?
Hello. I hope you are well. M&S do post surgery bras online. They come with cotton lined pockets in the cups, and the cups are quite padded. The one I found evened my asymmetry out the best was the cotton non wired cami bra (grey, pink, white). If you read the reviews, lots of women wear them post augmentations too as they offer really good support. They are not the prettiest thing but they do give a smooth shape that disguises any differences you may have. They come up quite snug in the back and big in the cup if that helps. They are good value at £14 with vat off and don't look bad under a low neckline. I had a 120ml difference so about a cup size. The inserts that M&S sells are really for post mastectomy, very rigid. I found thin triangular pads I had from another bra were enough to go in the pocket of the smaller breast. Or can be bought very cheaply on amazon/ebay. If you think you'd need more than that there is evenly for thin silicone bra inserts but I found they were expensive and hard to get the right size. You might have more luck. They were very good quality but maybe not necessary if you only have a couple of months before revision. Fingers crossed for you. I hope you update when you've recovered.
This is really helpful thank you. I am wanting a bra I can wear with summer dresses as this is my go to when it gets warmer and had wrongly assumed there would be a good range of Mastectomy bras to wear with different fashions. It's really bad there isn't!

The post surgery bra you recommend does look like a good option for everyday though. I am 2 UK cupsizes so about 200ml and the left IMF is lower so the lower portion of my right breast needs filling out to give symmetry for tight clothing.

I was very pleased with the VAT deduction! I have ordered the medium insert which I am hoping will allow me to wear a normal bra and can be added to my Macom bra otherwise.

I will be putting up a review as soon as I had it done. I am discussing other options with the surgeon at the minute to see if my surgeries can be done the other way round so I can have breasts for 6 months between surgeries and choose if and when, I need a second surgery for uplift. Fingers crossed!
Bless you! Horrific experience I’m so sorry this has happened to you. Where in the country is this surgeon based? This is where we can avoid x
I can't name my surgeon or company due to legal reasons but they are based in the United Kingdom (UK).

However, if I could go back in time and give myself advice this is what I would say.

If you are in the UK too, I would choose a surgeon that has there own practice such as Mr Urso-Baiarda or Dr Netri.

You want to see at 3 years worth of consistent before and after pictures. Also look at reviews, how far do they go back? Are there big gaps with none? Are the reviews balanced, excellent, good and bad (perhaps something minor, such as I wish they had let me go bigger).

If you choose a cosmetic surgery company make sure you check the company on Companies House which is a free government site.

Get the company registration number from the bottom of cosmetic surgery companies main website (has to be displayed by law). Then copy this into the search bar on Companies House. You will be able to see how many times the company changed their name, ownership and even how many times they have dissolved (removing liabilities to patients). If you know how to use the site you can check out much more, but these are the basics you need.

Then look at the company directors and what other companies they own.

Look at the reviews and CQC ratings for any companies the directors own or owned, as this gives you a good idea as to how they deal with complaints, customers as a business. They may have new Trustpiilot accounts if they changed their name, so bear this in mind as you may need to dig.

If all the reviews and CQC ratings are good, you can see evidenced before and after pictures for your chosen proceedure performed by your surgeon and their reviews are consistent, then book a consultation.

I recommend at least 2 consultations and discuss all possible complications even if its unlikely they will happen so you can see how they react to your questions. Do they sound like they would resolve any concerns if it went wrong? Look at the contract and revision policy in detail, do not pay the full procedure amount until you see and agree to this.

I hope this helps you or someone else from going through this. In an ideal world you shouldn't need to do this much research on potential surgeons as they are medical doctors with an oath to uphold, sadly however this is the world we live in!
