I Have Never Felt So Comfortable in my Own Skin
If you've been looking for the perfect plastic surgeon and care team, you found them right here. I know this is going to be a long review, but it's worth the read if you're looking for a real testimonial.
In 2014, I found a lump in my R breast. I was noticing it had gotten smaller, more painful, and sought out my gyno. I had mammograms and US done and they couldn't determine what it was, so they biopsied my breast. They still couldn't determine anything, thus they removed the tissue thru the biopsy multiple times.
Before this all began, I was a 34 C/32 D with even breasts. Afterwards, I was a 34 C on the L and a 32 A on the R.
My breasts were so uneven, I couldn't wear bathing suits, any outfits that had a plunge, or anything form fitting. No bra fit me, and even when I bought a custom made bra ($120) I had to maintain perfect posture to keep the cups against my breast. I was miserable. I was only 23 and my identity was shifted drastically.
I searched for plastic surgeons and specialists across 3 different states, spoke with over 12 surgeons and their care teams, and still never felt right with any of them. That search came to an end in 2019 when I came across Dr. Coan and his care team.
First off, when I called the office, Tammy made me feel comfortable and opened a platform for questions right off the bat. It felt like I was talking with my mom or aunt about something I was insecure and curious about and she was there with more empathy than I can describe. There was never any pressure and she even called to follow up throughout the year to see how I was doing and if I had questions or concerns.
When I actually came in and met Dr. Coan, it was a 2 hour consult but it was one on one and so incredibly thorough. Dr. Coan really educates his patients and prospective clients to make sure they understand what they want and to make sure he understands what they want. Everyone is on the same page by the end of the first meeting, and you feel that. As a fellow doctor myself, I am blown away by his bedside manner and professionalism. I haven't even started to talk about his work.
I am NOT a straight forward case. I was hoping to increase the size of my breasts back to where I used to be, if not a little bigger, and to make them even. I also wanted to remove scar tissue from the biopsy and any cystic tissue that caused me pain. I had no shape and such asymmetry, it was going to be one heck of a job. And Dr. Coan approached it with such support and confidence, I knew I had the right team.
Throughout the prep months ahead, to months after, the team was always keeping in touch and taking care of things so I never had to stress. They were in contact with my work to make sure they could accommodate my needs and advocated for me with my insurance. Tica, Caitlin, Ashley, and other CARE team members were all friendly and personable, answering questions and handling needs, going above and beyond just their job. They really treat you like family. And at CARE, you are family.
For the surgery itself, I cannot tell you how happy I am with the results. It doesn't even feel like I had surgery; I feel like myself again. My breasts look natural, feel natural, and the scarring is minimal to non existent. I will still be able to breast feed and still run, workout, and carry on with my normal life with the confidence I had before 2014. The only thing that hurts are my cheeks from smiling so hard even since the day after surgery.
