It is now a day after my breast augmentation surgery and I wanted to post on RealSelf to keep track of my journey and also give something back to the community as I have spent sooo many hours just scrolling on people’s experiences. I'll post about my experience with the consultations first (even though I am now currently one day post-op) and then update with my experience during and after surgery in the following posts :)
I went on a last-minute weekend trip to Seoul to get some in-person consultations for a breast augmentation. After doing a not-small amount of research online related to the different types of implants, sizes, and incision points for the implant, I was able to narrow down what I wanted:
Requirements:
Something small and natural. As I stressed multiple times to the consultants and surgeons, I was not planning to apply to the newest season of Too Hot To Handle or Single’s Inferno, and wanted a subtle enlargement to look more attractive in clothes and when naked. There were many before/after photos on the Gangnam plastic surgery websites, but the issue was all of them seemed too large and unnatural on the Asian women’s petite body frames. There were examples of women that went from an AA cup to a D cup or even larger, and the skin would look like it was pulled so tautly that you could glimpse the blue veins running along their stretched out breast tissue, even 3 months after their surgery. When the before/after pictures showed the women’s side profiles, you could also clearly pinpoint where their natural skin ended and their implant began, as there would be clear C-shaped road bumps on their upper ribcage which looked so odd against their narrow chests.
I just wanted something to match my small upper body and look proportional to my thinner arms. Something along a large B cup or small C cup. However, the more research I did into boob jobs, a consistent suggestion that popped up in online forums was to not focus too much on the implant size or the desired final cup size because every body is different! A cup/implant size on one person could look drastically different between people based on their height, ribcage size, distance between breasts, etc.
My experience in Seoul:
I really wanted to go to Seoul to perform this surgery, as Gangnam is known as the plastic surgery / medical tourism capital of the world. However, during my initial Google searches, it was quite difficult to find a clinic that specialised in breast augmentation, as many of the most popular search results on Google were heavily advertising its facial reconstruction surgeries (jawline, rhinoplasty, eyelid surgery, etc). In the end, I found 6 potential clinics and booked an in-person consultation, which I then narrowed down to 3 as I wasn’t able to attend the other 3 clinic appointments for one reason or another. One important thing to note about plastic surgery clinics in Korea is that for foreign patients, they will have a consultant and a plastic surgeon speak to you during your consultation and on your actual surgery day; the consultant’s role is to be the translator between you (the patient) and the plastic surgeon, and is also well-versed in the surgery procedure enough to discuss the different surgical options and pricing plans.
Clinic A
I had a very positive experience in Clinic A and nearly picked this option. This was the only clinic out of the 3 that owned an entire building, and the premises and consultation rooms were very pristine and elegant. The consultant and plastic surgeon that were assigned to me were both very patient and attentive in listening to my desire to have smaller implants, and based on my goal pics and current size the surgeon recommended infra-mammary incision, dual plane method, Mentor Xtra, 150-180cc moderate profile. From trying on the sizers they had I also agreed with the surgeon that under 200ccs was the best option because I looked scarily disproportionate even with the 225cc. The consultant also reassured me that on the day of the surgery, the surgeon would stick my goal pics and my before pics on the OR walls as references when performing the surgery procedure, and would decide on the final implant size based on these images. The initial price quoted was KRW14m, which is nearly USD10k and quite pricey!! The price included discounts on select partnered hotels, 2 free hair washes after the surgery, a ride either to or from the airport, and other small perks that did not really make up for the final price.
Clinic B
I did not have a positive experience in Clinic B as the whole consultation felt very hectic and I ended up spending more time waiting to see the consultant/surgeon. First of all, the waiting area was extremely packed and seemed understaffed as the consultants were running around trying to accommodate to multiple clients. There were also patients that already had their surgeries done who were walking around the same waiting room, which was pretty jarring as they looked like tired mummified zombies walking around dazed and bumping into people.
When I finally got to meet the surgeon, he recommended infra-mammary incision, dual plane method, Motiva Ergonomix, 250cc Demi profile. I didn’t even get to try any sizers on because the clinic did not have any sizers that were smaller than 300cc which seemed odd. I also asked if I could review the CCTV footage of the surgery procedure and the consultant said I would have to pay around USD20 for my accompanying family/friend to watch it once and USD60 for myself to watch it and keep the footage, which was also very weird. The consultant in Clinic A was kind enough to warn me that these sorts of clinics that charge you for reviewing surgery CCTV footage were not to be trusted, as clinics should usually give this footage away for free to patients unless they’re trying to hide something or just trying to make a quick buck from you. The consultant asked what price I was quoted at in Clinic A and based on that gave me the offer of around KRW11.5m or USD8k.
Clinic C
Out of the 3 clinic consultations that I had, I ended up picking Clinic C because their price was the most affordable, and I was interested in a trans-axillary incision which this clinic specialised in. This clinic also was more famous for its breast augmentation procedures, while the other 2 clinics I visited were more general plastic surgery providers. The consultation room I was in had a gigantic drawer full of different implant sizers and had a special try-on bra that you could slip different sizers in between a pocket to emulate a more natural looking result, which I thought was quite neat and was more fulfilling than the other two clinics.
I was very hesitant to choose Clinic C because the surgeon recommended the 245-265cc range, Motiva Demi implants which was huge when I tried on the sizers. When I stressed that I did not want a dramatic difference and needed something to suit my body, the surgeon explained that having too small of an implant size (less than 200cc) would not make a visible difference or in some cases look even worse than if I didn’t undergo surgery, because my original breast width diameter would be larger than the implant width and it’d look like a tennis ball was sticking out of my skin. The surgeon also advised against the Motiva Mini as she explained that with the dual plane method, my muscle would flatten the implant and it wouldn’t make as visible of a difference in size as I desired. The quoted price was KRW9m or around USD6k which was very attractive as well.
I've told a few of my friends and family members about it and they've all been very supportive of my decision, which is surprising coming from a pretty traditional background where no one else I know has undergone any cosmetic surgical procedures. I've posted a few of my pre-op photos and my goal pics for your ref :)

Surgery day update
kittiesinkoreaNovember 14, 2025
I'm now freshly 6 days post-op and have had no complications so far (knock on wood)! Just to keep everyone up to date on everything:
Pre surgery preparation:
My surgery was scheduled for Nov 7th at 1pm, but the clinic advised that I come in at 10am to do some blood tests and a general check up to see whether I would be fit to go under anasthesia. My mom was came with me for the whole visit to calm my nerves and also to give a second opinion on the implant size and brand.
After arriving, I immediately underwent an ECG and blood test and was asked some general questions again, like my height, weight, when my last period was, if I could be pregnant, etc. While they were running my results I was led to the after-treatment room already to put down my bags and change into my surgical gown, which just looked like an oversized comfy pyjama set.
After waiting another while, they brought me to the consultation room and the consultant and surgeon spoke with me and my mom about the implant size. The surgeon seemed glad to see that I was ok with going above 250ccs, and stressed again that mini sized implants would just not show a big enough difference in my body. She had me try on the 265cc Demi sizers again and said that I would look like that with 285cc sub muscular implants, which still seemed a bit too big on me but I am quite wary of boob greed and knew from other reviews that 20-40cc wasn’t a huge difference.
I was then given an IV drip while waiting for the blood test results and was given a final set of consent forms and post care instruction documents to sign. I was then brought to another room to do an x-ray test as well and then shuttled back to the post-treatment room to wait until I was given the ok to go to surgery.
Surgery procedure:
After around 4 hours since arriving at the clinic, I was finally brought to the surgery floor, where I was greeted by 2 nurses and the anaesthesiologist, who changed my IV drip bag to the anaesthesic fluid (?) and gave me the gas while the nurses strapped my arms to my sides (like a wide open T shape) to prepare my body for the trans-axillary incision.
In what felt like 2 minutes but was actually 2.5 hours, I was woken up by the nurses in the operating room, who wheeled me down to the post-treatment room in a wheelchair. They already changed me into a supportive bra and a compression top, so I wasn’t able to see my post-surgery boobies. I felt very groggy and disoriented and my eyesight was still blurry after waking up while my jaw was shivering uncontrollably despite not feeling cold, but the nurses assured me that all of these symptoms were totally natural after waking up from surgery. I was told to stay in the post-treatment room bed for at least another hour, awake, to get used to any nausea post-surgery, and after that I could be discharged. I also had to fast for 2 hours after my surgery before I could eat dinner, as by this time it was already 7pm in the evening.
Post procedure:
The surgeon visited me in the post-treatment room around 10 minutes after and reassured me that the procedure went super well and that the boobs looked just like my goal pics. She offered to take off the compression bra to show me the new breasts but I said no because I was still so nervous and wanted to keep them compressed and down!!
After around 30 minutes from my surgery time I felt completely fine (other than the very strong downward pressure on my chest and the intense thirst from fasting all day) and asked the nurse to discharge me. I was given a sip of water to check whether I had any nausea, then a cute after-surgery package which included breast mask patches, scar gel (for wayyy down the line), some pomegranate jelly snacks, and my Motiva card.
Before leaving, I was also given a list of medications by the consultant and advised to pick up my meds in the pharmacy downstairs; the meds are a mix of antibiotics, decongestants, and painkillers, with 3 extra days of extra strong painkillers to help with the changes in my body. The medication prescribed is priced separately from the surgery costs, and in total for 14 days of meds which are supposed to be taken morning, noon, and evening, it cost around USD50! Korean pharmacies are also super helpful in the sense that they put your daily meds in different little satchels so you don’t have to remember what meds to take at each time of the day :)
It was already quite late in the evening at this time and I was quite hungry and suuuuper thirsty. I was able to down like 3/4 of my usual dinner meal amount before getting full and had no issues with queasiness with drinking or eating, just felt quite tired for the rest of the night. After eating dinner and arriving at the hotel, I just couldn’t wait to sleep after taking my meds and didn’t have the energy to clean myself :,) my mom set up my elevated sit-up pillow and I just slept sitting up for the night, quite soundly as well thanks to the tiredness and the medication.
I’ll post another update tomorrow marking 1 week after my surgery and my second consultation with the surgeon :) so excited to finally shower the upper half of my body and clean my hair!! Will take some pics of my naked boobs 1 week post surgery too after rubbing off all the markers on my skin, but for now please enjoy pics of my clothed chest in the first 2-3 days after surgery.

One week post!
kittiesinkoreaNovember 15, 2025
It's now been one week since my surgery and things have been pretty great! I've had two follow-up consultations with the surgeon, and she commented that my recovery has been faster than expected which is amazing to hear.
My first post-op checkup was two days after my surgery, when I was allowed to take off the upper compression band that covered the entirety of my torso. I was advised to go to a bra fitting and purchase one wired and one sports bra to my second checkup. After going to the bra shop suggested by the clinic, the salesperson measured me as a 34E/32D which is wayyyyyy above what I expected or wanted!! I ended up going with the 32D bras which you can see me wear in the photos. I also voiced my concerns about the very large bra size to the clinic afterwards and the consultant told me that the brand they suggested gave very generous cup size measurements and that I was still at a very swollen stage, so my final result should bottom out to a C cup.... I'm a bit dubious about that, but so far I'm still ok with the size of the implants. The clinic was also very gracious to give me a free hair wash coupon at a neighbouring hairdressers, and more post-op perks including a 30 minute oxygen tank session which felt good after being bound by the compression bra 24/7, and a facial at their dermatology center.
In my second post-op checkup which was today (1 week after surgery), the surgeon gave me the ok to finally shower my upper body which I am ELATED by. I practically ran back to the hotel after the appointment just to hop in the shower and clean myself which felt incredible. I was also given a cool gel massage on my breasts which was on the house, and I noticed that my left breast was definitely further along recovery than my right because I could feel the cool gel more on the left. My right breast is also more sensitive in the nipple area and today I noticed some minor bruising on my right lower breast crease. The surgeon affirmed that it does take like at least a month to drop and fluff and I need to be patient with the progress, but she also warned me that since my right pec is naturally a bit higher than my left, there may be some asymmetry in the finished look as well. Honestly I'm a bit disappointed by that news, as the surgeon did mention I had an asymmetrical chest in the pre-op consultation and said she would try her best to make it symmetrical, so for her to say that there is a good chance for there to be noticeable asymmetry is not opportune... I think the best thing to do is to be patient now still and wait for the full results to show in around a month, because I also know the right boob still has some catching up to do!
In the second checkup, the surgeon also said that I needed to wear the surgical support bra for one more month and the small compression band for another week. This is GREAT news as in the original consultation she warned me that I could be wearing both for up to 3 months (as I am not from Korea and I cannot have regular checkups, wearing the surgical bra for longer is the safest option). As for the scars, they look very neat and small, which I am also very grateful to my surgeon for!! After the nurse took off the stitch tape, the surgeon said I need to wear waterproof bandaids to shower for another week, and afterwards I need to apply some regenerative cream in the morning and evening for 3-5 weeks, afterwards scar gel for up to a year.
In general during the first week, pain and uncomfortableness has been extremely minimal, and I've been clocking in at least 7k steps a day since day 1 post-op. I've noticed that I am definitely more tired than usual and my appetite has diminished, but all's good and I know it will take some time for me to get back to my usual pace, just being patient with my body is enough.
On a more negative note, I am still worried that 285ccs is too large for my frame. I went clothes shopping today and although I think I look amaaaaazing naked, a lot of clothes just make me look bulky and larger up top which I am not super pleased about. I am used to being thin and toned and looking good in most clothes I try on except for the boobier tops, so now that I have boobs and look heavy up top everything just looks sorta imbalanced, unless I wear something more cinched at the waist as my top and bottom. Shopping will definitely be more of a challenge now and I will need to try on all clothes instead of blindly buying them online / in person, which in retrospect is GREAT for my wallet especially after the damage it's taken from my surgery cost (trying to remain positive!!!). I'm going to post some photos of my before/after in clothes after I return to my home country next week so you can see the difference in clothes for yourself.
