Surgery Day!

I’m writing this two days after, but I definitely still remember everything that happened like it was a few hours ago!

I was the second operation of the day - the first was a 6-7 hour long procedure (!!!) so I originally didn’t need to be at the clinic until 2 in the afternoon. They ended up calling me at 12:30 letting me know I could come in early, which I was super happy about since I was dying of thirst at that point. Once I got there, m assigned nurse took me back to one of the dressing room and had me “suit up” in my surgery gown and take a nicotine test (not a smoker so this wasn’t an issue). She then took my vitals and had the doctor come in to mark my chest. I was getting nervous at this point but still wasn’t regretting my decision at all.

I was eventually taken back to the operating room, which was chilly but they had this wonderful heated blanket ready for me when I got on the table. The other nurses and the anesthesiologist were super friendly, answering all of my questions while they were prepping my IV and monitors. The two minutes before I fell asleep were probably the scariest - I was too groggy to keep up a conversation with the nurses and keep my nerves at bay, but still aware enough to realize that this was it, and in what would seem like a few minutes I would be waking up with brand new boobs...luckily I fell asleep before I could change my mind!

I woke up quickly, a little nauseous but very little pain, just a lot of tightness in the chest like many people have described here. I was given water and crackers, and once I could sit up they called my boyfriend to pull his car around to the side of the clinic where they would be wheeling me out. No one rushed me, but I think I was out of the building and being helped into the car maybe less than half an hour after waking up.

Even though they had given me medication for the nausea both before and after the surgery, it continued to get worse until we got home, where I promptly vomited into the tray/bucket that they gave me on my way up the stairs to my apartment. This is usually how my body reacts to anesthesia, so I can’t say I was surprised. I felt so much better after I got in and settled on the couch, much better than I expected to feel after the operation. My boobs were (and still are) very much in the Frankenboob stage, but I’m hoping they will be quick to drop over the next few weeks! Super happy with the experience overall, and I can’t wait to see what they’ll end up looking like.

Before pictures

A couple of “before” pictures taken during my pre-op

5’10”, 150 lbs, 21 years old no kids. Went with 405 cc silicone moderates (Naturelle Inspira)

Like just about everyone else here, I have never been happy with the shape or size of my breasts. They never really grew in the way I expected them to when I was younger, and I quickly realized that they wouldn’t be improving anytime soon on their own once I finished high school. I was a B cup (C in VS sizing) before the surgery, but most of my volume was in the lower part of the breast, giving them a little bit of a saggy appearance. To me, it looked like I had already been breastfeeding at age 21, which had always affected my self esteem. I really wanted to have more freedom in he clothes I wore (especially with the strapless styles that have become so popular) and feel better about myself and my body overall. So, I decided that this was the year I was going to do something about it!

Although I was open to traveling for surgery, I wanted to see what was available in my area first. I began researching plastic surgeons in my city, and decided to schedule my first consultation with Dr. Grawe after being impressed with her before/after gallery on her website. Her patient coordinator was helpful, and even gave me a general price quote over the phone when I asked. She had my appointment scheduled within the week - I was beyond excited!

The consultation was $50, which is applied to the cost of the surgery if you decide to schedule with them. The office ladies were great, and I was taken back a few minutes after signing in for measurements and before pictures (which they retook at my preop appointment a week later, not quite sure why). Dr. Grawe was in shortly, and did a quick breast exam and then explained how the implant sizing worked, and what the implant types/profiles I could choose from were (saline, silicone and “gummy bear”). She was honest about her opinions of the different types, recommending silicone for me between the three, but she made sure I knew that ultimately it came down to what her patients wanted, as long as it worked for their body size/type. I was so happy with how the consult went that I wet ahead and scheduled my surgery that day for about 2 weeks later (crazy, I know! But because of my crazy school schedule, I knew this would be my last opportunity to have the procedure done before January).

After trying on sizers at the pre-op, I ended up going with 405 cc silicone (Naturelle Inspira moderate profile, which based on the dimensions seems to be the same as Naturelle Classic moderate+ or Mentor HPs). I honestly never had second thoughts about my choice before the surgery, and I’m so happy that I wasn’t pushed towards a particular size just because of my height. I know being taller generally means you can go bigger and still look proportional, but as someone with an average frame size, I really didn’t want to go too big and look overdone.

Will update in a bit on how my surgery/first night of recovery went!
