Breast Surgery Experience in Los Alamitos – Felt Rushed, Anesthesia Price Changed Day of Surgery & Still Waiting on Records
In August 2025, I went to Ocean Plastic Surgery because I was experiencing significant pain in my right breast, which was making it difficult to sleep. During my consultation, the issue was described as potentially urgent (possible rupture, infection, or other complications). Because of that explanation, I was encouraged to schedule surgery quickly and was told the doctor had cleared his schedule the following week to accommodate me.
Based on how the situation was explained, I felt that waiting might not be safe.
At the time my family had just moved, and financially we were not really prepared to take on surgery. Looking back, I wish I had taken more time to obtain multiple consultations and estimates before moving forward.
?
Day of surgery experience
One of the most stressful moments happened on the day of surgery. The anesthesia price changed shortly before the procedure while I was already prepared for surgery. This created unexpected financial stress for my family at a time when it was difficult to step back from the situation.
?
After surgery – documentation and insurance issues
Since the procedure, I have been trying to gather the documentation needed to submit everything to my insurance company.
I requested:
• copies of my medical records
• chart updates
• my superbill
• the anesthesiology billing documentation
As of the time I am writing this review, I still have not received the updated chart that was promised or a copy of the final anesthesia bill, despite multiple requests over several weeks.
Clear documentation is extremely important when trying to submit claims to insurance companies, and the delays have made that process much more difficult.
Before surgery, I had also documented my symptoms and concerns and sent that information to the doctor, so there was written documentation of what I was experiencing.
?
Insurance confusion
Another thing that surprised me later was seeing advertisements from the practice stating that some procedures may be covered by insurance.
When I spoke with the staff member responsible for procedure estimates earlier, I was told that working with insurance had been very difficult for the practice and that they likely would not be offering insurance-related cases going forward. Seeing advertisements mentioning insurance afterward was confusing.
?
Additional experience – Botox
Separate from the breast surgery, I also received Botox injections at the practice, and afterward I developed hooded eyelids, which was not something I had experienced with Botox treatments previously.
?
Advice for others considering surgery
I’m not sharing this experience to harm anyone, but because I wish I had slowed down and gathered more information beforehand.
If you’re considering cosmetic or reconstructive procedures anywhere, I would recommend:
• getting multiple consultations
• asking detailed questions about anesthesia billing
• asking how medical records and documentation will be provided afterward
• understanding all costs ahead of time
• confirming exactly what documentation you will receive if submitting to insurance
I am currently organizing my records and documenting the timeline while working through the insurance submission process.
