I’ve been in two minds about writing about my experience, and whether I’m brave enough to post my photos! But I found reading everyone else’s experiences so helpful when deciding to get my breast augmentation done, and there doesn’t seem to be many reviews of doctors in New Zealand, so I’ve decided add my story. I got my breast augmentation done with Dr Julian Lofts yesterday, but I’ll start at the beginning with my initial consult.
I met with his nurse Cheryl back in June when I first decided to go ahead with new boobs. I have a nearly three year old and an eight month old, and before babies my boobs were great! I was a c cup, and after babies I went down to a large a/small b cup. They disappeared!
Cheryl was fantastic. She answered all my questions so thoroughly, went through the type of implant Dr Lofts likes to use, showed me pictures of some before and afters of his patients and took down all my measurements. All this just saves time in my consultation with Dr Lofts. I met with Dr Lofts on the 6th of September for my consult. I felt so comfortable and co docent in his work, I didn’t bother booking a consult with any other surgeon. He’s so professional and I felt completely at ease. I didn’t know what size I wanted to go, so I was happy for him to choose what would look best on me. I figure he’s seen more boobs than most, so he would know! I tried on three sizers, a 300cc, a 320cc, and a 350cc. We decided the 350cc made me look a little top heavy as I’m very narrow through my hips, so we went with the 320cc. My surgery was booked for the 5 of December.

Surgery day, and post op day one and two
c.ravesDecember 6, 2017
My surgery day came around fairly quickly. I was admitted to St Marks Rd Surgical Centre at 7am by my lovely nurse. My measurements were taken (54kgs and 171cms) and then met my anaesthetist before Dr Lofts came in to mark me up before my surgery at 8am. I was back in my room, awake but drowsy by 10am. I felt quite dizzy and neauseous most of the day, but my nurse gave me a couple of doses of anti nausea medication throughout the day and I was very comfortable. My chest was wrapped up tight and I had two drains placed. I didn’t experience much pain at all and I managed to sleep most of the day. Dr Lofts came and spoke to me briefly about my surgery, everything went well, however he did perform a bit of liposuction on my left breast just to even them out. That was a bit unexpected, but I’m happy if they’re totally symmetrical! By 5pm I was feeling much better and ate some dinner, before taking more medication and I had a great nights sleep.
Day one post op Dr Lofts came back to check on me and remove the bandage. My left breast was quite bruised (to be expected after the lipo though) and they’re quite swollen (also to be expected). Overall he seemed quite happy. I was discharged at 10am and went home to rest. I’ve been taking my pain medication as prescribed and I haven’t experienced much pain at all really. My chest is a little bit achy, and there’s pressure on my sternum. It’s not unlike the feeling I had when my milk came in after I had my babies.
I’m up to day two post op and I struggled to get a decent sleep last night. It’s not pain that’s keeping me up, just sleeping on my back is a very unnatural position for me to sleep! I took a sleeping pill and did get a little sleep, but I’m tired today and so have been resting. My mum has been staying and helping me with the kids as I can’t lift my youngest for 7-10 days. The pain today is still only very minor, again it’s more pressure than pain. I also feel less swollen today, however my left breast is more swollen that the right, but Dr Lofts warned me that this may happen as a result of the liposuction. But overall I’m feeling good, just a little tired today!

Hey lovey, your results look amazing. Question how did you feel with your drains and then after?
January 13, 2018
thanks! do you mean in terms of pain? they weren’t painful at all when the were in, but I had really good pain relief on board. they weren’t uncomfortable or annoying. it wasn’t painful at all having them removed either. the following days it was a little tender where they had been, but only if I touched it. six weeks later, the area where the drains had been is where I am most tender (so if I lay on my side it can be a little uncomfortable) but my surgeons nurse told me there is a nerve that runs from your spine around that area and it can be a little sensitive after being moved to place the implants. so that may be why I get a little pain every now and then, but it should subside eventually. and when I say pain, it’s so minor I’m not bothered by it.

that’s good. Because my experience was awful hahaha. I’ve heard mixed things from people regarding them though. I had a revision on my right breast and they put in a drain. Wasn’t expecting what I’m feeling now because my first surgery I had almost no pain at all. My site is very tender now. thanks for letting me know though. :-)

oh that’s no good hun. if it’s really sore, may be worth getting in touch with your surgeon and they may be able to give you some insight as to why you’re experiencing pain there? hope it subsides soon for you anyway!

One week post op
c.ravesDecember 13, 2017
Can’t believe the new girls are a week old already! I stopped taking pain killers on Friday (3 days post op) and I haven’t felt much pain at all. I’ve also now finished my antibiotics and am back to being able to look after the kids on my own, with plenty of reminders to be gentle around mummy’s boobs!! I had my post op check with my surgeon yesterday and he is really happy with how I’m looking, although I still have a little bruising (from the lipo) and maybe a little swelling. My surgeon has said that I can get out of my surgical bra and buy some bras without an underwire- thank god!! The surgical bra is so hot and not very pretty, I wasn’t looking forward to wearing it 24/7 over Xmas and New Years! They will drop a bit in time, but even if they stay as they are now I’m so so happy! Dr Lofts and his team have been amazing!

Thanks so much for the pics! So helpful. I'm in NZ too, booked in mid feb with Chris Adams. I'm still dithering over size. I'm 5ft 3 and 53kgs. I chose motiva 285cc but am now worrying they will be too small. Don't want huge boobs, just enough to make it worth it. How are you feeling about the size you chose now?

so exciting! I’m loving them and am very lad that I didn’t go smaller. I guess it just depends on what kind of results you’re hoping for. I’ll post another update soon- I’ve been a bit slack over Xmas and New Years!

hi honey why did you take the antibiotics if u didn’t have an infection? was it precautionary measures? breast look amazing! did u get them insured as well, as this brand u can for option of two or five years..?
May 1, 2018
Hi, thank you! Yes the antibiotics were only precautionary. From what I understand that’s fairly standard. I didn’t get them insured- I didn’t know that you could! but to be honest, I don’t think I would have bothered insuring them anyway.
