You Can Get Better Results Elsewhere for a Fraction of the Cost
I scheduled a consultation with Dr. Sejal Patel for liposuction and a Brazilian butt lift in December 2022. The $500 consultation fee later applied to the surgery, seemed reasonable given Beverly Hills standards. Dr. Patel's modern approach, despite his younger age, instilled confidence. I initially wanted a bunch of surgeries, but Dr. Patel played it safe, sticking to lipo and a BBL for safety reasons, which I respected. I also committed to shedding 40 pounds before surgery to give him the best canvas. He emphasized not working on individuals over 200 pounds for safety (which I met at the time of consultation). The $25,000 quote was steep, so I figured, why not pay a premium for what I hoped would be premium results?
Before my surgery, I checked online reviews and found someone mentioning uneven BBL results and recycled Instagram pics (repetitive showcase photos on Instagram). But I proceeded since my Deposit was paid & surgery set for September.
The day before my surgery, they called me, saying they needed to reschedule because one of their medical staff called out. Not exactly the premium experience I was hoping for, but things happen. I was understanding, and the surgery got rescheduled for the following day. Dr. Patel also suggested a $1000 blood transfusion for my high blood pressure, emphasizing better healing.
On the day of the surgery, I waited about 30 minutes, got directed to a room, and then Dr. Patel hit me with the "Can I record this?" question. I didn't love the idea, but I felt like I had to agree to avoid messing with the results.
Dr. Patel questioned a tummy tuck not previously discussed. "Why aren’t we doing a tummy tuck?" Not gonna lie, I didn't want one, and it wasn't on the menu during our consultation. Not the best vibe before surgery, and it annoyed me.
The surgery itself went well. No pain, just that post-anesthesia heaviness. Post-surgery, I noticed a lot of water retention, and my size shrunk significantly in the first few weeks due to fluids. Dr. Patel went conservative with the BBL, claiming he tried to give me hips, but they look slightly uneven.
Summing it up, I'm not 100% happy with the results, and I think I could've done better with a surgeon like Dr. Plazas in Columbia, my second choice. Full-body lipo with Dr. Plazas was around 6 grand compared to the 26 grand I paid Dr. Patel, plus an extra 10 grand for housing in California (I'm an East Coaster), and massages.
Notably, Dr. Patel doesn't recommend massages, an odd stance given their common inclusion in post-op care. Still, I went for them, and they helped with fluid retention. Also, he's all about corsets over Fajas, and that corset set me back another 200.
Follow-ups were a bit all over the place. The first was virtual via FaceTime, and the second was in the office. The post-op care instructions said the rest should be virtual at one and three months, but they didn't reach out to schedule them. Guess they figure as long as I'm alive with no complications, all's good. Or maybe my results weren't exactly what they were hoping for.
In hindsight, while the experience had its drawbacks, the overall outcome was acceptable, though not entirely meeting my high expectations. Total surgery cost $26k + $10,000 (housing & massages)
