I’m Just Happy to Be Alive! But This Doctor Would Not Know or Care if I Was.

I spent a week in the hospital and was taken by ambulance after just 2 to 3 hours after being released from surgery. I could hardly move half of my body, Half of my face was dropping, I was in excruciating pain, and I had very little blood volume left. I was admitted immediately and started on blood. I also receive several CAT scans and MRIs as the doctors believe I had a stroke. A small mass was found in my brain and then it disappeared a couple hours after and the test came back inconclusive. The doctors told me they believe that I had a fat embolism go through my brain, as fat dissolves, and that I’m very lucky it was not my heart, as that would’ve killed me. After several days in the hospital not recovering, my kidney and liver function started to shut down. The doctors had to start over and work quickly to figure out what was wrong with me. I had rhabdomylosis, which is where your muscles break down and die within your body from extreme muscle trauma. These pieces of muscle were blocking up the blood flow to my organs and slowly killing them. On top of this I was bleeding internally and still had to receive blood transfusions on night six in the hospital. Dr. Mendieta did not check on me one time when I was in the hospital, not by phone or in person. I also never saw him one time at a follow up appointment. When they released me from the hospital I was in such bad shape still that they required around the clock home health care. Yet this man couldn’t take one minute to check on the nightmare he created. And the office refuses to give my medical records even though i have Requested them in writing and in person multiple times.

Botched left butt cheek
Chelsea WallaceDecember 21, 2021
After everything this is what I’m left with….. a butt cheek that has a large dent in the back of it. A nice little deformity that i did NOT have before. And yes, it’s visible in clothing.
Since I forgot to post this picture and this update requires 200 words, let me tell you about him and his staff…..
You will go in for your pre-op appointment the day before and wait. I think I waited 3 hours or more just in the waiting room. You’ll see the doctor for 5 minutes. Then right before surgery for 2 minutes to get marked up. While waiting for pre-op i saw multiple girls in bad pain, clothes with blood, and drains hanging from surgery the day before standing, waiting to be seen for over an hour as well. There is no area for post-op girls to get comfortable while waiting to be seen…. Which would be fine if they didn’t make them wait so long.
The nurses are pleasant before your surgery, they are very rude after. Multiple times when i went back for a follow-up to drain the fluid pocket that kept accumulating on my back i would be able to hear them talking about me. They nicknamed me the “hospital girl”, at least that’s what they called me behind my back. When they would come in they would be rough and rude. And constantly speak in Spanish so you can’t understand what they are saying. You are treated like a number here, and it’s all about the number of people he can get in and out. Don’t put your life in this doctors hands. It’s not worth the risk.

I'm so very sorry this happened to you. You're right, you are lucky to be alive. I've heard these places in Miami are like chop shops. Just be thankful you have your life! It could've gone very differently.

I'm so sorry that happened to you!
Thank you for posting this and helping other women re-think if they should go to him. I for sure wouldn't!

JUST WOW!!!OMG! I was looking into using him for my procedures- I am all about going to great doctors where ever they may be by not if it means risking my life. Thank you for being brave enough to share. However, You are beautiful regardless of his method or areas you believe do not look as good. This man who provided your procedure, have you spoke to the medical board in Florida who govern his license? To check and see if there are pending cases, claims like yours or a situation where you may be able to assist? Just an idea! Where there's a Will there's a way!

Hi Melanie. Let’s talk about his level of concern/ care. No phone calls, no emails, no anything from the doctor!! A week in the hospital. Blood transfusions still happening on night 6 from bleeding due to rhabdomyolysis. Maybe you should google what that is. Because it’s not a risk of this surgery. It caused my liver and kidneys both trauma. And my hospital bill was over $100,000.00. One of my butt cheeks has a huge dent in it. Visible with clothing! Y’all finally want to respond when it comes to reviews but not when it comes to patient care. Btw. I still Don’t have the records i requested in July. Since his team is so on top of things maybe you can make sure i finally receive them! Thanks Melanie!

Choose a different doctor
Chelsea WallaceFebruary 10, 2022
Just some updated pictures of why you should choose a different doctor…… pictures of my hospital bill and what my butt looks like in clothing. I have a large dent in my left butt cheek and no fat in the bottom of it leaving it with a large flat spot. His staff is finally responding, even reaching out but no real attempt to remedy the situation. Ladies this procedure is not worth it with this doctor. Join his groups on Facebook and Instagram and you will see that I’m not the only one. Do real research for yourself. Don’t be fooled by his previous work or previous standard of care.

This is why I canceled surgery with Dr. Mendieta. Too many patients are receiving blood transfusions for procedures that by medical standard do not usually require that much loss of blood. I was scheduled for an augmentation and tummy tuck with a normal blood count of 13 and his office called me back days before surgery to tell me he would not augment me because my blood was too low and it had to be at a higher number. I asked the girl where did my blood have to be in order to have both procedures done together safely and she said even if my blood was at 16 he would not do both procedures at the same time because I didn’t accept blood. This conversation happened a few months ago.. I got scared and made an appointment with Dr. Daniel Careaga who explained clearly that for these two procedures not a lot of blood is lost.. just for the augmentation it’s a teaspoon if even that. I canceled my surgery with Medieta and had my surgery with Dr. Daniel Careaga a week ago and I could not be happier with the care and results. During one of my massages my massage lady mentioned to me that she had another client who just had lipo a week ago with mendieta but looked as if he were dying. She thought he was going to end up in the hospital of how lifeless he looked. I believe he had what is called the “Adonis lipo” and also “needed” a blood transfusion. My massage lady has mentioned more clients who have had procedures with Dr. Medieta who have “needed” blood transfusions for tummy tucks and breast surgeries. There is something seriously wrong going on in that office. The coordinators see this but still pretend like nothing is going on. Not right! These are peoples lives your playing with!!!

This is horrible! The medical bill alone proves the type of service to expect. This should never have happened...and the result? How can this be otherwise explained?
