Incredible Experience!

I cannot recommend Dr. Ben Johnson enough! I am five weeks post-op after having a breast augmentation under Dr. Johnson’s care. Although I’ve known I wanted a breast augmentation for 15 years, the results have tremendously exceeded my expectations. If a breast augmentation is something you have been considering and you live in or would be willing to travel to Mountain Brook, Alabama, you should consult with Dr. Johnson. Before my surgery, I was not even filling up an A cup. I am now a D in Victoria’s Secret and believe I will be a full C/moderate D in other brands. At my consultation, I told Dr. Johnson my desire is to be a full C. When the nurse came in to help me try on the bra and sizers, I was given 300 cc and 350 cc implants. Dr. Johnson and the nurse felt as though 300-330 would be safest for me, explaining that I have a small frame and that the chest skin and muscle can only stretch so far… For the record, I am 5’3” and my weight fluctuates between 135-142. I have a much more pronounced lower body than upper body, by nature. The desire for balancing my physique is yet another reason I sought a breast augmentation. I am a mother of two. I breastfed in the form of exclusive pumping for both of my daughters. When breastfeeding, my breasts were a full C; therefore, I felt confident in the ability of my breasts to stretch and adjust beautifully to implants. My implants would be gummy bear gel implants, placed under the muscle with a moderate profile. I left my consultation on Cloud 9. I loved my doctor and the nurses. I know 8 other women who used Dr. Johnson previously for breast augmentations and I loved the appearance of his work. My consultation day was one of the happiest days of my life. The more I contemplated, the more certain I was that I wanted 350 ccs. Fast forward a month and surgery day was here. I had a tremendous amount of anxiety concerning the procedure. I went through tumultuous moments, but deep within, I knew I had to do this FOR ME. Prior to the surgery, the surgical nurse visited with me and my mom. She found ways to distract me and make me laugh. When surgery time was upon me, Dr. Johnson touched base. I told him I wanted as close to 350 ccs as possible. Then, the anesthesiologist came in to discuss her methods. She started medicine in my IV that calmed my nerves. I didn’t have a care in the world! She assured me that she would monitor my vitals and could tell if I was feeling pain. She would adjust my IV medication as needed. I remember being taken into the operating room (in Dr. Johnson’s office…not hospital…another plus…) and that is all. I fell asleep and woke up with the 360 cc breasts of my dreams. The fact that Dr. Johnson heard me out prior to the surgery concerning my sizing, and even gave me a little more, was the greatest possible scenario! Make no mistake, I woke up in pain. I wasn’t shocked by this. I fully expected the exact aching, tightness, and discomfort I felt. I have a low pain tolerance. I recovered in office for an hour and was on my way home within an hour. The car ride home was rough when my mom would hit bumps. I was groggy. The pillow I had in my lap certainly helped. I recommend having a pillow post-op for the drive home. The nurse instructed my mom to make me eat to avoid nausea as a side effect of medication. I was able to eat and drink while my mom ran in to have my medicine filled. The remainder of the day, I rested in the recliner. I had to have much assistance from my mother and husband when going to the restroom the first two days. I was given Percocet for pain, Robaxin for muscle relaxants, and two different nausea medications. As I’ve said, I have a low pain tolerance. The muscle spasms were terribly hard the first and second day. I couldn’t stand up straight for the greater part of four days. I attribute this to the new weight on my chest as well as the muscle involvement. Although I don’t have a high pain threshold, the pain was never so great that I cried. The only time I cried was the second night because I missed my three-year-old who was with her sitter. Being away from children during recovery is tough, but a necessary step in recovery. Even through the toughest moments of my pain, I adored my results and knew wholeheartedly I had done the right thing for my mental health, confidence, and well-being. I was able to shower, with assistance, 48 hours after surgery. I couldn’t wash my hair because I couldn’t reach about my head. I scheduled an appointment with my hair stylist to wash and style my hair on day 4. I was able to apply makeup with T-Rex arms on that day. That just goes to show how great my recovery was! I slept in the recliner for 11 days. It was more comfortable due to swelling upon waking. I also believe sleeping elevated helped my implants to drop quicker because, well…gravity. Of course, when you first get implants, they are high. Despite this, I honestly loved the look of them from day 1. I feel that they’ve only gotten better with each passing day. My breasts did not drop at the same time. One has dropped quicker than the other. This is not problem! On Day 2 Dr. Johnson sent me a text message telling me I could message any time with questions. I thought this was extremely thoughtful. Dr. Johnson instructed me to wear the compression bra and band to help my implants settle for one week post-op. At my one week post-op appointment, he dismissed me from wearing the band and said to stick with my compression bra for one more week. I had purchased two additional compression bras the day of surgery. This is something I advise anyone to do! It makes life easier for you and those caring for you through recovery. Dr. Johnson said I could begin wearing different bras with NO UNDERWIRE after my two week mark. The nurse practitioner showed me how to massage. I do this diligently and recommend everyone follow your surgeon’s guidelines on massage. DO YOUR MASSAGES. I feel that this has helped to soften and heal my breasts, as well as encourage my implants to drop quickly. Some research suggests it helps to ward off capsular contracture as well. I am five weeks post op today, and I still wear my compression bra when I walk on the treadmill, do lower body workouts, and sleep. I wear Victoria’s Secret Pink t-shirt bras the rest of the time. I started walking at no incline, low speed, on the treadmill at two weeks. I did body weight leg workouts at 2.5 weeks. I gradually increased incline and the speed of my treadmill walks. I complete two-three lower body workout days a week. I go to the gym where I use five leg machines on one day, and complete two at-home body weight and resistance band lower body days. Although Dr. Johnson said I could do light arm work WITH NO CHEST after two weeks, my anxiety wouldn’t allow for that. I will resume upper body workouts at six weeks post-op. I encourage anyone to follow your doctor’s orders extremely closely. Read all of the literature leading up to your surgery CAREFULLY! Enjoy the process. I’ve cried many tears of joy because I finally have the breasts I was meant to have. I’ve actually missed the excitement leading up to my surgery. I am contemplating a tummy tuck next… I wish I could step outside of myself and give my old self a hug. I would thank her for having courage and being brave. Knowing everything I know now concerning the pain, process, etc., I’d have my breast augmentation with Dr. Ben Johnson a thousand times over! What this procedure has done for my overall confidence is out of this world.
