1 week Post Op appointment and TIPS FOR ITCHING!!!!!!!!!
Had my one week post op appointment yesterday. So far all is healing as it should. Bruising is less and less apparent as the days go by but till very much present. Swelling is going down but I plan on swelling to stay around for a few months.
I no longer have to take ibuprofen. As I said in previous posts I never had pain to management. It’s primarily discomfort during the recovery process.
I was told that I have to wear the compression socks for one more week. The faha (I know it’s misspelled), white binder and foams must be worn for 5 more weeks (6 weeks total).
I won’t start using Biocorneum scar cream until the 4 week post op mark.
Was told to start massaging my midsection. Basically from the waist on up. Massage aggressively enough but not too harshly. This is to assist in the healing process and with lumps but also to prepare me for when I start SmoothShapes on Monday which will be 2 weeks post op.
As for the ITCHING!!!!!!!!!!! At times it is unbearable. I have used a fork for the hard to reach places. I know I know, that will only aggravate the skin but can’t help it. At times I have scratched using the Velcro part of the white binder and that feels like heaven!! Anyhow, I get it. There will always be itching during the healing process but I learned from watching a YouTube video that most of the intolerable itching is caused by the seams/grooves on the white binder. Mine has 3 seams/grooves. Funny thing is that as I was watching the YouTube video I was scratching at where the seams/grooves made contact with my skin.
To address this wear a shirt under the white binder. I chose to place face towels on the sides (obliques) where the white binder makes contact with my skin (makes contact on the sides because of the circle cut outs on the faha which expose my skin). Doing this has helped extremely with the itching ! Do I still itch? Yes, certain areas under the faha that never make contact with the white binder are problematic but now the little itching I still have to deal with is tolerable and doesn’t make me yell out like a mad man.

Post Op Days 4 through 6
Days 4 through 6 post op I feel things are getting better.
Still discomfort but no sharp pains. Because I only had drainage the first 2 days I no longer need the bed pads but I do wear a diaper to this day. Why? Well initially I needed it for drainage but I find I cannot wear my current selection of underwear. They are all smalls and mediums. Ummmm, nope. I tried. So for now I have my diaper so I don’t have the private part playing a game of peek a boo out the bottom of the faja.
Bruising looks the same.
Primary challenges as of late have been one thing... ITCHING!!!!
On day 6 post op I started taking Benadryl. This definitely helped with the itching and also allowed for a great nap. As I type this very moment it is 10:40pm Sunday April 28th and see it is a good time to take another Benadryl for the itching. Will likely have really good sleep tonight as well.

Post Op Days 1 through 3
Second and third days of post op I had no more drainage. This is strange because I assumed I would have drainage for closer to one week.
I still can’t say I have pain, just discomfort. On occasion I felt a sharp pain on my left and right abs (that would be the obliques). Read this is normal during the recovery process.
Primary challenges today are getting out of the bed. Pushing up and off the bed was the challenge, my triceps and deltoids aren’t what they used to be clearly. My abs are on fire too though but that’s a good thing.
What is also a challenge is sleeping. Not due to pain nor discomfort. It is due to only being able to sleep on my stomach. Then my arms being laid out to rest my head on... at times I had to put my arms to my side. It’s like because I’m limited in movement my body is needing to find creative ways to achieve any new movement or resting position.
Still only taking ibuprofen however I did take hydrocodone one night in an effort to get a good nights sleep.
