Nearly Died Because of Their Neglect
Nearly Died Because of Their Neglect
My surgery was on Friday, Sep 24th. I had a preop appointment the day prior during which I didn't get much info and basically spent 3 hours filling out paperwork. They didn't even tell me what time my surgery would be the following day. I requested my coordinator call me multiple times and every time I called was told she would reach out to me in "5 minutes." She never did. I found out my surgery time via email somewhere between 9am and 5pm the next day and wasn't told till the day of it was at 1pm.
Next day, I arrived and got checked in, met my anesthesiologist, and got hooked up to an IV. I explained I'm prone to low blood pressure and that it was a big issue during my last surgery. He assured me they would keep me for observation after. My surgeon came in, explained what he was going to do, and informed me because I'm an extreme weight loss patient, my skin doesn't have the ability to snap back and I needed JPlasma in addition to the lipo. He informed me that without it I would be left with worse loose skin. A nurse came in and took my credit card and the doctor left only 10 mins after he came in. They also told me that because of my past surgery, I'd need to pay for a cell saver to protect against transfusions. All of this thrown at me less than 20 minutes before my surgery, despite having my medical records and preop appointments. An extra $2500. I'd already flown all that way, and invested so much...
Skip ahead. Waking up from anesthesia. No pain killers whatsoever. I went into shock, my full body shaking and convulsing. I was freezing & soaking wet. I didn't know it yet, but I was covered in blood. I was crying, asked for help in both English and Spanish. The nurses ignored me. After several minutes a nurse came over and told me "Be quiet. You're not the only patient here." She pulled me out of bed, put me in a wheelchair, and wheeled me out the door. My blood pressure was very low, I fainted trying to get into the car. They sent us on our way anyway, with prescriptions. It took two hours to get pain killers in my system. I could feel everything. Dry-heaving. I changed fajas but continued to bleed. I called to get help from avana and was told my coordinator would reach out, she did not.
This pattern of neglect continued. I will be filing complaints with the board of health, medicine, agency for Healthcare admin and plastic surgeons board.
