Factor V Leiden Journey to BBL

Factor V Leiden Journey to BBL

** WARNING: Long Post Ahead **
I have the typical story as most of you, reading and researching on many surgeons for years (since 2012), however I am heterozygous for Factor V Leiden. I'm mainly writing this entry to provide a resource to other women who may have a genetic predisposition to blood clots, or maybe women who have clots/DVT/PE in their medical history. Even on this site, in the Q&A I see the typical response of "get a board certified surgeon to work with a hematologist" when anyone mentions Factor V, but I quickly found out it is definitely more complicated than that.....
I have considered a long list of surgeons, simply to have options, but also out of desperation because MANY surgeons have refused to operate on me. After hearing "no" a good number of times, I figured maybe having a hematologist to vouch that I am low risk for clots may change things. I then went to my first hematology visit ever (I have NEVER had clots before) and I asked if a BBL is even something I am able to pursue or if I should let it go because of my health condition.. She was VERY shocked to hear that so many surgeons were disqualifying me as a candidate for surgery..
Here is a list of ALL of the surgeons I have consulted with, who refused to operate one me, despite the fact that I had already been cleared for surgery by my hematologist....
Plazas.. no
Bello.. asked me what Factor V is... cancelled her..
Mota.. no
Yily.. no
Jhon Garcia.. no
Blinkski.. said my quote would be 30k+ for him operate on me in a hospital setting
Salama.. no
Dr. 6ix.. no
Dr. Skin.. no
Ghurani.. no
Dowbak.. no
Llorente.. no
Duran.. no
Mercedes.. no
Baez (female).. no
Robles.. no
Soto.. no
This has been a frustrating and discouraging journey thus far.. I thank them immensely for their honesty and consideration of my health and safety. However, I am a graduate student in Pharmaceutical Sciences and I know for a fact that heterozygous Factor V patients have the same risk for clots as someone who smokes cigarettes and someone who is on birth control.. but the same way I would not beg a hairstylist if she said she isn't confident that she is the one for me, I am not going to beg a surgeon to operate on me. I am going to take their word that it is "too risky" for them to perform the surgery and leave it at that.
As for the surgeons who have said Factor V is not that much of an issue, they all requested to see my clearance from my hematologist.....
Balgobin.. 10,990
Alvarez.. 6,000
Palladino.. 4,500
Cortes.. 11,543
Hsu.. 10,990
Franco.. 8,900
Dr. Curves.. 10,300 + 950 (upper back lipo)
Disla.. 3,800 but needs to see hematology clearance
Medina.. needs to see hematology clearance before quote.. quote is pending
Laurent.. needs to see hematology clearance before quote.. quote is pending
I will continue to narrow down that list with these factors as high priority:
1) Consistency
2) Delivery of Hips
3) Post-op Care/Bedside Manner
4) Communication
Stay tuned...

Hi I also have Factor V Leiden and would like to get a BBL. Did you ever get the surgery?
I did! I went to DR and had surgery with Dr Mora 4/8/19. Completely in love with my results.

It’s slim pickings for women with Factor V... Dr Mora made me take additional labs before I was cleared.. I appreciate that he allowed me to come and take the labs vs declining me without even running tests. All of my labs came back great, including the additional hematology labs and my surgery and recovery went smoothly.
What other tests did you have to get done? I got denied twice by plastic surgeon because of it even though my specialist cleared me. What do they do different for someone who has factor 5? Im so annoyed and don’t even want to mention it to another doctor.
This is such a helpful post thank you so much!
Is anyone who has gotten this surgery done with factor v able to DM me ? Or let me know exactly which dr they went to. I'm having a lot of issues...
You are god sent from heaven omg now I’m confident to get surgery without paying the 20000
Sooo it’s an additional thing to consider,, get tested for the prothrombin mutation. If you are heterozygous for both prothombin and factor v, you are high risk for clots… if you are only heterozygous for one of them, you are okay to use Lovenox/Enoxaparin injections for 14 days post op. My injections were done in my arms
Thank you I will keep that in mind. Is the Alvarez doctor you mention from Miami
Also do you know the instagram to the dr you went to
