Petite 5’1” 32A - 335cc Dual Plane Round Silicone
I have been wanting to get a breast implant for a long time and been putting it off for various reasons. I am a mother who has breast fed my child for a year and had lost volume and definition. After meeting a couple of doctors we finally met Dr. Ashish Ghughe who is absolutely fantastic. He took the time to address all my questions (even when my husband and I were messaging him up to 1 am). He understood that I wanted fullness but did not want to go too large and explained unders vs overs, diameters, projections, recovery times, pain, and what he felt would work on my frame in detail.
At first we were considering overs (over the muscle) since the recovery time is shorter and pain is less, but my skin or tissue volume / thickness was on the border of what would be acceptable for an over the muscle implant without showing the edges and rippling. After a lot of consideration (including discussions about capsular contracture, possibility of being able to see the implant edges, tissue volume in the upper pole, a natural look vs a more pronounced augmented breast look, level of fitness activity, pain, recovery time, etc) and particularly because i did not have enough skin thickness we decided eventually to go with a dual plane under the muscle implant. We looked at tons of posts on many websites (mostly on RealSelf) and narrowed down to a range of 320-370 CC for the implant. Dr. Ghughe arranged to have 3 different sizes available during the procedure so that he could take a decision on the table. The target size we had considered was a 335CC high profile because I have a very narrow chest wall and the diameter was a limitation. During op, he felt that the 320 was not large enough and that the 360CC was a little too large so he went ahead with the 335CC.
The morning of the surgery I arrived at the hospital at 8:30 am and was scheduled for surgery at 11. I was back in the room by 2:30 pm after being in the recovery room for the anaesthesia for 40-45 minutes.
I must commend Mr. Ghughe’s team - particularly post op for the attention, availability for any questions, care, and most importantly pain management. I was talking to Dr. Lad a couple of times a day and she was worth her weight in gold. My medication for pain management was being changed continuously depending on my body’s ability to take different drugs and how I was feeling.
The first 10-12 hours were horrific. There was surely a feeling of being stretched in the upper pole, but what was bothering me the most was that I had severe nausea from the pain medications and had to change to alternate medication. This significantly helped because over and above the pain of the muscle being stretched over an implant and the stitches, the last thing I needed / wanted was to be hunched over feeling dizziness and nausea. Once Dr. Lad identified the source of the problem and switched the meds, I was definitely feeling better.
Pain for the first 2-3 days was definitely severe and I needed help to even sit up from a reclined position in bed, let alone bathing, using the toilet, or even changing my clothes. I typically sleep on my side which was a problem since I had to change to sleeping reclined on my back and this would also lead to stiffness in my back when I would wake up in the morning.
I was more or less unable to do most things in the first 2-3 days. Anyone considering this should plan on having their spouse or caretaker available to help them for a week to ten days.
By the end of the 3rd or 4th day, the pain was significantly less. I still needed help to sit up from a reclined position up to the end of the first week as well as help to bathe and get dressed because of the restricted movement of the arms.
By the end of week 2 I was off all pain killers (which tapered down from day 7-14). I still could not raise my arms fully and would wake up with stiffness in my back and getting upright in the morning was slightly painful. Once upright and moving everything was better. I was however, able to raise my arms enough to be able to get into normal clothes rather than only button up clothes.
By the end of week 3 I felt more or less normal other than the fact that I was still sleeping on my back (not reclined but flat now). I was able to wear most of my normal clothes and was in no pain. There was a very mild discomfort occasionally where the stitches are if I would roll onto my side, etc. but I found myself not second guessing my movements.
I will post pictures from a couple of days post surgery in the next post, as well as week 1, week 2 and week 3 pictures.
If anyone has any questions feel free to reach out. I found it very difficult to choose between unders and overs and feel that most reviews on RealSelf are for unders as this is most prevalent in the US.
So far I am sooo happy. It’s the perfect size for my body. I have the fullness I wanted without the judgemental looks of people who have an opinion by looking at someone who has obviously had a boobjob. I also made sure to wear sizers for 7-10 days before my procedure inside my bra for close family and friends to kind of get used to it because my husband and I had decided not to let people in on the surgery. I would wear only Victoria Secret bombshell - 2 cup push up bra’s pre op and had started wearing a 275 - 305 CC sizer inside my sports bra in the build up to the procedure. At the 3 week point, now, without any bra, I look slightly larger than what I did with the Bombshell Bra’s on and this is perfect. I fully understand the role of a bra in achieving a more pushed up look and the size I have gotten is enough to make me and my husband more than happy and yet not get any snide remarks or comments from colleagues or friends. I will get sized in the coming weeks and will update then.
