Poor Experience and Results - Dan Mills MD

I did not have a good experience doing my breast aug with doctor mills. I am sharing my honest story below.

He didn't come to my pre-op appointment which worried me - I met with a women who I am not even sure is a nurse. The morning I arrived to his office for surgery, I arrive ontime (early - first appointment of the day). I sat on the floor outside of his locked office door for a good 15-30 minutes confused why no one was there. Some nurses I had never met before finally came and found me, and apologized that no one instructed me where his surgery center was (down the hall). The nurses prepped me, and eventually Dr. Mills arrived and it was immediately clear that no one had any idea what was discussed with the woman at my Pre-Op. Dr. Mills literally said "so what are we doing today?" when he walked in which made me very uneasy.

He asked if I wanted to the breast implants on-center or a bit lower, and said he preferred a bit lower. I wished he could have shown my some example at that moment but I felt rushed as we seemed to be behind schedule already. So I agreed, a bit lower sounded good - and I showed him my ideal photos again on my phone of what I was striving for.

I only saw Dr. Mills once at a follow-up after surgery. He said they potentially appeared too-low, and offered to put me in a neck-harness for 3 months if I wanted try to lift them. While myself and my friends certainly thought they looked too low, his own nurse confirmed with my when Dr. Mills stepped out of the room, that they were absolutely too low (she said he cut the pockets too low) and I definitely needed to wear the harness. Dr. Mills was travelling over the next several weeks so I never saw him for any follow-up visits after that first one when he put me in the harness. At my 1-week follow up, I told the nurse I had been sleeping sitting-up (as I had been instructed) and I advised her it was so painful and the harness was popping off at night (it was crucial to be wearing the harness non-stop during these initial days). She was mortified that I had been misinformed and she told me it no progress had been made that week - and I was supposed to be sleeping flat on my back that week to prevent further dropping. Apparently the sleeping sitting-up information their office had given me was only for patients with no problems.

The harness was 3 months of terrible unbearable pain, sleepless nights and pain while sitting which reduced my performance at work - I had to put my entire life on-hold abruptly for months. I had to put gauze under the harness as it was cutting into my skin so tight, it caused broken blood vessels around the harness which Dr. Mills refused to zap for me for free (I am still undergoing laser to get the harness broken blood vessels fixed) While I wore the harness, the only thing that didn't physically hurt me was laying in bed or standing/walking. The implants had not raised to the height where they should be, and Dr. Mills asked me to wear the harness longer, beyond 3 months however at this point I could not. This had not been asked of anyone before beyond 3 months, and I had a non-refundable Mediterranean trip planned with my boyfriend that I was not willing to cancel.

Years later, they are of course my breasts remain too low and I am constantly reminded by surgeons, boyfriends and girl friends that they are too low. It's hard to find bikinis that fit because the space between by nipple and breast fold is too long. I can't afford another surgery, I had one shot.

Throughout the entire process Dr. Mills said not to worry - if they were not raised successfully by the harness, he could always do another quick surgery to raise them. I made an appointment with Dr. Mills to discuss this offer. He was furious when he walked into the room and saw that I was the patient sitting inside. He told his nurse assistant that he did not have time for me (mind you I had an appointment scheduled to see him). He told me there was no way he would lift them surgically for me as he had originally promised, or do anything to them surgically for 10 years as there was too much risk of problems doing any further surgery. I cried due to this shocking news, and reminded him of all the times he told me they could be lifted surgically if the if harness didn't work, and he stormed out of the room.

I can't tell you how many times I have thought, if he had just came to my pre-op and looked at some photos/options like any other surgeon in the world would, this could all have been avoided.

Anyone considering work with Dr. Mills should be aware of my story.
